Came here for the Halloween event. Majority of the animals were not in there exhibit. We were disappointed. We saw three monkeys, one goat, and two lambs. The Halloween event was ok. There were only two activities tables and it was overcrowded.

I used to visit this zoo when I was a child, came here to visit again to see the "Let it Glow" festival, the last time I visited didn't leave a review but I'll leave one now, the prices are reasonable and it's a nice interactive place to just take a stroll, and I love the fact that the train is still running, though I think the area itself needs some changes, the old ticketing booth was moved to the other side now, and I also think that they should have more holiday type festivals every season, maybe for the Spring time too, with water sprinklers or a water fountain for the animals...

Great little zoo right in Paramus. Plenty of parking in the parking lot lots of affordable stuff to do can get pretty crowded. Don't expect the Bronx zoo

This weekend is special tickets for zoo for Halloween. Nice exhibits with 15 stations for free candy and snacks included. Very organized. All enjoyed special day.

Really cute place with reasonably priced admission. Perfect for littles or an easy stroll. It's a small place with interesting, concise descriptions of the animals. They have a train ride and carousel that costs extra. It took me about an hour to see everything. They have food trucks and ice cream, a gift shop too. I enjoyed myself. It's a small-town zoo so I wouldn't compare it to say The Bronx Zoo. What I thought was cool is that you see the animals up close bc the exhibits are small. Highlights were mountain lions and the indoor parakeet enclosure. The birds fly around you.

Came here with my friends who have a 2 year old and a 6 year to see the holiday lantern spectacular. This was perfect for them and even for adults. There were a few real animals and animated assorted light up animals, birds, reptiles of all kinds. Free parking, they have a general store, clean bathrooms and friendly employees. Overall it was a nice experience. Best part was the train ride which takes you all around the zoo and it was dark so we were able to get a great view of everything lit up. Highly recommend the light show, it will give you an opportunity to keep the kids at bay for an hour or two.

For the Bergen County zoo we need stronger fence and we should make this zoo more bigger.

They should have a ice skating rink inside where the zoo is and they should have a Santa Claus restaurant and they should have hot chocolate with Mama Marshmello and they should have Santa Claus mini burgers and fries and a Santa cola and for the ice skating rink it should be on the other side of the restaurant and they should have the barn for the animals to stay warm at night and they should put a lot of Christmas lights and Santa Claus will come for Christmas time to visit the kids for the holidays.

Really cute small zoo in a massive park! The park this zoo is in reminds me of Central Park in NYC but without the weird NYC Central Park stalkers. Although this zoo is really small it's just another small adventure to do while visiting this massive park. After walking the zoo you can hop onto the small train that goes around the zoo then venture off to the carousel nearby as well as simply walk around the huge park. If you have kids in tow then you'll likely stop at the really neat fun looking playgrounds also available near the zoo. While this place isn't as massive as the Bronx zoo you also pay a fraction of what the Bronx zoo likely costs. For the few bucks this place charges to get in, I say it's worth the price of admission. I certainly don't mind paying to help feed & care for the animals.

Personally, it was a wonderful full circle for me coming here to the Bergen County Zoo, since I had been coming here since I was a child, but now, I was able to finally bring along my own little cub. This zoo is a hidden gem of Northern Jersey, they offer train rides around the park which the little ones will certainly enjoy. They have surprisingly great collection of animals ranging from bald eagles to alligators to monkeys. However, I am painstakingly giving this spot 4-stars, mainly, because some of the animals were not to be seen like the American alligators, but I believe this may have something to do with preparation for an upcoming "holiday lantern spectacular event" which seems delightful (BTW it begins on November 9th and ends January 14th). In addition to the zoo, they have a classic carousel posted outside where my cub found her first love. For adults, the larger Van Saun County Park have many fun activities like tennis courts, picnic sites, and nice walkways to take in the green scenery. I highly recommend charting out a weekend plan here.

This review is solely on the 'Let it Glow' event. I have never been to this zoo so I have no idea how good or bad it is normally. What I can say is I paid about $15 per person for the 'Let it Glow' event. I went to a very similar event at the Philadelphia Zoo last year, spent much more money and I was severely disappointed in the event. This is absolutely worth the money. They have a lot of beautiful displays, you can still see some animals, and a train ride is included in the cost. The only downside for me is that they had no food. They had mini donuts and hot chocolate but I mean actual dinner food. I am not talking about anything fancy... just a hot dog or a sandwich, something simple. Overall, it was a success. I would definitely check it out again and recommend. I will be going back in the summer months since I do want to see what this place is like without the event.

Half of the exhibits are empty and the half that have animals I noticed they looked exhausted and sad. The only good one I saw was the mountain lion, horse, and porcupine. Really wanted to see capybaras, alligators, and anteaters as they mentioned they have on the website but none were here. The prairie dog was advertised everywhere but it was not there and after circling back and forth three times it finally popped out.... Just one tiny one If you are traveling far don't recommend it. But if it is close by it is a cute small zoo

    Brian R.

Without getting into how I feel about taking animals out of their natural habitat for our amusement..... Bergen County Zoo wasn't charging for admissions today. A few of the exhibits were closed so I guess you get what you pay for. This zoo isn't very big and there isn't that many different animals but it's still a nice area for you to walk around and see some animals. It seemed pretty fucked up to see an eagle on a leash but maybe there's a backstory? There were goats, cows, horses, elks, ostriches, mountain lions, sloths, monkeys and more. There's a small train that goes around the zoo but unfortunately it was closed as well. The gift shop and information center were open. There was no food just a vending machine with drinks and a guy with a cart selling ice cream.

How have I not been here sooner! The zoo itself is small. It took us about 45 minutes to complete. I came here during off-season. Due to winter months many of their animals are not out; so the zoo is free during that time. For free admission and still seeing a handful of animals I personally think it's worth it. Each station has its information stand that you can take your time reading and learning more details of animals. The day we went spring was in the air as many people had the same idea visiting. Employees were great gearing the traffic in and out. There was a huge line for the train so we didn't get to experience that. Instead, we went for a walk back towards the first lot then back. On our way back we enjoyed an hour or so in the park located right across the zoo. There's a carousel and a food truck on premise to check out as well. From the truck we had freshly baked cookies. Delicious!

First, the park probably has the LARGEST playground I've everrrrrr seen at a public park with multiple playgrounds WITHIN the playground itself. As you can imagine, it gets quite busy on nice weekend days. Surrounding the playground are many pavilions and picnic tables for those that want to have BBQs or large gatherings, which can be had with a permit. In addition to one of the best park playgrounds, the Bergen County Zoo resides inside of the park, which is free to EVERYONE during the colder months of the year. During the warmer months, there's a small fee for Bergen County residents and non-residents. If that's not enough, there is a miniature train ride that takes people around the entire park for a small fee. And, let me tell you first hand that the train ride is actually quite long at 5-7 minutes. Nearby, there is also a carousel that you can ride on for a fee. And, guess what?? There's even more! There is a barn with ponies that let's people ride the ponies for a fee as well. There are also jogging, walking and biking paths too along with a few tennis courts. Besides all of the permanent amenities, there are also events during different times of the year including the Winter Wonderland, which ... surprise, surprise ... takes place during the winter months. If you're worried about parking, no sweat, there are multiple large lots inside of the park, so once you arrive you can start your day asap. Like I said, DEFINITELY one of the best public parks in all of NJ.

Either way, everyone's a winner. The petting zoo is much larger than others in the area, giving the pets and the customers a lot of space to roam around. You can buy your tickets online, or with the QR code on site, or with cash at the booth located at the zoo entrance at the top of the hill past the upper parking lot. The farmers market provides amazingly fresh produce, fruits, veggies, baked goods, and a pre-made food selection. You can order a fresh sandwich, sides and soup. A delicious bonus. Somethings look out for include sparce parking at the top of the hill where the farmers market is, but plenty further down and towards the greenhouse. A fun adventure rolled into one location.

If you are debating whether a membership is worth it or investing on some tickets for the family, I say GO FOR IT! you really won't regret it I have a membership and it's been the greatest membership I've had thus far. I have the family zoo plus membership where three adults including yourself get in for free plus 4 children. You have the option to add another adult on the card- the purpose is so that person can go to the zoo with the card without you having to be there. The person whose name is on the card must be present. You are able to remove or add a person at anytime. For me it's more flexible and convenient to only have my name on it to not restrict the people I could take. The membership grants you access to the zoo for a full year, including the Central Park zoo, prospect zoo and queens. there's a membership that grants you access to the aquarium as well but is more expensive. Parking is not included in the membership but is available for an additional fee at the time of purchase with your membership or at any point during your membership. Every time I go to the zoo, regardless of the season we find parking so we don't need the parking at the zoo. You get a 10% discount at the gift shops and food spots. You get free access to jungle world, nature trek, the children's museum, Congo world, the big carousel, wild Asia monorail and the butterfly garden which you would normally have to pay an additional fee to get into besides your regular zoo admission ticket. You also get early access to new animal exhibits before the public does. And those are only some of the benefits that you get, you also get additional discounts for things that aren't covered by the membership such as the holiday lights show (25% off) I am delighted to say that I have never seen the bathroom at the zoo in bad conditions EVER. I don't know how they manage to keep it so clean, regardless of the large crowds. Overall, the zoo is always clean. The guests are respectful in the sense that there is never garbage on the floor. It is worth it to purchase a souvenir cup. You get free refills throughout the day and for any future visits. I've been using the same cup since last year with no issues. There are some areas where the refill is a $1 and others where it's free with that specific cup. If you are a member, remember to mention to the cashier that you are one so they can apply your member discount for your food and drinks, they often forget to ask if you are a member. The best recommendation I can make is to use the interactive map provided by the zoo, available on your phone. You share your location with the map, and tap on the animal you want to see and it will direct you to it live. It will look similar to your iPhone maps when you're walking without the audio. Trust me the interactive map will make things significantly easier and less aggravating. You can miss a lot of animalsthat are close by without the map, you would be walking in circles without it and end up note tired at the end. The signal over there is not great but the maps function work perfect for me. I recommend you wear walking sneakers because you will WALK a while lotttt. You also can't get in the nature trek without sneakers. You can bring in your own food and drinks to the zoo, there are designated areas to sit down and eat. An insulated book bag works wonders for me. There are strollers available for rent which you will absolutely need if you don't have your own. The zoo is very inclusive when it comes to people with disabilities which is great, they have alternative routes all over and tell you in advance if a particular route will lead to stairs, and if so there's alternative routes that are stairs free. There are also quiet areas and headphones available upon request. The most perfect time to go is right before spring, you will have the animals to yourself ! I discovered that solo dates to the zoo is the most majestic experience ever! You get to enjoy the zoo with no rush and it's even better without the crowds. The animals are also more relaxed and don't hide when there's less crowds. For the first time ever I got to see the tiger walk right next to the glass. Prior to the spring there will be exhibits closed for the winter but none that take away from the experience. The zoo is free on Wednesdays and so is the botanical garden which is close by. I went to the botanical garden for an hour to journal and spend time with god and proceeded to the zoo for the rest of my day and it made it 100x better to see that these beautiful animals are a gift to us form the lord 10/10 recommend

I've never once seen the entire zoo in one trip. I've been going there since I was five and wouldn't be surprised if there are parts I still haven't seen yet because it's so expansive. All my visits as an adult have all been with groups of children, and it's difficult corralling and motivate kids to keep moving in such a large zoo. I found it best to ask each kid what they want to see most and hit up those spots. Treat everything passed along the way as a bonus. These trips often include city kids. These kids are used to walking entire neighborhoods just to get to school or anywhere else, but the zoo still wears them out, so imagine suburbanites used to the car life on these trips. Those kids struggle. We've always left before even seeing half of what the zoo has to offer. If I didn't live in NY and wanted to really wanted kids to see the zoo more fully, I'd break it into a multi day trip rather than attempt it in one go. But kids are always happy with my abridged trips to just say hi to their favorites. I'm the one left wanting. I'll probably have to start going solo or with adults in order to really explore. I do think it will be possible to see everything in one trip with just adults. The zoo is just not little legs friendly. The Bronx Zoo is probably the most expensive zoo I've ever visited. If an exhibit is popular, anticipate pulling out some money to pay more to see it. That's ok for me if the money is used for good, but it's something to consider if on a budget. I wish they were more strict about not letting people bang on the glass in the primate exhibit. I leave the primates for last on trips because watching them makes me so sad. That sadness gets punctuated by bangs and taps on the glass by inconsiderate zoo goers.
