First, I scoffed at the idea of paying €16 (Yay! Found the keys for Euro signs!) for a cheesecake. Or to specify, a *mini* cheesecake. It was my only day in the so-called "arts" district, so I figured all the fancy presentation on these goods would have the flavor to back them up. I ordered the plain cake because the other option was Oreo (lol that's trashy for an expensive place), and grinned with delight as it was put in a box AND then a decorated bag, like I'd just gone shopping for something that would last more than five minutes. It was delicious, with a very hard, dry consistency that was not very sweet. A bit on the tart side, indicating they are liberal with the sour cream, while conservative with the sugar. Definitely a great base for a more complex cake, but even though simple is good, the flavor just wasn't appealing enough for me to give it a full five stars. If you want a taste that's a bit more complex, totally go for the cupcakes. Especially tiramisu! read more

If you're an American abroad craving cheesecake then this is the place to go! Their cheesecake was absolutely delicious and rich. I'm picky with my cheesecake since I know that Jr. Cheesecake in NY has the best cheesecake and although Berko's cheesecake can't top Jr.'s it is still very good. They have original cheesecake and other variations which is great. The cupcakes are good too but as an American I found them tiny and expensive! They are a bit dry compared to American cupcakes but good nevertheless. They have a bunch of flavors so you can let your taste buds go wild in here. I chose the speculoos cheesecake as it was the most appealing to me as I arrived a bit late in the afternoon and some options had already been sold out. By far this was the sweetest slice of cheesecake I've had. The filling was rich and creamy, the taste of cinnamon and caramel kept building up until about halfway through where I needed to take a break and sip on my coffee. It was just too sweet and I had yet to touch the frosting topping and cookie. After a bit of water I continued. I managed to finesse a piece of cookie, a sliver of frosting and a bit of cheesecake all onto one pile on my fork resulting in a rush of pleasure as I began to devour it. I haven't found a lot of places that do cupcakes (I guess this is very American?) but hands down they do some great flavors. My favorite is the Dexter. I haven't tried their cheesecake yet, though they do look very good, but definitely make sure you show up early. Great location - perfect pit stop when spending a day in the Marais. It's the cutest place! I haven't tried the cheesecake yet but I bought an assortment of little cupcakes (I had been fiening for cupcakes for MONTHS). They're very pretty and really quite good - I love their French spin on cupcakes (like "caramel beurre sale"). I found the cake to be a little dry but hey, the place is cute, trendy, the staff is super friendly and I got my cupcake fix. What more could I ask for? The only reason that this place got 4 stars instead of 5 is that they changed their lunch set menu. Yeah, now, I can't get a yummy salad and a yummy tarte salee. You only can get one or the other with either soup, side, salad, or chips :( with a cupcake That being said, you can still sub in the cheesecake for the cupcake, and the tart sales are still to die for (the salads are pretty good, too) so I still love this place. It is a great place to get your lunch to go. I say to go because seating is extremely limited. I am not usually a huge fan of cheesecake, but I LOVE Berko's cheesecake. They have the most amazing flavors, too. I have tried Oreo, citron vert, banofee, Speculoos, caramel buerre sale, pistache-fraise, dark chocolate, noissette, nature avec fruit rouge... and I think that is it. The flavors change. You can't always guarantee they will have your favorite, which is why I am glad that I have a few favorites :)... Banofee, pistache-fraise, caramel buerre sale, and noisette, in case you are wondering. I have only had the cupcake once, and it was good. I like their cheesecakes better, though. And the staff... they are friendly! I usually get at least two smiles from them when I go. They also speak English, in case you don't speak French. my boyfriend and i were staying near here on a recent visit to paris - we will be staying even nearer here on a future visit to paris in october with my beautiful mama in tow. she is a sweet tooth fiend - anything cake, she is into. with this in mind, i decided i needed to try out these little beauties to make sure that they would be up to my mum's standards (hey, what can i say? i'm a pretty great daughter!) we shared a nutella cupcake and a berries cupcake - both were absolutely delicious - not too sweet, and the icing was perfect - flavourful without the intense sugar hit you get with so many cupcakes. they were also mini in size, which is perfect for a little indulgent treat without going overboard! next time we might venture into the second half of the shop to try the cheesecake! read more

It's not a matter of "heavy" frosting like someone else said, I mean have you ever had a magnolias cupcake (not the best but a very decent cuppy that many are aware of). The problem here is just lack if cuppy skill. The butter cream frosting wasn't very good and the flavors just fell flat. So if I am so disappointed in their cuppies why then 3??? Well..... I love this little cupcake shop on Rambuteau! The presentation is awesome (there are Dexter cupcakes with a little vial in them), and they make a great gift- always a hit! I also tried the goat cheese, spinach and sesame quiche and it was quite nice, not the best quiche I've ever had but pretty good for a quick stand up bite. I would say the frosting is 5 stars and the cupcake is 4... Still great though! I found a new favorite place for banana cream at Berko. It beats Magnolia, my longtime favorite place for banana cream pie. Their cupcakes are also heavenly. The frosting and the mousse fillings are fluffy and just right amount of sweetness. There is limited seating and sometimes long line, but we were not disappointed on our half dozen visits. What a disappointment! These guys are so rude and condescending they are giving the french a bad name! Ordered a cake from them and they didn't check the delivery and messed up the order, it wasn't the right cake and they weren't at all apologetic! They were real aggressive and blamed it entirely on the cooks and tried to have us settle for it. You should know the pastries are baked off site, and dont expect anybody to be pleasant in there. No treat at all. There s so many good bakeries in Paris...PASS this one! read more
