The food was fantastic! We had the soft pretzels and cheese to start, which were some of the best I'd ever had. And then all 4 of us got a different main meal - from chicken wraps, to a grouper fish sandwich - we all agreed they were amazing! The offered me a mimosa when they found out I was a bride and we were wedding dress shopping, and the chef himself even came out to ask about how our meal was. I stopped into Benson's Tavern in between bridal appointments and our server, Sandy, was amazing. She brought me a complimentary mimosa for being the bride and gave amazing recommendations for food to myself and my group. I had the Caesar chicken wrap and fries. My husband enjoys eating here with his sports buddies and this time we went just the two of us for a late lunch date. It was easy to find and there a sign pointing to a new parking area. This was very helpful as otherwise parking can be a bit of hassle. We sat down and were greeted by a sever named Cat. She was so friendly and knowledgable about the menu. She was extremely attentive to our table and even made sure my husband's burger came in the minimized ingredients style he enjoys. She is clearly great at multitasking as she was able to small talk with us while being aware of the needs of her other tables and attending to them in a timely manner. She really helped make our experience one that makes me want to come back and ask for Cat! When one can go to a restaurant and trust that the staff is personable, food great, with a good local vibe it highlights how wonderful of an establishment it really is. The burgers are good, but as for me, my favorite is the Nachos Deluxe! It's piled high with so much goodness. I think it is made to share, but it also tastes great as a meal the next day! read more

Bad service and by the manager on duty /bartender. Messed up the order then it wasn't right the second time. Didn't even bother to complain the second time as we were now late to a bridal appointment. Took forever to get drinks and everything. No apology not taken off the bill. Nobody likes walking into a place for the first time and immediately being told that they're short two cooks and that the wait on your food is going to take longer than normal. But with Fat Tire on draft and no kid by our side, we were fine with waiting. The staff was very friendly and prompt with refills and anything else we needed. One of the best black and bleu burgers I've ever had, I'm looking forward to going back. As we left I made a point to tell a manager/owner how pleased we were even on what seemed to be an off night for the restaurant, she was happy to hear it and asked that I share my experience on here. Reliably food good and a solid beer/drink selection! It's not pretentious like Wyoming's Tela, nor is it a ratty, smoke-filled dive like many of Reading's joints. Goldilocks will find Benson's just right. Good food, fair price and doesn't require a 45 minute wait on a weekend night (I don't stand in line to eat). Good for families, casual night out or even a friends get together. Only knock: both times I went here the wait staff was friendly and efficient, but not very knowledgeable about the beer list or drink specials. That could use a little work. I placed a "to go" order at Benson's last night and I was disappointed with half of my order. The fried pickles were good, I really liked the breading. However, my Towering Tavern burger was completely raw in the middle of both patties. I told them medium when asked how I wanted it prepared and it wasn't anywhere close. I had to tear the burger apart and microwave the two patties until they were edible but the burger was ruined at that point. I called back and expressed my concern. The gentleman apologized and seemed somewhat concerned, but never offered any kind of discount on a future order. I'd like to think it was just a fluke. Chances are I will give them one more shot, but two strikes and they're out. read more

Great addition to the tavern/restaurant scene! Updated throughout with nice shady patio area. Very friendly wait and kitchen staff. Large menu with lots of choices. I had the Philly Cheese Steak sand, he had wings with a nice kick to them. Great beer selections! Will be back read more

This is a cute little bar with a great sit down resteraunt. The food was tasty, good for a quick bite. The service was exceptional. Sandy was especially friendly and took care of our every need. I hit on Benson's Tavern while cruising Yelp for non-chain restaurants with decent reviews. My wife and I agreed that this is one for the "must return" list. The service was outstanding - we sat in the bar area and were waited on by the bartender. The food came out promptly and was perfectly prepared with generous portion sizes. I had the fish sandwich and it may be the best fish sandwich I've ever had. Only negative is a minor one and that is parking can be a challenge. read more

Stopped here for a late dinner Saturday evening. This place could set the standard for welcoming ambience and the friendliest employees ever. We were seated immediately since any crowds were long gone. Immaculately kept, both inside and out, with attractive up to date decor and big roomy booths plus the requisite TVs turned to football with one screen showing the Reds, who won by the way. We ordered ribs, defibrillator potatoes and a chef salad. I know, but that's what I was in the mood for. Everything was so good. My partner grunted (oh joy) appreciation thru dinner praising the fresh sautéed vegetables while he demolished the ribs and potatoes. My chef salad had very generous amounts of ham, turkey, bacon, diced tomatoes, hard boiled egg on iceberg and leaf lettuce. Our waitress was easy going, engaged and pleasant, chatting with us about gardening. We had a good time and great food at Bensons and are putting it on our go again list. Joe has a great personality and a good bartender. However the kitchen needs help. I ordered mild boneless chicken wings which had no sauce and tasted like fast food nuggets. Three pieces of skinny celery. No ranch given. My finds fish and chips... the fish was not cooked. Really hoping this local pub would succeed but not with food like this. read more

My son, daughter, her boyfriend and myself all went here last week. Wow I was completely shocked the place looks really small on the outside. But once we walked through the door it pretty big. And really nice the bar area had the original bar but it beautiful. There are 2 rooms to the back and they are really big. We sat at the bar. The bar tender was Joe I think pretty sure he was the owner. It was his birthday. He was an extremely nice man and fun to talk to. He joked around with my daughter and myself. Lots of laughs. I've lived in Reading for over 10 years. Kept saying I wanted to go here but never made it till now. Wish I would of found this gem a lot sooner. I had one of the best burgers I've had in years it was soooo juicy and delicious with onion rings which were great too. The chicken wings are really good here too. I will be going back and my whole family definitely recommends going here to everyone. We enjoyed our time there. The other customers were very friendly. food was good... however, a hair was found in our pizza. when we informed our server she made the statement 'well that's the first time that's ever happened.. we only have guys in the kitchen'.. another lady came to the table to grab the plate with the pizza and apologized. she came back and brought the check and made no adjustments to the bill. read more
