This is the ONLY picture that existed of Valley Tavern on the internet. It was on google images. I saw it and thought - ok this place must be cool if this guy works here right? But then thought - oh man it would be so disappointing if we walked in and didn't see this dude. HIGH expectations here. All four of us walk in ... NO JOKE DUDE IS THERE BEHIND THE BAR - CIGAR IN HIS MOUTH AND ALL! We thought - there is no way in hell this actually happened. Like what are the chances? That means this guy would have to be here on a Saturday at 1pm smoking a cigar at the exact time we walk in and HE WAS. We died laughing and ordered a round of beers. Turns out that's not how they do it here. Someone at the bar bought the entire bar a round. Cigar guy tells us when we try to pay it's taken care of. And asks if we want another on the next guy who's payin'. We are floored and then the guy at the bar cheers' us and I say I feel so bad - please let us pay - we are doing a bar crawl and I feel bad I cannot return the favor. He just replies - cheers lady, go cats! (I'm wearing a bearcats hat). *Side note: Friends ordered 2 Jameson's neat before this - friend has a $10 bill and a $20 bill. Thinks oh man - $10 won't be enough so she gives him a $20. He gives her back FIFTEEN DOLLARS. It was $5 total for TWO JAMESONS. WHERE ARE WE?!?! The atmosphere feels like my parents basement in the 70's - but the company is clutch and this was by FAR the coolest place we went all day. #ValleyTavern4Lyfe

Sundy's exemplifies such a dive bar and is located in Finneytown, about 10 miles north of downtown. It is a small, family-owned establishment, so don't be surprised if--after only 2 or 3 visits--the bartenders and frequenters remember your face. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable, and the drink prices are probably too reasonable (but don't tell them I said that!). There are daily drink specials that will satisfy even the hardest of drinkers. Sundy's is "The Home of the Stormcloud" but I always recommend the Nada Bomb: originated on the West side, it is a shot comprised of cherry vodka, orange juice, red bull and a splash of cran. These shots run $5 per, so I always suggest simply buying a pitcher for the unbeatable price of $20 (the pitcher equals about 10 shots, so it's a really great deal, especially to buy for a round). Benson Tavern absolutely deserves five stars! We had an outstanding experience from start to finish. The food was fantastic, everything was cooked perfectly, and the service was on point. We tried a little bit of everything--the buffalo chicken salad, chicken wings, French onion soup, chicken fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp, smash burgers, and the crispy chicken sandwich--and there honestly wasn't a single disappointment. Everything came out fresh, hot, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. When you order that many different things and every single dish is a hit, that says a lot about the kitchen! The service was just as impressive. Our server was extremely attentive without hovering, kept an eye on everything we needed, and our drinks were refilled quickly. We never had to sit around waiting or try to get someone's attention, which made the entire experience even more enjoyable. Between the amazing food and attentive service, Benson Tavern really impressed us. We will absolutely be back and would recommend it to anyone looking for great food and great service. Definitely a place worth checking out! read more
