NORTH FLORIDA K9 BEHAVIOR CENTER - Teddy

NORTH FLORIDA K9 BEHAVIOR CENTER

Having ourselves learned the through trial and error that "training the owner" is just as important…read moreas training the dog (after all, it's a symbiotic relationship), we've found John at NFK9BC to be an extremely valuable resource. For some months now, he's been working with us intermittently, one on one, as a personal dog-trainer / owner-coach for our lovable, 3 year old, female corgi mix. Otherwise super personal and well-behaved, our dog's major training issue has been extreme, dog-to-dog reactivity-aggression. Being a rescued animal originally found abandoned in the swamps of Suwannee, we quickly recognized her explosive reactivity was something akin to severe PTSD. But after over a year of spending thousands with various other trainers with whom she attended multiple board-&-train sessions and regular group classes, we saw no real practical improvement. Even John, in our first session, agreed our dog was among the most dog-reactive he'd ever encountered. However he was one of very few to really concur that her reactivity was likely a PTSD-like legacy of some early, underlying trauma needing to be addressed. So after only a few sessions working with John, we were encouraged to modify our own approach and try new techniques that soon started making a real difference. Now, at long last, we are able to take her to the dog park where she will interact and play appropriately with other dogs, with only a very briefly reactive, initial response. Our confidence is high that as we (dog & owners) continue receiving John's training-coaching, she will eventually be ready for her "good canine citizen" test. John is an excellent, special trainer because he's strong on positive reinforcement methods, really listens to his clients, offers practical techniques and tailors his coaching/training to clients' issues, needs and styles rather than simply taking a "do this-- it's what works for us--" approach. Strongly recommended!

Review, K9 Lifesaver Guy Beyond wonderful and a lifesaver…read more I cannot even put into words how much he helped me. I had taken in an abandoned dog, a pitbull mix, who was young but adult size and 56 pounds. He was not fixed so had scheduled him for neutering, but it would take some time. It was fine, I could not spend time with him because he was attracted to my leg, to take him out in the backyard was off could do. He was well behaved. However, the backyard neighbors have been away with their dogs in the head come back on a Saturday. Starting Saturday night, after being in the backyard when the other dogs were backyard, he started really hyper. And Sunday he just won't be berserk, he somehow got out of a closed door room, he had scratched the door had put a hole in the wall. He chased after my cats, and he was going on the tables and I just couldn't control him. I called different places, thinking I had to get rid of them right away for my cats. It was a Sunday night so I had no luck. Until I called North Florida K9 Behavior Center and luckily, he answered the phone. He was a godsend. He calmed me down because I was hysterical. Gave me great information about neutering and what to expect after you neuters. He also gave me a lot of great psychological canine behavior, tips and information explain so much he helped me get a plan together, which I was too hysterical otherwise to have done without him. It set a plan to put Teddy in the garage with the cage, and to keep him away from the cats, meaning I would take him directly from the garage, the backyard and not to the house. he called me down enough to realize that the neutering process would help a lot, and that it was OK to keep him in the garage for now for his safety safety of my cats and my sanity. I literally don't know what I would have done without him. Teddy is still waiting neutering so after Teddy has that procedure, and finishes his vaccine boosters, our plan to call him again. You can't go wrong with a person who's so understanding, so calm, know so much about any more behavior and psychology, someone who takes the time out of their off time to help deal with a hysterical person, which she did not have to do. I highly recommend his services.

If your going to charge that much for a board and train program the dogs should be trained well. Not just mediocre. They only do things that benefit them not their clients. The trainers are abusive to their own animals so I can only Imagine how they treat clients. And people still bring their fur pups to them. . If you just want to give money away look no further. Their is a reason they moved out if Gainesville to another county. Word of mouth is brutal.

After a brief exchange I received a very judgmental reply from the owner about priorities. So, I rated her business 1-star on Facebook for her significant lack of customer service skills with no commentary. She was so offended at my 1-star rating that she called me out on Facebook claiming I was being unreasonable and asking for free dog training. I've uploaded screen shots from that to the business' pictures, feel free to look at them yourself. I'm now rating her 1-star on Yelp for her significant lack of customer service skills as well as completely unprofessional behavior.

Seriously! I have everything wonderful to say about this breeder! I have had dogs my entire life…read more Recently our mixed breed dog passed and we were heartbroken. I did know that this time at 59 years old, I needed to know the size and temperament of our next dog. Hoping grandchildren would be in our future, along with traveling, for size. I was a dog Walker a few years back and so I knew a Golden doodle would be a great choice for us. They are bouncy, happy dogs. So the next concern is that we have cats. While looking at Dawns fb page, I saw she has her pups interact with children and also cats!! This was perfect! I contacted Dawn and left my deposit. I was going to wait 8 weeks for a light colored litter but something about this girl pup posted was calling me. She was ready to go home so we chose our girl. At 9 weeks old Kailani was already partially trained! She came home, loving our cats, crate trained, and slept through the entire night! Yes I know these dogs are smart, but let me say this and this is the MOST IMPORTANT PART of my review! This puppy didn't want to leave Dawn, the breeder!! This might sound sad to some, but to me, it meant she was so well loved and was given the utmost attention! That's so key!! She knew nothing but love! Dawn sent us home with a bag full of food, toys, and even bowls. And even a "lovey" from her litter mates. Seriously, I have a feeling we will be back for another someday. If not for us, for our daughter! Kailani has helped to heal our broken hearts but Dawn has made this the most wonderful experience bringing a puppy home stress free!

The best temperament, no shedding, rarely barks, loyal, smart, playful and she's SO SOFT! :) The meeting to get her was a little stressful.
