I love Public Square in downtown Cleveland. It is an open space where alot of people gather to eat their lunch during break time from work or simply just to walk by and admire the big water fountain that shoots water out from the ground. ACTIVITIES -- Ice Skating rink in the winter months, speaker series in the summer months, I think festivals too, etc. The Soldiers and Sailor Museum is right on Public Square too - you can look up my review of that museum on Yelp. The tall monument that you see sticking up on that small structure is the museum. It is small from the outside but it has a lot of history including an underground section to tour. ICE-RINK -- Join Downtown Cleveland's email list to get updates on Public Square and downtown activities. The update email from 8 January 2025 stated this: "Open on the weekends through Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan 20th) the ice rink and magical lights at Public Square make the perfect destination for a friends and family outing. Tickets are $12 and include skate rentals." FOOD -- There are food options around the vicinity. Rebol, a healthy food spot, is one of them which is located right on Public Square. The owner of Rebol also owns Townhall. I haven't been to both restaurants in a long time but I remember enjoying the food when I previously visited. In the summer months, food trucks and farmers markets park around Public Square plus the surrounding area. Parking is street parking or a nearby garage including the Tower City garage. Street parking is hard to find most of the time so beware. Public Square gets packed especially with children during the summer months. Lots of pluses. First, there's a spacious parking lot which has direct footbridge access to the Villa Angela Beach (which has the Cleveland sign). Second, if you enjoy fishing, Wildwood Park has a couple of locations off the piers which are amenable to early morning or late afternoon fishing from the land. Third, it's not as crowded as other beaches in the metro area. One downside, however, is the limited areas where swimming is permitted. This is probably for safety reasons (to help the lifeguards). If you have younger children, however, this beach is a nice option. Overall, I would probably not go out of my way to visit this beach. But if you're staying on the northeast side of Cleveland, it's worth a stop.

The water was brownish. I did walk in it. Not sure I'd want to swim in it though. Lovely views all around. People fishing off the bridge 'catching fresh air'. I couldn't believe it was not packed. If I lived here, I'd be here often.

My friends and I enjoy coming here in nice weather during the warmer months to have little picnic dinners and to catch up. The grounds are well cared for, and when you're done, you can walk over towards the lake to watch the sunset. It's usually on the quieter side, which makes it even better! We've seen a number of native birds and have enjoyed some birdwatching while we catch up over our dinners.

The leaves made it a little difficult to find the trail, but nonetheless it was really pretty. I loved the stairs within the park as well. One thing to mention- you definitely don't want to miss Mill Creek falls. It's the TALLEST waterfall in the county. However, it's a little bit of a walk from the nature reserve parking lot (I think it took us like 40 min), and my only complaint is that the trail spits you out onto the road for a bit, but then connects you to another trail that takes you to the waterfall. (I wish it was more continuous). You can also drive there since there's a small parking lot near the falls as well.

If you go to Merwin's Wharf and gaze across the river you're looking at the Irishtown Bend Park project. ​The massive construction you see is part of a $100 million transformation of that hillside. They recently finished the critical $65 million stabilization phase to keep the hill from sliding into the river, and now they're moving into the phase of building a 25-acre public park. It's designed to be a massive green space that will eventually connect the Cuyahoga Valley National Park all the way to Lake Erie. ​Just a bit further down toward Tower City, there is also the Bedrock Riverfront development happening, which includes the new Cleveland Cavaliers training facility and a large outdoor amphitheater. On a nice day you should visit Merwin's Wharf and just look. I guarantee you will be amazed. Those scope of this project is amazing.
