His bedside manner was very concerning and thoughtful. I just wish he was closer to my residence in south Orange County, or I would continue to treat with him!!! Poor customer service! I waited over a month to get an appointment for an eye exam, the week of the appointment I confirmed it multiple times via text. The afternoon before I received a voicemail my appointment had been cancelled. I immediately called regarding rescheduling for the following Friday but was told they were booked and could not accommodate me, and that they only had one upcoming appointment slot which conflicted with my work schedule and that it would be at least a couple more weeks for another appointment. read more

Dr Berbos is Old school in how he treats his patients. He spends time with you and listens to your problem with a true desire to help. He is the most caring, compassionate and honest doctor I have ever gone to. He stayed an hour late waiting for me to come from my general practitioners office just to make sure my retina was ok. i have a condition I've been suffering from for years, this Dr. made me take every eye test that exists on the planet to FINALLY (visually evident) diagnose me. He NEVER told me how the condition should be treated, only suggested over the counter remedies which I had already tried for years. He did mention he doesn't like to prescribe steroids yada yada yada. I had to suggest things to try, it was like he really didn't want to treat me properly and just keep me coming in and charging me. I have called the office several times to ask for something different at least 3 times and NO ONE WILL RETURN MY CALL. I can't say enough. After years of trying a few different Opthamologists in the area, a couple who were just ok, we finally found Dr. Berbos. He is professional, thorough, friendly and a great diagnostician. I have had several issues with my eyes and typically the Dr.s have very quickly diagnosed allergies, etc without even a thorough exam. Here I felt well looked after and the office staff were incredibly helpful, friendly and efficient. Dr. B is my favorite doctor. He's actually my second favorite doctor since my dog's vet is probably my favorite doctor but that's a review for another day. I've been going to Dr. B since I was a kid, when I started to develop some vision problems, and he and Dr. Yang have really done a great job at managing my medical problems. His staff is also really friendly and they go out of the way to accommodate your schedule and your needs. They also always check-up on you after appointments to see how your vision is. I think the other thing I really like about Dr. B is he has a great referral network of highly specialized eye doctors who can surgically treat things that he can't treat. I only have one set up eyes so if I have a issue that Dr B is not confident in I know he's doesn't have an ego problem that would prevent him to refer a challenging case to another doctor with more specialization. I will say the wait in his office used to be pretty long, but I noticed he got rid of another doctor about two years ago and wait times have never been bad since, my theory is that the other doctor might have slowed down the grove at the practice but now that it's just Dr. B and Dr. Yang it's really smooth. read more

I was referred to Dr. Nickolas Berbos years ago by my husband who has been seeing him since 1986 when he was seen by Dr Berbos Sr. True, in the past one would wait long hours, but it is not entirely Berbos' doing. He DID share the office with 2 other eye doctors and that can cause bottle-neck delays of all sorts. But, yay, the 1 hour waits are no longer. I was seen within 30 minutes of my recent scheduled appointment and the staff is professional and top notch. Equipment is clean and up-to-date. The waiting room is always immaculate and is comfy and pleasant to look at as well. Dr. Berbos has delightful bedside manners and is old school in that, he talks straight talk and is never condescending. Dr. J. Nickolas Berbos has a love for medicine, is an artist at his craft and does practice the Hippocratic oath. A rare find these days. read more

The front office staff was friendly and very attentive. I was brought to the back and had to wait in two separate places. When I got to the patient room, I waited close to 1.5 hours (total wait time from arrival was close to 2 hours) I asked for a full refund and left. No matter how great the reviews are, that kind of treatment leaves a horrible impression. I heard him attend other patients who were brought in after me. If he can't prioritize his time and patients, he doesn't deserve my time or money. I never leave poor reviews but the posts are very misleading. read more

My 13yo suddenly developed an eye condition (an allergic reaction to the sun reflecting off the water) after spending a day at Knotts Soak City last summer. I took him to 2 prior ophthalmologists and the condition kept coming back after an eye drop treatment and a few months. Then I found Dr. Berbos. He was very thorough in examining his eye and referred him to a cornea specialist who was able to finally resolve his eye condition. Meanwhile, Dr. Berbos was truly concerned and cared enough to tell me to let him know the outcome, that he would not put my son's file away until he heard back from me which was over a month later. Dr. Berbos is an attentive doctor that makes sure all your questions are answered and you never feel rushed. It feels like you're talking with an old friend or family member. I have never had to wait long for my appointments and when you need to speak to him over the phone, he gets back to you in a decent amount of time. He also does his best to save you money when sending prescriptions in which is not a common practice. I would recommend him to anyone looking for an opthalmologist. I was so nervous when I started having issues with my eyes a few months ago since I can't risk covid exposure. I was pleasantly surprised to learn his office was doing virtual appointments depending on the circumstances. If you have hours to kill and want to read magazines without being attended to then this is the professional to see for your eye care. I honestly never waited so long to see a Dr. ever. On the first visit it was a 2 hour wait in the waiting room. He was very backed up so i gave up and went to front desk to reschedule an early morning appointment. I arrived at 930am and actually got into an exam room this time. Seriously the best eye facility I have ever been to. I went there a few weeks ago because I have called many places regarding my color deficiency for the career I am in. I am an electrician apprentice and my color Vision has given me problems in the past. (I also just needed a regular eye exam) Dr Berbos (+ his family & staff) are some of the nicest individuals I have ever met. They really treat you like family. Everybody was so helpful & they gave me suggestions (and a handwritten referral to an eye specialist). I never felt rushed the entire time (as most doctors offices feel like). Every one of my questions were answered. Dr Berbos personally called me a week after my appointment to check up on me (what doctors really do that!!) and I walked away feeling I have taken a step in the right direction. It was my lucky day when I went to the office of Dr. Berbos. I noticed I was getting a stye in my eye, on Friday, two days later it had developed into an eye infection. I made an emergency call to Dr. Berbos, on Monday, his staff fit me into his schedule. I was a new patient but they still managed to get me an appointment. I saw Dr. Berbos and he expressed great concern and prescribed antibiotics. That night at 2am I called Dr. Berbos emergency number because my eye would not open and I was very worried the infection would affect my vision. Dr. Berbos told me he would meet me at his office at 3AM (unbelievable) at the office he refused to accept any money (unbelievable) but offered to call a Dr. who specialized in advanced eye infections. True to his word the next day he called me to tell me he had managed to get an appointment with Dr. Goldberger (another truly amazing healer) an infection specialist. I was admitted to Cedar Sinai Hospital Tuesday afternoon. Honestly I feel that Dr. Berbos saved my eyesight and in my eyes (no pun intended) he is a living Angel and well worth the wait to see him at his office. read more

I have been a type 1 diabetic for over 55 years and I've seen plenty of eye doctor's and have had lots of eye problems. I lost my eye sight in one eye on a Saturday when I was at work. I called for the E/R number and Dr. Berbos was on call. He meet me at the office and took care of me and then told me to come back on Sunday so he could re-check my eye.
