I have been going to BAP for almost 2.5 years and it has been nothing less than a life saver. Before coming here, I had never done acupuncture before and I was really nervous that it would be painful. It turned out to be amazing for my physical and mental well-being. I started out attending multiple times a week, now I go once a week or every two weeks for sustaining my health. I have seen many acupuncturists at BAP but once I found Julia, she is the only person I see now. It's not that other acupuncturists are bad, but in my experience, Julia's level of skill is unparalleled. She is so kind, empathetic, and nurturing, I can't recommend her highly enough. I have sent numerous friends to her and now they also see her regularly for a range of issues. If you go and feel mixed about your experience, try a different acupuncturist until you find a person who works well for you. I have successfully used BAP for depression, pain (including back pain), anxiety, mood swings, PMS/PMDD/menstrual regulation, migraine headaches, carpal tunnel, sleep, and tapering off of medication. They are sliding scale and extremely affordable because having it in a community setting helps keep the prices down. When I first started coming to BAP, I was on disability and paid $15/session. BAP is one of the services that helped me get healthy enough to get a job again, and now I can pay higher on the sliding scale. When I first came, I was also nervous about the "community" aspect of it - getting treatment in front of other people sounded really terrifying. Now I actually like it much more than the thought of being alone in a room. BAP is very cozy with soothing music playing and warm lighting. You sit in a comfy chair with blankets and pillows and most people are relaxing or sleeping during their treatments. The majority of people fall asleep during their treatments: I usually do not, but when I do fall asleep, I awake with the most peaceful, happy, rested feeling. You can stay in your chair for as long as you like, I usually stay for 30-40 minutes. I have also started using various herbs that Julia has recommended to supplement my treatment - they have them there and I can pick them up after my session. BAP is walkable from Downtown Berkeley BART. They have an easy system to set-up appointments online. Although some people experience immediate results, don't expect them on your first visit. It can take a few sessions to start experiencing help on acute issues.

    Can acupuncture help with GERD?

Hi, thanks for asking. Yes, acupuncture can help with the symptoms of GERD. Like any system of medicine (including pharmaceuticals), acupuncture is not a cure-all and is most successful when used at the recommended "dosage". When someone comes to… Read more

I suffer from Restless Leg Syndrome. Has anyone experienced relief through acupuncture at your clinic? If so, is there someone there I should make an appointment with who's more experienced with treating RLS?

The studio is a very calming place to walk into, and Deanna was very warm and put me at ease. I really appreciate the calmness there, and always looked forward to my sessions. She was extremely knowledgable and competent in forging a plan for me to help in each stage of the IVF process. I felt in very safe hands, and though I don't really know how the magic of acupuncture works, it made all the difference for me. I got pregnant, and have had a very comfortable, mobile, sane, easy experience that I am so grateful to have had given the high risks of my pregnancy. I am now a week away from delivering my baby, and would recommend Tao to anyone struggling with health or fertility issues.

The approach to talking about my injury was "accessible" to my "western medicine" upbringing. And most importantly: my third visit was like turning the switch off for my pain. I probably had a pinched nerve in my neck, but due to delays seeing a pain specialist through my primary care, I was trying anything. I ultimately was seeing a "western medicine" doctor and Tao to Wellness at the same time. But the timing of my pain shutting off is strongly suggestive that acupuncture played a big part in shortening the duration (which my "western medicine" pain specialist had suggested would be possible). Deanna was my acupuncturist.

They are a healer that's very passionate about the various modalities of Chinese medicine including acupuncture. In fact, our first session was mostly a qigong session. I had to experience it to believe that I could actually feel them moving qi against me without actually physically touching me, and afterwards I was able to confirm that what I sensed (eyes closed) was what they were doing. It was totally wild. Besides their skills and knowledge, Tank is just such a good listener. I love the first part of our sessions because they really ask good questions and are completely present for the conversation. I can tell they really want to know the whole context to help a person. One thing that Tank is especially good at is being sensitive to sensitive people. I get cold easily and am sensitive to noise, and every time they get the ultra-crinkly mylar blanket to warm me up (it's very light so it doesn't disturb the needles, but also super noisy), they put it on me with exquisite care to ensure the noise isn't detracting from the experience. That is just how they do things - with exquisite care. Highly recommend going to see Tank for holistic care through the lens of Chinese medicine!

Tank really listens to you and answers questions holistically, giving great advice on how to remedy via sleep, diet, or other everyday means in a very approachable manner. It had been many years since I came to Living Tree, but tank was just as warm and welcoming. This time, I came in for some acid reflux/ food poisoning symptoms that had been persisting daily for me for over a month. I felt like I had a lump in my throat and didn't have an appetite. 2 days after treatment here, the lump feeling was finally gone and I gained an appetite again! I came for another follow up treatment to continue healing, and felt so much better after that as well. The treatment overall is very relaxing and I love that it actually truly helps my healing. Thank you tank!
