I've been going to Bert's since 2004 (exclusively), and have sent dozens of people over there - it is exceedingly difficult to find a decent mechanic who wont' rip you off, and even more difficult to find someone who talks and treats you with respect. I've taken my car there three times and told nothing was wrong, no charge (where else are you going to get that???). One (rare) time I took my car there and they put the left-sensor on, when the right sensor was the malfunctioning one - again, fixed no charge. Yes, a mechanic is going to be expensive, but taking your vehicle to someone disreputable is going to be even more expensive. Bert replaced my alternator which was the source of my battery dying twice in two weeks. Now the car runs fine. He also identified the source of my check oil light going on all the time although the oil was fine. Turns out it was a fried wire on the sensor. Bert's a straight shooter. Took the car in for a check engine light, told them the car was shaking during idle. They told me its the radiator which would cost $850 to fix? Really? I took it down the street and it was the engine mounts. Cost me $250 to fix. Either they just have outrageous pricing or they are don't know much about cars. read more

I took my car here for the NY Annual Inspection. The car was put on the lift and quickly, I was told that I needed a major front end repair and would not pass inspection. I told them to take the car down and I drove out of there. Who knows what else they would have "found" that needed "repair" had it continued. The mandatory inspection is an invitation for shops to lie, cheat and steal. I took my car to another shop where it passed Inspection with no problems. read more

I had to bring my dad's car to get inspected. Not only that they told me that they will need to change the light right away so it could pass but they also didn't tell me that they will charge me the inspection fee wven if it failed. So 70usd for just a broken light and failed inspection. read more

I stumbled upon Bert's 6 years ago as a recommendation of a shop who would accept engine oil to be recycled. I do my own work on my cars. I'm a nerd. I enjoy it. Having said that, this is the ONE shop with whom I've dealt in the 20+ years I've lived in Westchester that gave me total confidence if I didn't have the time or tools to do the job myself. Kyle is professional, honest, realistic (with their estimates and your time...when they are too busy, they will tell you so you don't sit there and wait forever) and most-important... really good at what he does. It spoke volumes that they had a 911 GT3 RS (997) on their alignment rack when I went the first time. They do the alignment work for Rennwerke Porsche around the corner. Good Afternoon, I dropped off my car because it was making a loud noise, and according to you, I received two quotes, which identified the problem as the catalytic converter needing to be changed, which resulted in two options, either go with Quote#1 Estimated cost of almost $5000.00 or Quote#2 Estimated cost of $3000.00- after picking up my car, and taking it to 3 other Professional mechanics, I was able to fix my car for $187.91 @ Meineke car care, the Hardware and gasket rear converter, Gasket spring kit and labor all included. None of the 3 other auto shops, I visited agreed with your quote and in fact were SHOCKED as I was that your shop is providing false quotes to your clients. The fact that I paid $96.00 due to your suppose "computer test" on my car, is a loss on my end. However, I wish you and your malicious company all the best, and I will pray for all your souls not to go to hell for being thieves and liars. Had a great experience. My car almost didn't start and I didn't know whether it was a battery or starter. Went to Bert's they were very busy, said to come back in an hour. Went back in an hour took a test of my battery and it failed. Replaced the battery within an hour and I was on my way. Seems like a great place. Kyle and the gang are consummate professionals. Kyle never steers you wrong and will give you a fair and honest estimate. I am a gear head and really care about my car, I do not trust anyone but me fixing my girl (2006 dodge magnum R/T), but for things I cannot do myself, I take to a professional. I came to them after going to the dealer being handed a $2000 estimate (I knew my car well enough to know that's an unreal estimate), I let Kyle and the crew know my situation, they took a look at it and said it only needed an $80 alignment. Rode like a dream after that. I am not saying that his shop is "cheap". They do good work and you will pay for the expertise. But they will not rip you off. Kyle is unbelievable in the things he knows about vehicles, but if he doesn't know, he will find out or send you to a reputable person who does. Your car will get fixed but i promise you that it will cost you an arm and a leg. If the parts are $1000 the labor will be equal. The most expensive mechanic around. The most expensive quote i got out of 4 top mechanics in westchester. Kyle is good but at his labor rates the service should include a prosthetic arm and leg to replace the ones they chop.
