Nov 2024, came here on Sunday for "Ladies Night." I remember when Ladies Night meant women drink for free at the bar or get in free. But, OMG! What a blast. I could not believe all the women who were online waiting to get in. As soon as you entered the store they handed each of us a "goodie bag" with lots of useful stuff. Besides getting 20% off full price items that night, they had wine, shrimp cocktail, Pin Wheel Roll Ups with cheese and turkey, a plater of cheese and crackers, Veggies, and cookies for your sweet tooth. They raffled off a gift basket the next day and my friend won the basket. Inside the basket there were plenty of nice items. Honestly, this is a great way to bring in business because I saw lots of shopping carts full with items people were purchasing. My freezer broke on Saturday night (the day before Easter). I emptied it and brought the contents to my son's house. By Easter Sunday, the refrigerator also stopped running. Instead of looking for a mechanic, we decided to purchase a new one. I'm a firm believer in supporting neighborhood family owned businesses. I looked online and headed for Berger Appliance in Hawthorne, NY. David was the sales representative who helped us. He was knowledgeable, courteous, friendly, helpful and very patient. He helped us pick out a refrigerator that suited our needs. This was the day after Easter. 2 days later we had our new refrigerator 2 hours earlier then promised. This was the best experience I've EVER had purchasing and actually receiving it in such a timely fashion. Not only was David on point but so were the delivery/installers. They even helped me clean up AND took the old refrigerator with them. By the way, that was part of the deal. No extra fees involved and their price was as EXCELLENT. no need dealing with a chain whilst we have a Gem in Berger Appliance. They had so much to choose from and they're in business for 90 years. I have been using these folks for the last 38 years. They are old fashioned in that they believe in customer service. This past December I purchased a new washer to replace the one they sold me 27 years ago. The other day I saw a water leak. They sent someone to take a look. The problem was a missing washer. I had one, he replac3d it and alls well. a few years ago the refrigerator died. Called Berger and they sent a replacement immediately. Also took out the old one, no time to shop around. A few weeks later I dropped by Best Buy. Same refrigerator for a few dollars more. So without driving myself crazy I got the best price and terrific service. You just can't find this type of service or professionalism at a big box store or all the new places opening up read more

From the 40 year old linoleum flooring, the beat up cabinets, the discolored and broken ceiling tiles and the large displays of cobwebs I wouldn't buy an appliance anywhere else. Any appliance I've purchased in the last 15 years has been from Berger. I have bought countless standup freezers for my business, every appliance in my kitchen, washers and dryer's all from them. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful, the prices are always great and I always have a great experience with the delivery. If you're looking for some fancy shop for some sales guy to pitch stuff on you that you don't need and this is not the place for you. If you want good service, good pricing and good quality products this is the place to go. read more

I dislike public shaming but would like to save anyone who reads this a headache. We just did a full renovation and went to Berger, spending over 18 K on appliances. Overall this place is nice up front but has Atrocious, lazy customer service. After they charged our credit card the ball was dropped entirely. Our appliances were delivered and their were issues with no follow up on their behalf. We were told the handle of the fridge came on a chosen side but it arrived on the "factory" side, and we were uninformed until they told us we were going to have to pay extra for the handle to be switched. Our fridge was then left sitting in the middle of our kitchen for 5 days. I had to make multiple phone calls to track down our salesperson, While the problem did get resolved by Thermador -- guess what, no follow up from Berger! I'd never go here again. read more

The staff provides detailed information about the appliances that you looking for and they don't push you to buy anything. I had a disaster experience with a national retailer wasting 2 days waiting for delivery and many hours on hold trying to get status updates for a dishwasher that never showed up. Went to Berger one the recommendation of a friend and was in and out in less than 30 minutes with the same dishwasher at a better price. Delivery and installation was arranged by them through Welker Plumbing who were excellent. Courteous and prompt! Could not be happier with the whole experience with Berger and Welker. read more

I just received my appliances and as I expected the delivery and installation were superb. The deiivery was done with the utmost ease and the installation was performed without any questions to me as they seemed to know exactly what they were doing. Never again. My husband and his family have purchased appliances from Berger's for years. We purchased an air conditioner from them more than several years ago with no issues. We even had a 3 a/c delivery that year because my sister needed two and lives next door. In May we purchased the same a/c for our bedroom that we have in the living room only with a smaller BTU. From the beginning the unit made noises. I asked my husband several times to please call them after it started to gurgle. The unit sounds like water is swishing around in it and it's an unbearable noise. At first the water gurgling was intermittent and I had read on the internet it could be freeon issues or that the unit was installed incorrectly and not pitched right. This is a unit that goes inside a sleeve in our wall, not the window kind, so it was not inexpensive. The sound is deafening and I have to wear ear plugs now which of course makes it extremely difficult to hear my alarm go off for work! We have called Berger's three times over the last 2 week period and each time my husband has been met with opposition. At first call they told him to call the manufacturer? Excuse me, you sold us the unit and it's defective. My husband asked them to call and we were told a representative would call us. As I said we've made three calls to Bergers and no one has contacted us. I am beyond peeved and will not only no longer buy from them but I will also advise my family and friends not to buy from them. Very poor customer service, all the needed to do was sent someone out to hear the unit and then replace it. We are not a first time customer but we are certainly a LAST TIME ONE! read more

In truth, I have never been to the Berger Appliance but when we had DunRite Appliance Repair at our house to repair our electric clothes dryer, they told us we would be better off not repairing the dryer because of the age and condition of the appliance. We asked who they would recommend and they suggested Berger Appliance without hesitation. After some initial and terribly bad experience trying to buy a dryer at a nearby by PC Richards, my wife decided to call Larry at Berger and Larry was more than ready to match the price that PC Richards quoted. We purchased the dryer over the phone. When Edwin and Gary came to install the dryer we found them professional and knowledgeable about all my questions we had regarding the machine and the installation of it. The installation and carting off of the old dryer were free. I highly recommend Berger and I thank DunRite Applicance Repair for setting us in the right direction. I definitely will go back to Berger in the future! read more

Did a complete kitchen renovation after 25 years. We purchased a complete Thermador kitchen set w/a wine cooler. Had gone to a large chain store and was not happy with the experience at all. That was good because we found Berger. Nice showroom to compare products. Jim was very knowledgeable and spent a tremendous amount of time with us explaining pros and cons of what we were looking for. Berger was more than competitive and a pleasure to do business with. read more

I am in the middle of a terrible experience with this store. I went in to buy. washer/dryer 3 weeks ago and chose a set on showroom floor that was not in stock. Salesman showed me photos of a set which was "the same just larger capacity," which I then purchased. Upon delivery I found out it was 2" higher and $60 more for each machine- two important facts the salesman neglected to mention. I complained and they agreed to swap machines to original ones I chose once they came in to their warehouse. Then I was told only washer available, dryer unspecified wait time. A week later, the washer was delivered WITH the dryer (which apparently was another customer's order). Two days later, I went to pull a sheet out of the washer and the center agitator pole piece came up with it. In 50 years of owning appliances, I've never seen anything like that. You could hear a loose screw shaking around somehow in the cylinder. I called store to complain and they offered to call GE service -which was unacceptable to me on a brand-new machine. Now they are saying they are willing to swap it once another machine comes into their warehouse in a few weeks, but they will not take back the dryer. This is an unreasonable, unacceptable solution, since I need a W/D set. Lacking their cooperation, I am now disputing the charge with my credit card company. First they deliver a set whose specs I was unaware of. Second they deliver a machine meant for another customer. Third, that machine is defective. Three strikes, you're out. UPDATE: Owner has just agreed to take back machines and give full credit. While I commend him on his courtesy, I can't honestly recommend this store now, since the overall experience was not good. read more

Went on the recommendation of multiple friends who have used Berger's and I was not disappointed. I needed a dishwasher and went in to the store clueless. Bill helped me out and I felt in control of the purchase the entire time. I ended up purchasing 2 air conditioners as well. I especially appreciate that they remove your old pieces for no additional cost. Prices are reasonable and staff is knowledgeable. Will definitely be back for future appliance purchases. read more

Another great experience with Berger Appliance! We needed to replace an oven/microwave unit, and Berger Appliance was able to suggest a unit that would be appropriate for our existing cutout. Berger's installer was excellent--he found a piece of metal that matched the new appliance unit beautifully, which saved us from having to customize a piece of wood to match our existing cabinetry. read more

DO NOT PURCHASE APPLIANCES FROM THIS DEALER - the response you will get when the unit is faulty is: "my hands are tied.."

It got worse. After 3 visits from GE service they admitted the unit was bad. It started making a real loud howl at 1 a.m. I recorded the howl 3 times and played it for the GE service technician. He had to admit it should not howl and ordered a new circuit board. It showed up a few days later. After he installed the new board the every day noise problem and the howling went away. NOW I like this refrigerator. The original one shipped to me WAS defective. read more

My wife an I are first-time home owners, (apartment dwellers most of our life). We knew nothing about laundry appliances, except that we had some very special needs regarding the size of machines. The guys at the big-box stores were little help, but the guys at Berger were spot-on. They went out of their way to insure we had the best price, and delivery and installation were quick! Much, much more important to my wife and I was level of service we received afterwards. We had some minor issues, though easy enough for anybody else to fix themselves (i.e. slow drip from one hose), were addressed immediately by the guys at Berger. You are NOT going to get anywhere near this level of knowledge, professionalism and service at a bog box store. Berger is certainly going to be our first (and only) stop when we need large appliances. read more

After about a year of waiting for a new Bosch super silient plus 38dba dishwasher (covid, supply lines, et al delays), replacing one whose pump went on the fritz last Thankgiving, i have to say it was well worth the wait. Larry at BP was the best, keeping us informed every few weeks on where we were on the waiting list as the back log was cleared up. Icing on the cake were the two lads from Daniel Welker Plumbing in Thornwood who did the installation. Watched our dark stain wood floors while removing and installing the new one. Found that the old one (which we also purchased from Berger) was installed like crap (it was installed by our GC's plumber when we renovated our home) and this new one fits like a glove ... well worth the wait and in time for this year's Thanksgiving. My friend recomened Berger appliances. Jimmy listened to what I wanted and in no time had printed pictures of everything I asked for. Jimmy organized everything for me, it was so easy. What I was most impressed by, was delivery and installation. Everything went so stress free. The delivery men, plumber and stove installation men, were all there at the right time. I just bought a new refrigerator from them. I wouldn't say my sales person was the most friendly but he answered all of my questions and treated me with respect. Wanting to check the price I was quoted from them and found that theirs was the best price (free delivery and removal of old fridge.) I called in my order on a Tuesday and received my item on Friday. Great white glove delivery service. Would recommend. And for those looking for high end appliances (Viking, Thermador and Wolfe, etc.) they have them. read more

I am disappointed to be writing this review, after being a loyal customer for over 25 years, buying major appliances for my Westchester home and also my NYC condo. My wife and I went to the store to buy a replacement for our high-end Miele dishwasher. The guy who approached us immediately started telling us what we should and shouldn't buy, instead of hearing and answering our questions and helping us figure out what we wanted and needed. "Buy the basic machine, that's all you need . . . I have the top-of-the-line at home but you don't need that." When I asked him to please answer our questions and help us decide what we want, he said, "You're talking to the owner of the store." As if that entitled him to be rude to us. I told him that we had been frequent customers for 25 years, and instead of responding to me politely, he said, indignantly, "I've been here for 46 years." When I asked if we should shop elsewhere, he turned and said yes as he walked away from us. I never raised my voice or spoke impolitely to him, and he seemed intent on losing a good sale and long-time customer. In that, he succeeded. Go elsewhere, it's not worth it to put up with being treated in this manner. read more

We needed a new dryer. Their prices were essentially the same as Home Depot and the delivered and installed (it needed to be hardwired) the new dryer and took away the old one for free. Also appreciated the fact that they did not push us to upgrade, but were happy to sell us a good, functional, economical Whirlpool. read more

I have purchase stackable washer&dryer a year ago at Berger's. I needed something compact that is why I choose this particular brand. The salesman never mentioned two types of dryers made by manufacturer (vented and condensation). By omitting this information he sold me the worst dryer ever. So, beware of the salespeople at Berger's, they will withhold information to sell you a lemon. Initially, they installed the washer and dryer so they would open in two different direction one to the left, the other to the right. This was a hazard to us. The machines were not even balanced, I felt shaking on the third floor under my feet whenever I was doing loundry in basement. I paid for the installation, so after countless phone calls three Berger's installers came to inform me that the door cannot be changed ( the manufacturer had instructions how to in manual) and I am imagining the shaking of the floor upstairs. After complaining to maufacturer and Berger's manager again they finally fixed the doors, now they both open in the same direction. They attempted to better balance machines, but it took the manufacturer's technician to properly do that. The dryer was leaking - water was dripping from the vent, from the first time I used it. The dryer broke down within one year of light use (three loads of laundry per week). It needed the sensor and pump changed. I will not go to Berger again. read more

Be careful what you buy. We bought GE Profile Appliances from Berger as part of a remodel 6 years ago on the reccomendation of the sales rep. Price was good and delivery great. The problem is that after the 5 year warrenties expired the stove has required repair and the refigerator is dead (after a previous $300 repair). After a great initial impression our opinion of the store has fallen dramatically. Support from Berger now consists of telling us to call GE. Good place to go but know what you want. read more
