Avoid this dentist.
Dr. John's condescending demeanor, and lack of humanity, wrongly diagnosed 3 patients in just one family. Happy we noticed red flags and went elsewhere.
My husband needed some work done 2 years ago when we were between insurance. This practice was highly rated online. He had dental work done and everything was good, liked them.
I recently made appointments for myself and my 20 year old daughter.
While we were waiting for our appointment day, my husband had tooth pain and went in for a visit. Dr. John recommended to pull all his teeth and put in full mouth implants, said his mouth wasn't worth saving. Yes, my husband had a lot of issues.
My experience - Dr. John says my teeth look great, and I only have one tiny cavity in the front of a back molar. When I returned to have the filling done, John says 'we will do a root canal/crown'. Shocked. He said there was a large old filling in the top of the tooth, needed to be redone and it was close to the nerve. I asked if we could try to save it and he said yes. He did the two fillings and then I left. Never had pain in my mouth until that filling. I returned three weeks later as he had asked me to come in at that time to "check" the filling.... weird. When his assistant took me back to the room, she prepared all the needles and things on the tray, which I thought was weird as well. I told him that I have had mild pain/discomfort since I left the filling appointment. But I said it doesn't feel like it's coming from that tooth, that it's coming from the floor of my mouth on that same side. He looked and said I had a canker sore. Keep an eye on the tooth and come back in a couple of months. I've had canker sores before, and this was no canker sore. From this day forward I had excruciating pain on the whole left side of my mouth/face. Because there have been several red flags I did not feel comfortable going back and sought out a new dentist. The new dentist said I had a Tory on the floor of my mouth from clenching/grinding at night I needed a mouthguard. Once I got the mouthguard, the pain subsided, except pain coming from the tooth that had the filling by Bertagnolli. I went back into the new dentist to have the filling redone. Once he got in there, he found that Bertagnolli had exposed the root chamber and part of the filling material had gone down in there and killed the tooth. This was why I had pain since having the filling done by Bertinelli. Did dentist John do this by accident and not notice... If so, that sure wouldn't be a good dentist. Or did he do this purposely so he could sell me a root canal and a crown? So I needed to have a root canal done because the tooth was dead. The other Dentist found that the infection in that tooth had been so bad it had blown out the bottom of the root and my jaw was full of infection. Remember... Never any pain in my mouth until Bertagnolli did the filling.
My daughter went in for her exam and was told she has two cavities. She's 20 and has never had a cavity before. When I return to have my filling done I asked him if she needed one appointment or two and he told me she actually has four cavities. Seriously- all the stories keep changing, another red flag. She went for a second opinion at as well, where he diagnosed her with one cavity and one place to watch.
My husband had a second opinion at the new dentist. He needs root canals with crowns for two teeth, and one implant. Not fun and not cheap but at least not the severity of pulling all of the teeth in your mouth.
Additionally, this is my first experience of not paying for a dental procedure when you leave... They said they would bill me after they hear from insurance. I got the bill four months later. This also seems shady.
At the end of the day, three of us in my immediate family all a bad experience with this dentist - with the changing of diagnosis/information. Upselling like a shady used car salesman. And months of pain for me. This dentist did not sit with us and talk through things, but always acted anxious give quick answers so he could leave the room- and always with a condescending attitude. Fast, fast, fast- whatever he can get done quickly (and sloppily) so he can move on to the next buck. read more
