We recently moved to a new home in Middlefield, and about 4 weeks in, we had a backup of water in the basement, so I called the previous owners plumber. The plumber, advised me to call Bernie first! So I did. He picked up right away and was able to come out and snake the pipeline from the house to the septic tank. In doing so, he also noticed a potential problem with the pipeline, and recommended a camera view. So, he set up for the next day to do some camera work. He called before arrival, and showed up on time with a proper diagnosis! Turns out the pipeline to the tank is badly rotted and will need to be replaced, and the backup was due to that the line wasn't clearing properly, and debris was getting snagged on the pipe. I had a clogged sewer issue. I called Bernie in the evening and he was at my house at 12 noon the next day. He was very professional and in my opinion just as important he was very nice. He called the city for me and had them come out to see if the problem was mine or the city. The problem was in my lateral line. Bernie spent the next few hours clearing out my extremely clogged line. We had a drain problem on a Sunday morning at our son's house in Glastonbury; everything was overflowing into the basement with each use of water. We called Bernie and got his answering machine. The message said that Bernie would return the call within 10 minutes. "Sure", I thought to myself, cynically. Well, sure enough, Bernie did not return the call in 10 minutes; he returned it in 2 minutes! And, although we were a couple towns away, he came out to the house within an hour. Everything was backing up into the house. I knew it was the main drain somewhere out in the yard. I called my plumber of 10 years and he recommended Bernie. It was 7:30 pm. Bernie came to try and unclog my basement utility sink drain. He snaked the line 75 feet. He discovered it drains into a dry well and wasn't clogged... Just that the well won't accept any more water. Most plumbers would charge you a base fee just coming to look at it and the labor. Despite his best efforts, Bernie couldn't help me, so he said no charge. A quality professional. read more
