We stumbled upon this outstanding bagel place simply by getting a bit lost. What a reward!!! The bagels are absolutely outstanding!! They have the perfect crunch and texture. The wraps are huge so come with an appetite. The service is extremely quick and all the employees are very kind. The ambiance is relaxed with local art and guitars on the walls. This is a must stop for anyone visiting Portland. We will be back!!!

I was debating between 3 and 4 stars, but considering this is a local place in Maine, let's go with 4! We went in the morning for a quick breakfast and they were busy, but nothing outrageous. We ordered two of the bagel lux and a coffee, and it took forever to get our food. Our "quick" breakfast wasn't as quick anymore. I actually had to go inside the store (we ate outdoors) once to check if they had give my order to someone else. The bagel itself was delicious and the amount of salmon was very generous. We also liked how spacious they were inside, and that they had outdoor seating. I would definitely go back.

TIPS: on a Friday morning when the local breakfast restaurants have a 40 minute this is a go to PROS: No wait, 3 options for coffee, good organic coffee, fast service, plenty of seating CONS: No everything bagel, average bagel breakfast sandwich After finding out Bayside American Cafe and Hot Suppa both had 40 minute wait we decided to walk to Mister Bagel. The atmosphere is perfect for a bagel shop, however they were playing hip hop music pretty loud on a Friday morning. I was disappointed they didn't have an everything bagel, so I went with sesame instead. We ended up ordering sausage, egg, and Swiss cheese on a sesame bagel with two coffees. The sandwich bagel was pretty average and the bagel was rather small. Nothing special about it. However, I really like their Wicked Joe regular coffee. I tried the Wicked Joe dark roast and it was too bold for me. My stomach is content and I did not have to wait 40 minutes.

My friend and I casually dropped into mister bagel looking for a quick breakfast option. Oddly enough I lived in Portland for 4 years and never stepped foot in a mister bagel so I thought, why not. We were greeted as we walked in which was nice. I ordered a ham and swiss panini and grabbed a vitamin water from the beverage fridge. We grabbed a booth for 2 and waited a fair amount of time. I honestly felt like it was 10minutes for the paninis ugh and I was so hungry! One of the gentlemen brought us our sandwiches and we ordered them "for here" but they came in to go bags so I'm not sure if that's how they come? The sandwiches do come with a bag of chips which I didn't realize, score! I had a bite of my sandwich and realized I was eating my friends sandwich Haha! I was able to try hers which had nice curry chicken flavors but I wanted my ham and swiss! The panini had an awesome crunch, nicely portioned amount of ham, tomato and swiss. It was exactly what I wanted. I thought it was interesting they used 3 slices of bread for the sandwich, it made it more filling. I enjoyed it!

It was a scrumptious combo and I thought the bagel itself was a very good bagel. Each addition is a bit pricey - $4.50 each for the egg and turkey bacon, for example. In general for their own specialty bagels or for a combo of three things you make yourself, you're looking at a $15+ bagel. However, said bagel also comes with an enjoyable ambiance. It's a bit indie/cutesie/intentionally lighthearted but very enjoyable. There are window seats to look out on to the street and a whole separate large room of tables that would make for a good place to get some work done if that is the goal. There is sweet gift section with the Russ & Daughters story/cookbook, t shirts, and clever hand-designed cards. The service was hit or miss - one employee was very attentive, another seemed annoyed to have to serve customers (although in a NYC deli, after which this place appears to take its inspiration, a little grinchiness perhaps makes the experience more authentic). All around, a few small negatives, but I really enjoyed my bagel and its surroundings, so five stars.

Despite the line moving quickly the wait for our order did take significantly longer including many who ordered after us receiving food and drinks quicker. I think we would take advantage of online ordering next time! Both drinks were tasty and bagel breakfast sandwich was tasty. My wife loved the cream cheese but wished the bagel was not as tough. Holy Donut opened their first Portland location back in 2012, and they now have five locations around the state, including this DT location which is probably their busiest. The Good: *Vegan & Gluten-free offerings--but they're not synonymous! Check the fine print or ask. *Coast-to-Coast shopping options, including vending machines (we saw some at PWM). *Online ordering available for pickup. Tbh this is probably the way to get them, as you can skip the line and go straight to the back at the pickup window and just get your stuff right quick. You're welcome. *Donuts are made daily from scratch and feature seasonal and limited flavors. The Meh: *You'll most likely have to pay for parking at this DT location. *You'll also most likely encounter a large line to order from, depending on the time of day. When we walked by earlier before lunch it was HUGE, but after lunch it was down to manageable ±10 people ifo of us, and it did move pretty quick, as well. I mean, it is just donuts ffs. It shouldn't take you more than a few minutes to decide. The Ugly: *Pricing is a bit obscene at ±$5/ea, but it's to be expected in a extremely popular area full of tourists and cruises. *Take this with a grain of salt, as I'm very particular about donuts in general, but I found them to be very heavy and just OK. Also, the flavors could've been punchier, as I found the taste a little too muted for my liking. Conclusion: Definitely not worth a long wait or the price imo, but if you're in the area, the line is short, and you have $5 burning a hole in your pocket then I say go for it. Because, evidently, I'm in the minority judging by the popularity and reviews. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
