Lox and cream cheese sandwich served with dry potatoes
Alison M.

Here in a Saturday morning for breakfast. Parking lot and road side parking was packed. Luckily we found a spot not too far from the doorway. Entered through the cafe door and got in line with the others waiting for a table. 10:30a and the place is humming. After a 20 minute wait our booth table was ready. In the mood for their Lox and cream cheese sandwich. Hubby had the plate with it all, choosing a pancake instead of French Toast. Cup of coffee while we waited. In a cast post surgery and conscious about where I place it, I found resting in my other foot better then in the floor where I could see trash under the table. Being a busy morning understandable however the encrusted splatters on the wall, napkin holder, and condiments were another thing. See attached pictures. Food was great, service wonderful including the nice young lady busing the tables and greeting folks while the waitress diligently takes care of her guests. Recommend doing once over with a cleaning rag to the items on the table when cleaning the table for the next people.

I was happily surprised with Bernie's Foreside. It's half bagel shop and half diner--I had been to the bagel side a couple of times recently, since they started serving bagels from Union Bagel. It's somewhat of a cottage decor on the diner side, the original art work is a nice touch. There were quite a few parties waiting to be seated when I arrived, just after 9:30, but my friend had already been seated so I'm not sure what the wait time was like. Our waitress took our order right away. Service was attentive, our food was served fairly quickly, and she came by and refilled my friend's bottomless cup of coffee several times. The menu was standard diner fare: pancakes, eggs, breakfast sandwiches, etc. The Yogurt Delight I ordered came with fresh fruit that included strawberries, sliced oranges, bananas, and blueberries and vanilla Chobani yogurt, which is gelatin free. It also came with a generous portion of granola and toast. It really exceeded what I expected for a diner. There is plenty of parking as they are located on Route 1, in the front of the big box store. Noteworthy, they close at noon on Saturday. Overall, a positive experience and I would recommend Bernie's if you're looking for a solid, no nonsense breakfast at a place with great service and plenty of parking.

I had brunch here on a saturday. Such nice waitresses and the food was very good. The vegetable homefries with cheese are amazing. Lots of choices. Get there early as the bagels will sell out!

Such a great find. 1st time for a business meeting. Everyone is so nice. Staff so friendly and the menu is great. Seems like a local place but plenty of seating if you don't sit at the counter. Worth the visit. Easy to get to and plenty of parking

Stopped here for breakfast the other day and it was quite busy. We had to wait about 15 mins for a seat. The service was friendly. Classic diner food but the prices were a little high in my opinion. They do make their bagels from scratch. I got a breakfast sandwhich on their everything bagel and it was okay but I was expecting more for homemade. They have a connecting side that you can order takeout if you don't want to wait. Overall decent breakfast place, expect a wait if you come on a Saturday or Sunday.

Very busy little spot!! I went on the recommendation of my parents! My mother said it was a must try! She said the hollandaise is so good you want to literally lick your plate clean! She was very accurate with this information! When we arrived we were seated very promptly, within 10 min they had a line of patron waiting to be seated. The waitstaff was friendly. The food was cooked beautifully and served promptly. Look forward to our return!

Highly rated brunch for a good reason. Cute interior, a small outdoor patio if you want outdoor seating, and a collection of diner-like foods and pastries to delight you on a Sunday morning. Came to fuel up before a long day of hiking and my chocolate chip pancake, home fries, and eggs were just how I liked em'. Their egg scramble and omelets looked good as well, with good, quick service and comfortable booths for sitting. Poached egg was just cooked well but a little watery.

Usually a good fare, but not today. The wrap was a little stale and coleslaw was over done with mayo!

Good, greasy diner food - the fries were fresh and nicely caramelized. Service was helpful and friendly. Decent, especially for the price.

Love this place. Great chowders, great fish and chips, great club sandwiches, no complaints except more beer choices would be a plus!

TLDR: be prepared to wait!…read more It was pouring rain outside and the place was packed when I went during Memorial Day weekend. The line was very long and, as the restaurant interior footprint isn't big, we were all crammed uncomfortably along the front wall with waitstaff and patrons weaving around us. It took about an hour to be seated. Once seated, the food was excellent. My favorite was the crispy red bliss potatoes in which everything was cooked perfectly in flavor (for cilantro lovers!) and texture. The petite pastrami biscuits are delicious but very rich: best for sharing! Lastly, the orange creamsicle soda was well crafted and not too sweet. Bread and Friends is worth the visit, especially if it's not too busy or you don't mind a wait.

We walked in at 11am and it was quite busy on a Sunday morning... go figure... hahaha! Turns out early October in Maine is busy... us tourists want to see the pretty fall colors. Anyways... it seemed like a mix of tourists and locals. The dining area was quite busy, but the bartender said we could sit at the bar so that's what we did. AND... we could order from her so Bonus! We didn't have to wait in the long line to put in our order. We got the french toast sticks and the lemon fruit bowl and a couple lattes. All of it was Yummy! The French Toast sticks were made with Brioche bread which as you know if probably the best bread to make french toast with. The lemon fruit bowl came with this amazing lemon curd and housemade granole. I don't normally order this type of breakfast... I'm more an omelet person but I wasn't feeling it today (travel makes my system and cravings all off.) So, I was super surprised with how good this was and how it was so satisfying. Well... that and the latte with the caffeine and sugar boost. Located just inside the Canopy Hotel... easy to find.

It was a scrumptious combo and I thought the bagel itself was a very good bagel. Each addition is a bit pricey - $4.50 each for the egg and turkey bacon, for example. In general for their own specialty bagels or for a combo of three things you make yourself, you're looking at a $15+ bagel. However, said bagel also comes with an enjoyable ambiance. It's a bit indie/cutesie/intentionally lighthearted but very enjoyable. There are window seats to look out on to the street and a whole separate large room of tables that would make for a good place to get some work done if that is the goal. There is sweet gift section with the Russ & Daughters story/cookbook, t shirts, and clever hand-designed cards. The service was hit or miss - one employee was very attentive, another seemed annoyed to have to serve customers (although in a NYC deli, after which this place appears to take its inspiration, a little grinchiness perhaps makes the experience more authentic). All around, a few small negatives, but I really enjoyed my bagel and its surroundings, so five stars. UPDATE - I went back a second time and got basically the same thing minus the turkey bacon ie a bagel with cream cheese and an egg, and an iced coffee. Came out to about $15. I think their prices are just unreasonably high unfortunately and the egg the second time around fell flat.

Someone's online order didn't go through, and they were very quick to fix it and make up the time to get this customer out the door. Nice staff, the chairs and tables appear to be made locally, the place was small, but lots of seating, bathrooms were clean and it appeared that you could walk in the front or the back.
