I can't stay away from this place and the pozole soup! Friend and I went back to enjoy some soup before the weather starts heating up. I walked in and sat down. The owner came over and mentioned the pozole soup. I guess I do eat it a lot for her to remember me. The usual, and delicious, chips and salsa were served with a separate bowl of salsa for each of us (we do like it a lot). Other than a shrieking 2 year old (that the parents were ignoring) the place was clean and quiet. I ordered the pozole and friend ordered the chicken tortilla soup (with cheese on top). As always, the soups were delicious, hot and flavorful. The pozole has a back-of-the-throat heat that is amazing. I am somewhat obsessed with the soup. We'll go back. read more

Food is really good, and they have good customer service. Prices can get up there, but that's normal everywhere you go nowadays.

We stopped by at 1pm today and enjoyed a great meal. Only reason this experience was not a 5-Star was slow service. I'm not positive but it seemed our waitress was also in the kitchen cooking which meant entrees took over 20-minutes. Local cuisine-homemade salsa and chips were excellent. I have an office right around the corner from the restaurant so I decided to try it one day for lunch. I ordered online from their website. The website confirms the receipt and tells you exactly when you can pick it up. They have a convenient drive thru for pick up orders. I ordered the tacos roja. OMG! The food is tasty. Benny's is based off of Mexico City cuisine. The menu isn't super large the specials are pretty interesting and unique. Service was really friendly and helpful. It's a casual setting and very clean. Parking is easy but the place is off of Grant so the road can be busy depending on the time you swing by. Benny's is one of those places that you drive by all the time and want to stop in because the must be good at a little spot like this. I recently moved into the neighborhood so I figured I'd try it. On A Wednesday morning while running errands I was craving Mexican breakfast. It was very slow, only one other person in the clean dining room with Telemundo on the TV. I was seated and the menu had many breakfast choicee...even pancakes. I munched on the warm fresh chips and salsa. The salsa was fine, almost like Pace, meh. I opted for the chillaquilles in red sauce. It was served with over easy eggs, refried beans and fried potatoes. The plate looked amazing . But looks can be deceiving. I took a bite of the refried beans sprinkled with cotija cheese and ......cold. Like not even close to be warm. So disappointing. The potatoes were tiny tiny. Very bland. The chillaquilles themselves were delicious. Chips cooked and smothered in red sauce were hot and delicious. I mixed them with the over easy eggs and was satisfied. I ended mixing up the beans in there as well as the potatoes. Old school style and using the chips like silverware. If you're Hispanic you know the chips and tortillas are as good as forks and spoons! All in all Benny's was fine. The highlight of the meal was the warm chips. Ill try other items on the menu at some point. I really want local restaurants to thrive but they really have to stand out!! Food was good. We arrived around 10:00 am, and ordered a chicken burrito and enchiladas. The burrito was decent, nothing spectacular albeit I did customize quite heavily (mixed meat/added rice and beans inside), and it came as ordered which is great. Enchiladas were very delicious. They came in an untraditional style. As mini enchilada empanadas with cheese garnishing on top and sides. Would definitely recommend this dish. Service was ok as well. I love this place. I stand by my kudos for the food given in my earlier review. Those were based on lunch and dinner visits. I recently stopped in for breakfast and found their dishes as tasty and enjoyable as their PM offerings. The only drawback is their basket of chips that are served with the AM meals. I generally avoid restaurant tortilla chips at Mexican restaurants. But the chips at Benny's are so good, I can't resist, even first thing in the morning. The restaurant is always kept clean, but still the atmosphere is austere and can have a bit of a 'dive' feel to it. Some of us like that quirky ambiance. But it can be offputting to some. And it would be pity, for the food is genuinely excellent, and o so reasonably priced. A liquor license with little advertising and this spot would be the talk of the town. read more

Love Benny's. Small, super clean diner style restaurant. Stopped by because of an Entertainment coupon and will come back with out one. Had the Enchiladas Potosinas and a side of hard shell ground beef tacos. Excellent all the way around. Tacos have an awesome flavor and lots of extra cheese, onions, cilantro and lettuce to top it off with. The Enchiladas Potosinas are folded red corn shells stuffed with cheese topped with sour cream and cheese and served with lettuce, beans and guacamole. Nice mild flavor for those who like that. Salsa and chips are tasty and too hot for one of my wimpy sons. The waitress personally made a bowl of mild for him. Will be back to try the chile rellenos. read more

Upon taking a seat for lunch, we were greeted and brought a basket of chips worth good salsa. We ordered two shredded beef chimichangas, one for here one to go, and cheese enchiladas for my daughter. The chimi was served with sour cream and guacamole on the side, beef was juicy. It was yummy. My daughters enchilas were also yummy, I thought the enchilada sauce was good. With the to-go order everything was packed up nicely and the sauce came in a separate container which I really appreciate. So the update for this place is awesome! Great food great service and the place is packed! The enchiladas potosinas were awesome and their salsa was actually better than I remembered the first time here. We got complimentary chicken soup and hot chocolate and each of those were friggen great! I guess the only poopy thing is that we're waiting and waiting for a to go box and check but the guy is all alone in a packed house. We're cutting some slack there :) ------------- I'm giving it three stars only because I've only had one item here. They are only two weeks old so the atmosphere seems a little sterile. No artwork on the walls yet, no alcohol yet and the play presentation was pretty boring. I ordered the red chili burrito and the meat was super yummy but the tortilla was just eh. My mom and I were the only two there so service was great and food was speedy but it better be as your only customers. I'll be going back one of these days to try a few more items and I might be able to make a better assessment on the food. I'm hoping for a really nice enchilada. In my opinion, a good Mexican joint has great beans, awesome salsa and amazing tortillas. The other side of that are the enchiladas and their sauce. Enchilada sauce goes a long way and it's often atop burritos so I hope that's good. A fair weather review and hopefully the next one will be much better :) I strongly suggest checking them out, though. Call my review 3 1/2 stars. Not 5 stars because of a mishap with a ketchup bottle that should not have happened in any restaurant. I won't go into details. Dining area was very clean and tidy. Chairs and tables are new or new-ish. I've seen the term austere in another review. This is probably true but not really the best description. Clean and simple is better. Chips are probably made fresh and are very good. Salsa was very good and spicy. Food is very good with ingredients not typical of this area, which is a nice change of pace for sure. I had Horchata which was better than anything else I can remember. They say it's home made, which is hopefully true. It's good. Even the kids quesadilla meal was nice, with nice big french fries. This is my new favorite Mexican place in town. Everything is made fresh including the best chips and salsa in town. Tortilla soup and veggie burro are my go to options. The same staff is there at all hours and they are lovely. It looks like a hole in the wall from the street but atmosphere is nice on inside.
