When you press your button, it always takes at least 30 minutes before someone responds. Sometimes an hour. I've learned to buy meal bars and keep them around for emergencies. This is certainly not the first time this happened. This place is extremely understaffed. Today, the aide told me I'm on a list of 5 people who got no lunch. When I came here 2 years ago, I was horrified to find out the aides also have to serve meals and pick up trays. So we NEVER get good service. Whoever runs this place is an idiot. The other day, when several aides called in to say they were not coming in because of the heavy snow, they put 2 brand-new aides working together on the WORST hall. The blind leading the blind.... Many patients here have dementia. I'm here because of severe arthritis. It gets kinda lonely if you meet somebody and have a nice conversation, but the next day they just give you a blank stare. I wouldn't recommend this place to ANYONE!

She is awful and her practices are highly questionable and suspicious. Staff - aids, nurses - is pretty good. A few of them are amazing. One unprofessional member I encountered also tried to administer the wrong medication to my loved one. Aid/nurse to patient ratio is average during the day. But at night...woefully understaffed. Administrator thinks she is overstaffed. Her staff, I gathered, would disagree. And as an onlooker, I strongly disagree. One night i encountered three patients (not counting those help lights patients had on) looking for assistance and there was no one there at either end. No nurse, no aid...not in the hallway, not at the nurses station and not in any room to be found. They were probably in the memory unit - people call in and they have to cover multiple units. Unbelievable. During the day, there is all this hustle and bustle. State visits, I hear they put on quite a show to give the false impression things are good. Fairly clean. Food looks so-so. All the pictures of activities is a stretch. I'll say too that the monthly activity event might be nice (I doubt it) but what matters is the care. And, you won't get that. There is evidently a doctor that visits two or three times a week (they can't be sure if it's two or three) at 4AM. Yes, 4AM when everyone is asleep. And, I spent night and day there when the doctor was supposed to be there and ... no doctor. An occasional PA or NP but no doctor. Don't be fooled and don't do it!

Nursing homes are never a fun place to go, in my opinion. I have never liked going to them since I…read morewas a child because they just exude so much sadness, and "the end is near" resonates in my head as I cross over into that threshold. When I heard the news that my grandpa was being transferred to this nursing home from the hospital my heart sank. I didn't wan to go. Hospitals are bad enough, but nursing homes...ugh. Not to get too much into my personal life, but my grandpa is there because he needs to have physical therapy after a mini stroke. I honestly didn't know nursing homes offered such services, and I decided to go and see what this was all about. As I pulled into the parking lot of the nursing home, my stomach knotted up and my heart started to beat a little faster. Old images of preconceived ideas shot up as old memories thrust themselves forward and I was dreading it. I gathered my wits, and walked into the lobby. The receptionist must be used to the regulars that come in because she didn't offer to help me, and didn't require me to sign in. I asked her where to go, and she gave me a vague idea after I walked through the double doors. Once I walked in to the main section, I have to admit I was a bit surprised. The halls were well lit, and ironic as it sounds, the place didn't smell of the traditional nursing homes that I remember from the past. There were some people sitting in the halls, but the majority of them were smiling and seemed happy, and well taken care of. When I got down to the physical therapy section to see my grandpa, I was surprised to see a chorus going, and the halls were swelling with beautiful and happy voices singing songs that I'm sure invoked many memories of youth. In the physical therapy ward I was even more pleased when I saw the staff and how they treated the people. They knew each one by name, and treated them all with kid gloves, while still being encouraging enough to get them to do their therapy. It made me feel so much better, and I'm so glad that I actually went down there to see this place. The people weren't just wandering around looking lost, and every chair and bed had an alarm on it in case that resident got up or fell at any time. When it comes to nursing homes, this one definitely seems to be high on the list and has definitely changed my stereotypical view of these places. Keep up the great work Tri-County Extended Care, and thank you for putting me a little more at ease.
