I will NEVER set foot in this store again. Way overpriced and customer service in the flooring dept does what they want. I asked for a quote for tile and VLT and received 17 days later an email 2 pages of everything that is needed to install the project, I.e. nails,glue etc. I asked for the tile only price and still did not receive the quote. It's too late to order because I waited too long for the quote on the overprice VLT and my contractor is due shortly. I had 3 others come out for an estimate and received 1 that day and the other 2 the next day. Maybe my project of 3 bath floors and a bath remodel is not big enough for them they don't care about the little guy. Save you money, go somewhere else! read more

Horrible customer service. Rude and unhelpful. By the way most working class folks work during the week why would you only be open on a Saturday not the whole weekend. No wonder big box stores put local businesses out of business. Unless you only cater to commercial folks that build during the week. Which means you don't really care about your local community who wants to support local family business . So, I was looking for a very 'specific color' Adirondick chair for my wife. I found on Google that Benson's True Value had it. I went to Derry, NH ... they did not have it, but told me to go to Londonderry, as they had all of the colors! I went to 'Benson Lumber & Hardware Inc., in Londonderry, NH. I walked in, Hallie asked if she could help me, well that was nice that I was noticed. I told her that I was looking for a specific color Adirondic chair, and I did not see it. She said 'No problem, we can order that'. So, she took my order, and two days later it was there. My wife was so surprised, and I felt like a champ! Thanks to 'Hallie' at Benson's in Londonderry! Guess what, because of the 'making me feel like the most important person' in the store when I walked in, I am going to see them when we get our bathroom redone! read more

Much better quality lumber then what you get at the box store. I've also had much better luck with finding a very specific screw or other piece of hardware. I special ordered some siding from them last summer and the staff was very helpful. read more

Benson's is not Home Depot. That is a GOOD THING. The folks I've dealt with have gone the extra mile on several occasions. I actually email them to ask if they have stuff and if they don't, they order it and it's in in two days waiting for me. What a modern approach.. email! Recently, I bought a special edition Weber grill from them that Home Depot is not even allowed to carry. A MUCH better grill (stainless grates, etc.) for very little extra money. They assembled it for me.. FOR FREE! Then they all wheeled it out to the car and put it in. You won't get that at Home Depot, you'll get a box and a receipt. This is the difference in service which is why I shall always try to go to Benson's first and depot only in an emergency. They are first rate in my book. read more

As a carpenter I avoid places like Home Depot whenever possible and turn to places like Benson's for lumber. More often than not they have better prices and the lumber quality is superior. Also Benson's employees go the extra mile for you every time. I also know that my purchase at Benson's is helping the community more than when my money goes to a corporate juggernaut like Home Depot. Went to Benson's a couple of months ago to buy Benjamin Moore paint, had a good experience. So when I needed paint again I decided to return to Benson's, terrible choice. They mixed stain instead of the paint I asked for, then proceeded to push me to purchase it anyway. They acted like it was my fault that the wrong thing was mixed. I was asked once if it was stain and I clearly said no, I wanted exterior paint. They did reluctantly mixed the correct paint. Then when paying for my paint and random 5 or 6 little things I had to ask the young girl, who moved slower then molasses, for a bag. Then she didn't ring one item up,that was lying right on the counter with everything else. Ugh!!!! I will never go back. read more

Good selection of hardware, they usually have what I need. However it is next to impossible to use their website for anything useful, to find anything or even to contact them. Also, they have signs up requiring everyone to wear a mask due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and yet three of their employees were not wearing masks. Also several customers were not wearing masks but I get it that it's hard to enforce that policy for customers when your own employees won't set a good example. read more

Not sure what happened on the day that Mark O went to Bensons, but it's one of my favorite local businesses. Around 70% of money spent in a local store stays in that community as opposed to money spent in a big box store which mostly goes straight to corporate headquarters. I've always gotten great service at Bensons and have found the staff to be very knowledgeable about their products. In terms of competitive pricing, I've found some items to be a little more than someplace like Home Depot, but overall the prices seem to be similar. Add that to the fact that it feels like a place "where everybody knows your name", and I know where I'm going to choose to shop over and over again. read more

I hired them to put in hardwood floors, granite counters, new sinks and figures for teh granite coutners in the kitchen and bathroom. I had broken both wrists and could not drive. After the initial consulatation in the store, we did the rest via the phone, email, and internet to set up the purchases, and installations. Just heard back from huscavana and lowes. Bensons lied. They never even tried to get repairs covered. Just lied and tried to extort money out of me. Got all repairs done now fully covered by warranty. Bensons charged 180 in diagnostics for electrical as I told hem water and dirt was coming in head lights. After almost two hindered dollars of research they said the light bulbs were dead and charged me the replace them. Idiots. Had all repairs done by a honest company. Can't say enough bad about the crooks and liers at bensons. read more

This is a review that is coming maybe 45 years after shopping at Benson's. Because, you see, Grant Sr. was one of the icons of town in the 60's and 70's. Grant Jr. and I grew up together. Benson's Hardware was the store to go to. They always had quality products at fair prices. The Bensons were and I am quite sure continue to be solid people dedicated to hard work and ethical business. In this time of pandemic, I hope we all remember the smaller stores. The big box stores are doing just fine. I am in another state now, and I was thinking back to Benson's store this week because I can't get hedge trimmers from the big box store near me (too busy to bring it to the pick up window). It will be stores like the Benson's who will find ways to service their customers as they always have. I used this company to make two keys for my car. The first set didn't work at all, the second set barely worked and the third time they tried wasn't much better, after which I gave up. They charged me something like $7.50 for the two keys, which wasn't cheap, so I expected something better than Home Depot would give me, but I was wrong because Home Depot makes better keys than Benson's anyday! read more

Bought their premium grade pellets for the 2016/2017 winter season. First time buying pellets from Benson's, but the sales guy told me they were very good. Worst pellets I've ever used in all the years I've been buying them. First batch came all soggy and had to be returned. The "good" bags create so much ash and smoke it's not even worth using them. I'm having to clean my ash pans every single day, sometimes multiple times a day. I'll go back to buying them from the Depot. read more

This is the WORSE building company I have ever worked with. I was forced to work through them by my contracted builder. I have a handful of apologies from Bensons that haven't set well with myself. We set up meetings with this company, drove 2 hours to find out that the person went home early to do "errands" without calling us. There were at least a half dozen issues with my kitchen installation (cut outs for appliances, counter too short, wrong materials, wrong sinks,...etc...), interior doors were different along with a wrong counter and sink in the master bath. I couldn't of made this many mistakes if I tried. This place is absolutely awful! Stay away! I will be calling the BBB. read more

I was pushed to use Benson's via my building contractor. they work deals with the contractors naturally to get the flooring, kitchen and bath business. My 2 star reviewing is deceiving because Cheryl in the kitchen department did a very good job designing many iterations of what we feel is a higher end kitchen. She offer creative suggestions and was very quick to respond when we advised her some of the cabinet antique finishes were not to our liking. example, finger prints from in the glaze from the manufacturing. The con's however on the flooring side of the house put a seriously dark cloud on the service. the rep we worked with knew very little about flooring in general and constantly need to fish for answers which took days for a response and never without the cattleprod from ourselves and the builder. We did a custom tiled shower and they handled the installation. To put it politely, there "absolute best tile guy" did a below average job at best. many of the cuts on the wall tile aren't straight. the bull nose is exposed in the neich (spelling?). He even made the major mistake of starting the tile on the floor of the shower so when he got to the ceiling which rarely is exactly straight, we ended up with a final strip of tile that ranges around the shower top from 1 inch to less than a quarter. Not only was the job done poorly but it took him weeks 3 to be exact to tile 1 bathroom shower and walls. I strongly encourage you to look elsewhere for flooring and installation. if you need a kitchen though, Cheryl understands the value of customer service which also was hard to experience on the other side of the building. read more

Rude teen at register in the after noons. Doesn't know anything about the store. Doesn't know customer service at all. However, employees on the floor are great. Very kind and fun to talk with. Paint guy is very nice. Older gentleman that helps on floor was great help. Younger lady that helps customers on the floor is also very nice. The kid with the beard that helped me carry my salt to the car was very kind as well. Also people in the yard are nice. However blonde girl at register is terrible. Avoid her. read more

My doors and windows for my house in 2013 we're done by benson lumber. The rear slider given that understanding it's a cheaper slider was put in all walked out and without a track for the screen. For three years I have tried to either have them sell me what I need to allow the screen to work or give me a price on a new door. No one will get back to me to save anyone's life. The road guy came by several times a bout two years ago said what it needed and then he was a ghost. Stopped returning calls. I was just left with a screen that sits in the door frame and falls out if you push on it .The manager never called me back after speaking with him either. Now three years later still just send info to a different individual with thr tag with their name on the door for the specs . Two reach outs with no response. Being in construction I would never recommend dealing with the support from this company. read more
