I really do enjoy the variety of plants, both garden and indoor. The prices are comparable, and this was my go-to happy escape for plant shopping when I didn't feel like traveling to NYBG. However, this review is based on the customer experience. While browsing the plants near the register, I--and everyone else nearby--heard an older employee behind the register speaking disrespectfully to a younger employee. I understand that there may be context behind the situation; however, it should not have been handled in that manner or in that setting. This appeared to be a conversation about a lack of performance, and it was addressed poorly. The volume and the words spoken were distasteful and off-putting. If that young employee were my child, I would be very upset by the way they were spoken to. Please, Rosedale, get your business in order. The appeal of a whimsical nursery went out the door for me, and I don't see myself returning for a long while, if ever. The energy of the place felt toxic. Mind you, after witnessing this, I still went outside and browsed before coming back in to make my purchase--and the belittling was still going on. This is not a place I want to be. read more

Terrible customer service. Theres a man at the counter who is very rude and miserable, I asked him for help, he did not even acknowledge me. So I went around and asked another person. A few minutes later, same guy comes back to yell at me for asking another employee when he's already "helping" me. It was bizarre, psychotic behavior. The man who was helping me apologized for his coworker's behavior. He's known for miserable behavior it turns out. Anyway, there is no way I'm buying garden stuff here ever again. Note to the owner...you have employees who turn away business because it seems to empower them. Rosedale is a great nursery. I always make a stop by there after visiting the garden center at Home Depot. Rosedale has an incredibly wide selection of plants and shrubs, many varieties and cultivars not available at the big box stores. They are pricey (about 30% more) and you can wait for end of season sales for some good finds. Their staff is helpful once in a while. I know some customers do not like their gruff style, but they are inundated with shoppers on weekends during a short shopping window. read more

Had plants that were supposedly "deer resistant" on the package, and in less that 24 hours of buying product, the flowers were gone. Rosedale would not even consider giving us a break. We literally asked for deer resistant plants and had them for 2 days. Not customer friendly at all. read more

We asked someone working in case we missed it and they were kind of standoffish and didn't really help. Have been helped every time I asked, including one time last week when one obviously VERY busy woman (who I believe to be a horticulturalist) walked us clear across the property to help us find a particular dogwood we were searching for. Great nursery! First of all, it's beautiful. Beyond that, they have a great selection and have been helpful with questions/recommendations. It does get crowded some weekends, but I feel like that's unavoidable with the way planting works. I don't come here as often as I should- but when I do, I appreciate how Rosedale's concept just flows. The place is just sprawling. Off Saw Mill River Rd, you'll notice their shared entrance/exit, angle parking lot right after, several pergolas and tons of evergreen shrubs. And in between all that lushness, there are garden fountains adding a soothing sound as you shop around. Their indoor garden shop is also in this area- where they have everything from seeds to garden tools to countryish-looking garden accessories. As if that's not enough... Rosedale places stone and wooden benches for sale- including antique-looking metal garden table sets- that are unique and funked out (for me at least)! I've shopped (and still do for plants) at Home Depot- to fill in the gaps in my garden at a fraction of the cost-but they don't got what these folks have. Rosedale actually keeps the guessing away. Their lineup includes plants and flowers by category: "Shaded Plants", "Full Sun Plants", "Partial Sun", plus a section for 'Ornamental Grass'. Seriously... variety is endless. Price? Well... you get what you pay for. And you'll see a little dent in your pocket compared to Home Depot. But selection here- is amazing. Service? All smiles back and forth! Maybe it's BS to some- but even if you don't have a green thumb, Rosedale is your ideal nursery......in these parts. I've walked away with an excellent selection. And I know when I come here, I can stock my garden in a single stop- plus every square inch of my backyard, walkway and the side of my house- with no problem. read more

Since this MDW is looking a little (ok a lot) different this year, I wanted to try to make the most of it by visiting local businesses and catching up on a few things. One thing I had been meaning to do was add some more plant life to my apartment, so I decided to make that top priority for this weekend. I had heard great things about Rosedale Nursery from family and colleagues, so I decided to take a little drive to Hawthorne and check it out. Rosedale Nurseries is located right off Route 9A; partly because of its suburban location, the nursery is huge. Per their website, they specialize not only in small residential landscapes, but larger estate and commercial-sized projects. Walking around, there was a large variety of trees, shrubs, annuals, vegetables, and gardening supplies. There's really a lot to see and you can easily spend a good chunk of time browsing all they have to offer. Most of the plants are outside, though there is a nursery center which hold gardening supplies and a selection of small house plants and succulents. I ended up picking up a couple of small bushes for my windowsill as well as a medium, floor-sized plant. I didn't interact too much with the staff, though I felt the woman who rang me up could have been a little friendlier - like at least say hello and tell me what my total is before asking me to insert my credit card. Overall, I had a good first experience at Rosedale Nurseries. I don't have a green thumb by any means, but from what I saw I would totally return for more plants. read more

Supervise the cashier at checkout! I have been to Rosedale 3x already this spring and all three times they overcharged me at the register. Each time it was a different cashier. I'm willing to forgive an honest mistake, but from now on, I don't care how many people are in line, I will make sure the prices are rung up correctly as they scan it in. This place gets very crowded and they ring up very quickly. If you are buying multiples at the same price point, the error quickly adds up. Do yourself a favor and take time to supervise as they scan, or doublecheck the receipt before you leave. read more

Good selections (albeit very pricey compared to other places) and knowledgeable staff, but don't plan on returning anything if it does not work out because they will not entertain any return at all although their receipt misleadingly suggests there is an exchange/return policy. It applies only to "manufactured" products. So, any plant that does not make it, is not their responsibility. We spent thousands and they would not even engage in a polite discussion about the issue. Horrible customer service. Will not be going back. Any business should at least engage in a discussion with the customer. Buyer beware. read more

It is hard not to love Rosedale's environment and beautiful display of a great variety of plants. Some staff members are helpful and kind, while others clearly hate people. I particularly love the message that they give customers at 5:20pm to signal that they are closing in ten minutes. They simply turn on all of the sprinklers to soak everyone. I think that if they paired it with a message over the speaker like "Get the hell out" it would complete the experience of shopping there. Worth the suffering for our pretty trees :) read more

Bought this hydrangea after talking with one of the Rosedale employees. Told him and showed him a picture of the location. I followed the instructions he gave me for planting and care. It gradually died about a week later. Went back today and asked for an exchange for a new one. They said it was only guaranteed if they planted it. Goes to show they don't back the products they sell. What's the difference if they plant it or I do? I followed their instructions to the letter and this is what happened. Wow. The worst customer service ever. The staff is literally miserable! I came on to yelp to see what others had to say and it seems common place for Rosedale to treat customers with such a lack of interest and respect. We even asked for a manager and he would not accommodate us whatsoever! Well, first the salesperson lied and said he's on the phone and then when we insisted- radioed him. This place was extremely rude. I will never go back. They lost a customer that would have brought them tons of business as I'm doing work and landscaping at my home. Unpleasant, even rude, sales staff. No one is ever available to answer questions or to offer advice. Be sure to do your own research before going there. The landscaping department is especially hard to work with. Peremptory visits to my home were not followed up with proposals/estimates for work, and when i patiently waited several months (a couple of different times) and then called for follow-up work, i was emphatically told that I had received estimates that I never received and of being a bad customer for not hiring Rosedale to undertake work that they never proposed! This is no way to treat customers who have been supporting Rosedale - pre-pandemic - for many, many, years. They have so much demand now, they apparently think it is okay to treat such customers as expendable. In addition, their prices have always been too high, even pre-pandemic. In my experience, the plants are usually healthy. However, moving forward, I will go to the nursery where Rosedale buys its plants and have found local landscapers who are far more knowledgeable, thoughtful and pleasant people to work with. read more

I assume that most people that frequent Rosedale Nurseries aren't arborists. They're just common homeowners who want to beautify their landscapes. Nevertheless, the employees that work at Rosedale seem completely oblivious to the fact that most of us don't spend our days learning about, and knowing about, trees. Because every single time you ask a question, they look at you as though you've made an insanely idiotic comment and fail to provide any insight one would expect from landscaping experts. My conclusion is that these guys actually (a) know nothing about trees/plants, (b) don't like working there or (c) sell so much in this current market that they have no interest in engaging the customer. What a gorgeous nursery!!! This place came highly reviewed by several of my friends and they didn't tell me anything other than outside the staff is friendly. I read several of the reviews and the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the staff (no all) were very rude. I came in during the week with my two children because I know the weekends are very busy and I thought maybe I could get some help but whenever I asked a question it was as if it was totally ridiculous and why would we be able to help you. Customer service is a huge part of any business and this place needs some work. I love this place and have been going for over three decades. It's an adult toy store for the avid and novice gardeners. Great selection of healthy plants, excellent service all around. Don't skimp on prices with Home Depot plants- you get what you pay for when you're buying live merchandise. Great service, posh surroundings, healthy plants and trees - it's the best anywhere! Tis the season! For the past four years, we've gotten our Christmas tree from Rosedale and been quite satisfied with all their Christmas trees. Today my family got our tree and I was impressed by the selection. The service was quick and easy when it came to getting the tree we wanted. Of course getting it trimmed and the staff getting it on the roof of your car is a plus too. Only thing I didn't like was the price, but their trees have lasted a long time every time we got it from Rosedale, so I suppose it is worth it. read more

They have such a variety of plants, trees, herbs, flowers...you name it they have it. The layout makes it easy to navigate and the staff is friendly. I started visiting Rosedale after visiting a terrible nursery nearby and the local Home Depot. First, rolling into Rosedale feels like you are entering a botanical garden. Their inventory is sublime. The management and staff are equally stellar. With their expert advice I was able to create a wonderfully zen rock garden for my home with light and moisture appropriate trees, bushes, shrubs, and grasses. Freshly planted they are thriving and I am confident they will stand the test or time. I was also pleasantly surprised at how reasonably priced everything was compared to the other locations I mentioned, especially Home Depot! I can't recommend Rosedale any stronger!!! read more

If I am paying $75 for a six foot Christmas tree that I will throw out in a month, I expect them to be pleasant when I pay for it. Plus the tree stunk of smoke from the fire they had burning, which we noticed only after we got it in the house. It stopped taking water the second day and we won't be able to keep it up as long as usual. Not pleased. I miss Green Valley. read more

I called ahead of time to make sure they had the tree that I wanted to pick up. Unfortunately, when I got to the nursery, I experienced the worst customer support of my life. The staff is horribly rude. I asked about 5 different staff members to help me find a plant (which they had told me on the phone was in stock), all of them refused and told me to go "look over there" and couldn't be bothered. When I still couldn't find it, the staff told me too bad. They also seem to have zero interest in plants or flowers. Finally, after asking to talk with the manager, someone who seemed to be in charge got on his golf cart and went to the back to find the plant I wanted. Will never be returning to this nursery.
