First and foremost the wines are excellent. Definitely come and taste. I am in the wine club and I recommend joining it highly. They do provide almonds and chocolate with the wines. The employees are incredible. They really know the wines and can recommend things to do in the area. I always look forward to coming back! read more

Are you looking for a good entry- to mid-level wine experience? Go to Bennett, just off the square, and look for Liliana. She's unpretentious and curious, keeps the almonds flowing, and will let you sample absolutely everything on the menu. My tasting consisted of six wines total - two Chardonnays, a Pinot, another red, a sparkling white, and another that slips my mind - and the progression was excellent. The wines, although young, showed balance and great fruit. Liliana and I struck up a great conversation, and indeed, the three other groups that streamed in while I was there all quickly made a connection to the wines. Wine drinking is supposed to be a convivial activity, so I was really glad that I took a chance on this place (it was empty when I walked in). I enjoyed these enough to order a half-dozen wines to ship back to me at home, and am looking forward to seeing whether they develop wines with more aging potential. read more

We had the best impromptu tasting here with Nancy! She was so wonderful and easy to talk to and was so knowledgeable about wine. Between the three of us we drank the Pinot, buttery Chardonnay, and the sparkling wine. All were delicious highly reccomend! read more

Sad to say this was our first tasting in Sonoma and it was not a good experience. We had a reservation and when we arrived it was empty. Nancy was nice at first and very attentive. She then started answering her personal phone and got distracted. Between the first two wines we tasted two other couples came in, sat at the bar and we were completely ignored. She shared wines with the other couples, talked with them. She would then come to us and pour some more samples but did not engage with us. She even tried to encourage us not to buy one of the wines we sampled. First sampling experience; awful. read more

Opened here, just 1/2 block off the Sonoma plaza, October 2014. This is the former location of Chanticleer books. Bennett Valley cellars makes just 4 wines. 2 Chardonnay and 2 pinot noir. To taste all the cost is $10. Buy more than $30 of wine and the tasting fee is waived. The wines are good quality. They have the fruit forward style that I enjoy. The lower priced pinot noir, $24 (my favorite here) is brightly colored, has a nose full of cherry-berry, mild tannins, and a bright flavor. Currently selling the 2012 vintage. It's still young in the bottle. We let the wine sit in the glass 30 minutes while we blabbed (It was a very slow day, we were the only visitors during a 75 minute visit). The pinot opened up nicely, very enjoyable. Tasting room is small. Putting more than 12 people in there would be a crowd. We met the nicest server. She was knowledgeable, smart, a world traveler, & entertaining. No wine club membership plan. read more

May be the best sparkling cuvée I've ever had. Not to say that they're Chardonnays and Pinots are just incredible. If you can't grow great grapes in theBennett Valley you have to get out of the business but the winemaker is just unbelievable here. read more

Wow, what an absolutely disappointing experience. I didn't catch the name of the lady pouring (late 50s or early 60s and easily baffled) but she was in no way as inviting or knowledgeable as the people mentioned in previous reviews, granted most of the views are fairly old. My husband and I came in to do a tasting each. However, when I explained that I am allergic to reds and could not do the last two reds on the tasting, I asked if I could just do a repeat of two of the whites. It literally blew her mind to even think about this request. I had to explain it a couple of times and I think she still struggled to process my question/request. She gave me some kind of excuse about measuring the inventory. Trust me, her pours were so minute and stingy (compared to every other accommodating tasting room we went to over the weekend) that the few drops she might have poured would not have been missed. Instead of walking out like we should have done, my husband and I just shared one tasting instead of the 2 we originally intended. It's funny, when we got to the red portion that I could not drink the amount she poured almost doubled. (Passive aggressive??) It was still smaller than every other tasting room but I would never go back and never recommend this company to anyone. There are too many other options with equally good or better tasting wines that have competent people in the tasting room. Bennett Vally, service is everything and sadly you failed to deliver. read more

An interesting diversification between French style and California style Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Both styles are quite tasty in their own realms. My favorite is the California style 2014 Chardonnay and the French style bin 6410 Pinot Noir. Their Cuvée marina sparkling wine is crisp and clear with a taste of green apple and honey. I'm somewhat familiar with the geography and climate of the Bennett Valley. It's my pick of the places to be "discovered" for chardonnay and pinot in the next few years. Okay, so Matanzas Creek has the BV firmly on the map already, and they do a good job with sauvignon blanc in particular. But BVC has stepped up to offer the valley's Burgundian style wines to Joe Public sans appointment, although you have to go to downtown Sonoma for the experience. It's worth it. The wines are all balanced, minimal or no oak, plenty of terroir on offer in the pinots especially. The winemaker is an Aussie, apparently. Her taste is definitely on the European side and for me it works quite well. Everything from the label to the nose to the finish is approachable. No pretense here, just solid, well-rounded wines at a decent price. Personally I wish there was more information on the vineyards themselves available in the tasting room, but that's because I know the valley and I'm curious to see how the hot, dry years in the BV compare to the better-known local regions for pinot/chard, such as Carneros and the Anderson Valley. For the price, the wines of BVC could be a good option. If they can hold on to their current winemaker then the next few years will be interesting. Get in before the crowd! read more
