The family had been on a mission to eat at every restaurant in Lyndhurst and Bergen Dragon ended up being the very last Chinese take-out joint on the list. Just a stone's throw from Oriental Garden - Bergen Dragon is the smaller, less flashy (and semi-hidden) of the two. (This part of town is always pretty hectic so it's nice that Bergen Dragon has a parking lot available that they share with Carvel.) We've given them three attempts now and... they're a solid 3-stars. For every hit (wonton soup) there's a miss (chow fun... bland and boring). One of my kids complained his chicken fried rice had more onion than chicken. The other kid kept joking that his chicken-and-broccoli had so much sauce it should count as a soup. Pricing is good. Crew behind the counter are cool. It's take-out only. (They have a makeshift curtain blocking some of the store - not sure if maybe they had a few tables before COVID decided to ruin everything.) Not 'bad' at all but not a place I'd recommend, either. Tasty Fusion - still the best in town. (Although their "Inflation Fee" they add to every order is ridiculous.) read more

Am I the only one that loves Egg Foo Young?? My wife suggested we get Chinese food tonight, so there was no resistance here. There is still curb side pickup only here. Our dinner was ready fast as usual and the girl is always polite. Those that don't know, I got the chicken egg foo young, which is basically an egg pancake. Comes with some pork fried rice and an egg roll. Now here's where the hiccup comes into play..... It comes with the brown gravy you pour over it. I don't know what it isand I don't want to know what it is but it's awesome. Last night that's not what I got. I got a sauce that was very soy sauce based and nothing like what I always get. Did it change?? Did the make a mistake in what sauce they gave me?? I hope it's the latter because the sauce is what makes this dish complete! Bergen Dragon delivers both literally and figuratively. This Chinese food is not your run of the mill dive, but a proper hole in the wall. What they lack in interior decorating upkeep, they more than make up for in food quality. The food is fresh and made from scratch. You can even taste hints of fresh ginger in their homemade sauces. In the seemingly never-ending search for my local Chinese takeout, I ended up at Bergen Dragon on a recommendation. While I'd say it was possibly the best of the small, local places I've tried so far, I was not blown away. Steamed pork dumplings were good, as well as the sauce. Beef with broccoli was ok, but I have yet to be able to find a place with fried rice that isn't that fake looking, yellow. Wonton soup was also ok. Ordered beef lo mein and was smothered in soy sauce. I also ordered half chicken with fries. The only thing edible was the fries. Chicken was a frozen product that was deep fried till skin was blackened, dry tough greasy. Not sure if chicken was cook the breast was sliced in half and fried again. When is a half a chicken consist of 2 wings 1 thigh and breast. MIA was the leg. I called to restaurant to complain. Bergen Dragon is your typical Chinese restaurant. It's literally nothing to write (home) about. The food was as expected. The one thing I did notice though is the side of rice is much smaller than what most places give. It's an actual SIDE of rice and not enough for multiple meals. That's a plus to me. This Chinese take out is the best in area. I have eaten a few in the town and I always come back here. They do have lunch specials on Mon-Sat from 11-3pm the usual cost is around 5-7 bucks and it comes with a choice of soup. There is a small parking lot to park about 12 spaces, they also have a few tables to actually sit and eat. We usually order to go and eat at home. I usually order the Orange Chicken and Beef with Garlic sauce lunch specials. The only thing I can complain s that they never give forks and spoons with my order. read more

The food tastes good but I think they add MSG which is probably why it tastes good. I can't confirm that but I don't like the aftermath of eating it. The service is ok but I wasn't really pleased with one outcome. One night I went in and ordered something I forgot what it was but it cost $8 something. I gave the lady (who I think is the wife of the owner) a $20 and she gave me back change for a $10, I noticed it when I went to put it back in my wallet after she gave it to me. I told her I gave her a $20 she smiled and said "oh yes" and then gave me the correct change. I found it strange that she didn't really argue with me and gave me my change back. In a way I left with the impression that she knew I had given her a $20 but she was trying to play it down and see if I noticed. I found it to be kind of shady on her part. Ordered a pu pu platter for 2. Ribs were burnt, chicken wings were small & tasteless, shrimp toast was greasy and had a soap taste, fried wonton crispy but meat inside really dry. Ordered a substitution of chicken teriyaki instead of the beef they offer, no teriyaki taste just bland dried chicken on a stick. I'm upset I also ordered additional chicken wings and shrimp toast. Never again. Order total $25.33. 1/2 went into the garbage. Also thought it was free delivery, I'm 6 blocks away but they charged me $1 service fee. Buyer beware! read more

Judging by all the great reviews here....I was ready for a Chinese takeout miracle! womp womp It left me thinking that all Chinese food joints are actually a franchise, a la Taco Bell or Blimpie, they just get to give themselves different names. Bergen Dragon happens to be in a tiny strip mall sandwiched between a Subway and a Carvel. Hmmm. Anyway, based on word of mouth and yelp, I had higher hopes for Bergen Dragon! I don't eat Chinese food often, at most once a year, and I think I know why. All the classic Chinese takeout signs were there: young boy manning the register, adults cooking in the open kitchen behind the counter and a woman bagging up your goodies. I believe the classic 'pens in rice' were also on the counter. Unlike most such establishments, I must say this one was clean, organized and running like a well-oiled machine. When we got our food in the car to take home, the car smelled amazing! So points were stacking up in favor of Bergen Dragon and I couldn't wait to get home and dig in! Unfortunately, all the food gave me deja vu. In a blind test, I don't know if I could pick out Bergen Dragon from any other Chinese takeout place I've been to over the years. It wasn't bad at all, in fact, it seemed they give the food here a little more care than most other places, but in the end it just all felt same old, same old. For that reason, it isn't even worth mentioning what we ordered. The quest continues....for Chinese takeout/delivery that I will actually visit more than once a year! read more

You forget to let the driver in cause your doorbell don't work and he has to turn around and stuff and he only gets a little bit mad. He doesn't even unleash the Bergen dragon on you. Tried something different; the photo looked good and whet my whistle. Had shrimp in lobster sauce; it was bland and watery. Fried rice was tasteless and the pork in the fried rice was flaccid; seemed almost not cooked enough. The shrimp was tough and a little rubbery. Not good. Cross another off the list. Since we moved to Lyndhurst, we have come here at least once every month for take-out! We've also dined in a few times. I love the owner, she's such a hard worker, and I respect that. The food has mostly been great. I love their veg lo mein, beef with broccoli, general tzo's, cold seseame noodles, but the most amazing of theirs is the dumplings!!!! The first time I went there, a girl was carrying out a huge take-out bag, and I said- "Is this place good?" And she said, yeah, but today, they all ordered dumplings! And from that day on I became obsessed with the fried pork dumplings. The sauce they make is sweet and tangy, it's like crack.
