Hands down the best bread in Paris (get the Pichard bread). Great owners. I often think about the pain au chocolat aux amandes - a delectable morning treat that will keep you full - and happy - until lunch time.

Butter Croissant (best I've EVER) had!

My mom raised me to be a character in a Jane Austen novel, and so I'm embarrassed by public display of emotion - especially if someone catches me in the act. I don't think I've been more mortified at what my facial expression may have looked like, than seeing a girl sitting on a table in front of me laugh and cover her face after I'd had my first bite of Pichard's butter croissant. Great croissants are rare - even in a city like Paris. Some bakeries pursue them for bragging rights, or cultural heritage, but croissants are not one of their more profitable products. Everyone knows that. And so, a number of bakeries just go through the motions. Look, I am, like Galileo, willing to pay the ultimate price to stand behind my assertion that there's no better bakery in the world than Pierre Herme, but do they make great croissants? Heck no! Sure, you can look up the bakeries that win the annual prize for best croissants, but as years go by, I see that the selections are increasing from bakeries farther away from Central Paris. It's ridiculous that Boulangerie Pichard has only 40 odd reviews. I expect that's because it's not located in Tourist Central and so has far fewer reviews than any top bakery in 1st or 6th Arrondissements. I've eaten here at 8 am, at 10 am, at 11:30 am, and I might have waited a few minutes for a fresh batch to be brought in - but, it inevitably is. The day the girl laughed at my face, I went back and got two more... for immediate consumption. There's no point in even describing the flakiness, chewiness, shatter effect, swirls and swirls of dough, the golden sheen, the taste of butter - it was pure perfection. Absolute, pure perfection. The best of many excellent croissants I had during my visits to twenty different boulangeries and patisseries... best of the best. (If you're looking for something more than the butter croissant, the Chausson aux Pommes is pretty wonderful. The crust and sheen was sublime) Pichard also has a phenomenal baguette/ficelle. Exceptionally well-priced at 1 Euro. There's a separate counter and a separate line for it. There's always a line. People can see the exceptional value. So, next time you're in Paris, and you still have on your bucket list the desire to eat the best croissant of your life - your safest bet is to come here. Just be sure to wait (no more than 10-15 minutes on a weekend) for a fresh batch.

We came specifically for the croissants on our visit March. Unfortunately we came here after visiting Blé Sucré earlier in the day, which had the best croissant and was a lot to live up to. Boulangerie Pichard is a bit out of the way in relation to other places we were visiting, though the reviews were so great, we had to try it out. Though the croissants were not as amazing as our earlier stop, they were still delicious. I will need to visit again (such as on my upcoming December trip) to make more specific notes.

    How they pack pastries!

Overall (5/5) - The staff is very nice, service is quick, prices are very reasonable, and the food is both fresh and delicious. The croissants are one of the best I've had in Paris (I found Des Gateaux et du Pain to be better) and their pastries are great. I highly recommend the souflee crepe. _______________________________ Wait (5/5) - There's usually a line but orders are quick and it moves fast. Ambience (5/5) - Feels just like a bakery so don't expect anything else. Service (5/5) - The staff is nice and courteous. Knowing some basic French for your order will help but they spoke some English. Food (5/5) - I had their croissants multiple times during my short stay in Paris. They were always fresh in the morning (still warm!) and I wish I could go back. I tried two of the pastries as well: the soufflé crepe and a raspberry cake. Based on that, I don't think you can really go wrong with any of their selection. Price (5/5) - Very, very reasonable prices. It doesn't get much better than 1 euro for a croissant, especially considering the quality and taste.

This was my 4th croissant! So tasty

If you are in Paris, Pichard is probably one of the few places where you will enjoy a REAL croissant! Their plain croissant is so simple yet heavenly tasty! Believe me, your taste buds will thank you for every bite.

BEST CROISSANT EVER. Don't let the dark exterior fool you, this croissant reaches the perfect balance between crispy/flaky and soft.

This bakery is AMAZING, literally one of the best in the world. I first stumbled upon it during my very first morning in Paris back in 2014. I saw a line out the door and figured it must be good! Sure enough, the croissant and baguette I tried were simply the best I've eaten in my life. The croissant reaches a perfect balance of crispy/flaky on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. You simply can't find perfection like this in many places. When I recently went back to Paris, I decided I had to try this place again even though it was very far from where I was staying. After trying MANY croissants throughout Paris, Montpellier, and Nice, I wanted to see if this one lived up to my memory from 2 years ago. IT DID!! Croissants are my favorite food in the world, so take it from me, the self-proclaimed expert. This place beats out all the rankings. I don't know why it's not as famous as some other places in Paris, (maybe because it's in a quieter neighborhood?) but it's truly phenomenal. I will say the baguette was not quite as delicious during my more recent visit, but seriously who cares... The croissant is heaven on earth.

The store is gorgeous and will immediately catch your eye, I knew I had to come see what was going on in here. I crossed over and walked in to find the most delightful le merveilleux. I ordered 3 minis which I trekked all over town for the day and later enjoyed for in the evening. They were delish! My advice would be don't trek all over town with them, enjoy them or store them to enjoy later. They were great but they are fairly delicate. These treats are super light and the perfect little treats. The mini size is perfect to enjoy several flavors. I'm a Los Angeles native and while many may say they haven't seen or heard of these le merveilleux before, we have a little French bakery at home called Le Mervetty that I've ordered cakes from and they make these. They are truly special, I've always felt that. If you're looking for a lovely treat, definitely stop in. Service was quick and friendly!

I got the sampler of 6 merengues in a cute box but I only got to try 3 as I shared the rest with our house host. My fave was the Magnifique - meringue coated in pralines. So light and airy as with the rest. The Merveilleux - chocolate was a bit too sweet for my taste what with the layers n layers of chocolate. I am not a fan of white chocolate so I did not like the Incroyable - white chocolate with speculoos. The shop have different branches in Paris as well as the train stations but we went to the one by the Moulin Rouge. It is right smack in the center of the street you wouldn't miss it with its very opulent chandelier hanging by the window. They make and bake their pastries on site as with each and every patisserie in Paris it seems. So everything is freshly baked!

A Slice of Heaven at Notre Pâtisserie, Paris!…read more My visit to Notre Pâtisserie was nothing short of magical-this charming Parisian gem exceeded all my expectations with its flawless pastries and warm, inviting ambiance. The Tarte au citron meringuée was an absolute revelation: the crisp, buttery crust cradled a velvety lemon filling that struck the perfect balance between tangy and sweet, finished with a delicate torched meringue topping. Pure sunshine on a plate! Their legendary Opera Cake is a masterclass in precision-layers of almond sponge, coffee buttercream, and dark chocolate ganache harmonize into an elegant, rich symphony of flavors. Each bite was sheer perfection. I fell in love with their Orange Brioche Buns, too-pillowy soft dough swirled with fragrant orange zest and a hint of caramelized sweetness. Paired with coffee, it was morning bliss. And of course, their Croissant? The gold standard. Shatteringly crisp exterior giving way to airy, honeycombed layers with that unmistakable French butter aroma. Worth waking up early for!
