But today I took an actual class on machine embroidery and had a blast. I learned so much and learned how to do things correctly. Being self taught isn't always the best. My intention was to save up more money for a sewing only Babylock machine. But they had a trade in embroidery and sewing machine for the exact same price as the new machine. After some testing of the machine and negotiations with the husband the Adventura II came home with me. For the class I used a Babylock Aria that had ALL the bells and whistles. They have good quality fabrics and especially good quality thread. They repair sewing machines, so when the old 1960s Kenmore machine I bought needed a cleaning and adjustment I brought it in. It was returned cleaned, oiled and with a new correct needle. I also purchased a set of needles for different things. I mostly just mend clothing, but I have a periodic older visitor who uses the machine for her quilting projects, so I wanted it to be in top shape. In addition they sell very high quality machines that are borderline commercial systems you can program to do all kinds of fancy projects. Service here is very friendly. They also have classes!

The sofa has now survived a pack and move out of the area and now we get to enjoy our "new" old piece in an all new setting. Owner Bob was nice and seemed to know his stuff. This being my first time for a reupholster job on an antique piece I inherited from a family member dating back to 1883. All along it was something he could handle and said once he got the piece he would work hard and fast as he was "SO BUSY." First hiccup, he couldn't get the tufting to look right as I requested and so I had to forgo the tufting. Secondly, the warehouse he used to purchase the gimp from was for sale and he wasn't able to get the gimp I needed.... then he talked me into the double welting idea where he couldn't even get the lines straight. On top of all of this it was delivered with a chunk of wood missing from the leg. For over a month I got the run around from Bob about how he was going to handle this never telling me until a month in a half later that it wasn't his fault and he wasn't going to fix it despite the fact that I had several photos of this couch just before it left to go to his shop with no damage to any of the wood. Overall his professionalism was lacking and his customer service left us feeling unsatisfied. We are still in need to a fix to this important piece of furniture but clearly we will not being doing any business with Bob anytime in the future.

The store is clean and organized, but if you're not familiar with the layout or are just browsing, the square footage can be overwhelming if you imagine 2 Homegoods stores combined with 1 Michaels store. It's a lot to take in. Most of my purchases are decorative home items like a shelf with wire baskets to hang above my coffee bar, a wood block with an ampersand painted on it, and an assortment of photo frames. Photo frames are always 50% off, and all of the ones I have bought are sturdy frames. I recently bought three frames to DIY my own hanging frames and, at my own fault, they fell and broke. (Note to self: hot glue doesn't work for everything). I was amazed though that the glass didn't shatter when the frame hit the wood floor, the wood frame just cracked at the corner. Holiday decorations are always displayed way ahead of the upcoming holiday, and the craft items are endless from jewelry making, scrapbooking, fabric, etc. You can always find a "50% off one full price item" coupon online too. Don't be fooled with what may appear to be an expensive item. There is often only one cashier which can create busy periods that don't end. Hobby Lobby's checkout system is outdated as they have to enter every price by hand instead of scanning items. I love Hobby Lobby though and prefer it over Homegoods or the more expensive home decor stores.

POSTER CHILD   This…read morereliable arts & crafts store in Bolingbrook always has some kind of sale going on.   I've stopped into this Hobby Lobby on Weber Rd a couple times to buy frames and canvas art, after noticing the walls in our house had been looking rather bare.  The store itself is pretty sleepy as there's rarely more than 4-5 people shopping at any given time, with only 1-2 staff and a single register open.   The colorful textiles and D.I.Y. fabrics are towards the back of the store, while picture accessories and seasonal things are on the right.  Frames were 50% off when I visited - a 20" x 16" was priced at $6, down from $12 - so I paid considerably less than if I'd gone on Amazon.  The cheap frames fit my needs perfectly.   I also bought two tropical landscapes for the master bathroom.  Their canvas art comes in all kinds of formats, be it a large square or skinny vertical (6" x 36").  Hobby Lobby has an area devoted to Star Wars, Marvel and some DC stuff, plus a nautical/oceany section with anchors, ship wheels, and a very cool holographic shark.  CHOMP!   * TL;DR *   You can usually expect to see some type of discount on Hobby Lobby's merchandise, and that makes them an appealing option as more stores try to compete with online retailers.   My experiences thus far have been quiet but successful.  I'm glad to have a place nearby that carries such a wide assortment of project materials and home décor.
