My husband and I gave Bradley Woods our first try last summer. We originally went on a very hot day, and on a particular weekend where the oak leaf rollers were everywhere! We couldn't walk on the trail because the little guys were hanging from every tree and falling into our hair and faces. We still managed to walk around the open field and took in some views of the little lake. It was cute, but perhaps not a great day to visit. Over a year later, the following September we decided to give it another try. We saw police officers patrolling the parking lots, which we thought was a good sign that it was a safe place to be. After parking, we started on Bunn's Lake Loop, and to our surprise, the lake where we stood and listened to the bullfrogs last year was now... gone? Dried up? It was just a pit where the lake used to be. The ducks, geese and frogs were gone with it. We saw a few ducks in a small area that still had a bit of water left in it. I'm not sure what happened to it, but it was sad to see. After walking the half mile loop around what was left of the lake, we tried for the Quarry Loop trail since it was longer. The first way we tried to go was blocked off. We turned around and tried to go in another way, but it ended up not being a great walking trail, and it was covered with dog poop, so we turned around after only a few minutes. We then tried the Cahoon Creek Loop. That was the best one, and was a really beautiful, quiet walking trail. We really enjoyed it and wished it was longer! After deciding to head home, we made our way back to the car. Upon arriving we saw that someone had keyed the side of my car. Oh... I guess that's why the police were patrolling. What a pleasant surprise! So, not a great experience overall for us. My husband and I love going on walks at different Metroparks, and I feel bad even leaving a negative review for a park! But I can say that we definitely won't be returning. The park is beautiful, but the trails aren't long enough, the lake is MIA, and I don't really care for my car being vandalized in broad daylight, in a police patrolled park. The other reviews online for Bradley Woods are pretty good, so I'm not sure if we just had bad luck, but this park just isn't for us.

Bay Village has a few parks along the lake. Columbia Park is just one. It can be hard to get to…read more Has a small parking lot. There's a beach but it isn't much. Has many stairs that you have to carefully use to get to the beach. It often is very slippery. The waves make things wet. It isn't much of a beach. This is pretty rocky. Swimming is allowed. The water is very dangerous looking. It's not a place for amateurs. This also isn't just a dog park. It's okay for people to hang out at. They have a few tables at the entrance before stairs. It can be hard to get here. Parking lot is across the street. The park is like someone's back yard and there's many locals who seem to like to be here whenever.

Still by far my favorite not-an-official-dog-park place to take my pup in the summer!…read more I'm almost certain this private beach is run by dog-lovers since no one cares that there are 15-20 pooches running up and down the beach at any given moment. Again, owners are typically very responsible with poos and leashing. Just keep in mind that since this isn't officially a doggie beach, dog-less folks also love to come here just to relax. Be mindful. As a person with a small/medium sized pup, I appreciate that most folks who aren't 100% sure about their bully-breed dogs keep them leashed, just in case. I mean, this place has a dozen of pooches running up and down the beach at any given moment AND there are lots of kids--it's just considerate, even if it's not necessary. I love the mutual respect folks have for one another here and that it's a little, secret paradise humans can bring their best furry friends to enjoy! Bring water, poop bags (although they have some upstairs) and a towel to lay on. Later in the fall months the sand washes away and it's much rockier, but in the early/mid summer months the sand is plentiful.

I mark the autumnal equinox with a hike into the thickest woods, far past the ledges, up the river,…read moreinto the heart of darkness. There, in a sooted cave, lives the Oracle of Hinckley. His hair and beard are a vineyard of leaves, twigs and bits of food; he wears a coat of many colors, mainly the colors found on Holiday Inn lobby curtains. Here again, yes, with the same conundrum: Steelhead? Steelhead, yeah. They haunt me. Mmm. Haunting. One of my wives used to say, If it's so much trouble, why bother? She only lasted that one winter. Bother, indeed. Where are they? How do you catch one? Wives? Uh, no. Steelhead. Ah. They come from the silver trucks. They are dumped wholesale into The V, Rock, Chag, Grand, Connie. Spend a few years out in Erie, plumping up, then right back upstream. Some get lost, come up Burning River, most don't. They've come to spawn, not eat. Yeah, but catching them? Impatient, are we? Well. Get lost. No. Go on. I'm sorry. Stand in the river, cast until your arm numbs, repeat as necessary. Switch from streamer to nymph to egg pattern to nymph to streamer. Go when the weather is horrible, go when the bedsheets have just warmed up, before the alarm clock tolls. Go when the rod guides freeze. It would help if you're willing to walk more than twenty paces from the road, but from the looks of you, you wouldn't walk into the bank if they were handing out hundies. I'll do whatever you say. This is my year. That's what you say every year. Hey, since you're here... got a few bucks?
