They told me Bennett Shellfish is a local, family-run seafood spot and, although it isn't a traditional sit-down restaurant, it's the place to go for a fresh lobster roll. It was less than a 10-minute drive from where we were staying, and going there was the best decision! They were offering two lobster rolls for $41, and they were worth every penny. Each roll was generously filled with large chunks of fresh lobster, a little diced celery, and just the right amount of mayo. They weren't overly dressed or packed with unnecessary fillers--the lobster was definitely the star. One roll filled me up, so I packed the second one in a cooler and brought it home to my dad in Nassau County. He loved it and gave it a 5/5 too! They also sell baked goods, and the chocolate chip cookies were delicious. Just keep in mind that there is no seating and you cannot eat on the premises because it's an active driveway. Finally had the chance to give Bennett Shellfish a try after seeing it all over social media. As others have said here and on the Gram, this is run out of a couple's actual home and as such, there are (understandably) rules to follow. You'll pull into their driveway and ring the bell as indicated. Once we did, there were signs all over about not eating here which, again, understandable, we're in your home. Ambiance is very much to-go counter. We entered to a stressed out lady behind the counter who yelled out "it's cash only!" which I'm guessing has been an issue despite all the very clear signage. Her husband was having some breakfast at the counter and immediately told us that he knew he was breaking "the rules" (dude it's your literal home do what you want). We ordered two lobster rolls as well as clams on the half shell - the total came to $49 which is a steal here compared to other spots. The clams were extremely fresh (just shucked, to the point where there was juice everywhere in this paper container with no top which is great if you can eat it sitting down at a table somewhere...not great if you know you need to GTFO and drive somewhere in your car with it). I saw another couple take their lobster rolls to go and even though the buns were packaged separately, the lobster salad was piled into the same flimsy paper container with no lid. If you don't want people to eat in your house (or driveway), serve these things in actual to-go containers. If you're coming here I would honestly bring your own Tupperware because now my car smells like clam juice. But I guess that's the price you pay for quality seafood and an affordable price out in Montauk. read more

Wow!!! On a daytrip to Montauk this week, we took advantage of Bennett Shellfish's amazing deal of 2 for $40 lobster rolls. The lobster was perfectly fresh, sweet and ample, and the price cannot be beat. I love supporting a business like this, too from local fisherfolk. Its cool how they run it right out of their house, at a side entrance. The little shop was super clean, the owners friendly. Also scored some amazing homemade cookies and good drinks. The lobster rolls were very good but the service was so odd and unpleasant. We asked them if there was a beach they recommended to bring our food to eat and they rudely said we could figure it out. They have a whole menu but were only selling 3 things the day we went, which was fine. They also offered us a $10 size of the smoked trout (also very tasty) but it was the size of a condiment. Visited the Hamptons for the 1st time & my friends decided that we wanted lobster rolls. We were unsure about the entrance because we didn't know that it was a literal building that look like a house. I really appreciated the fact that they had a 2 for $30 deal, which is very cheap (especially in the Hamptons area) compared to most places that sell lobster rolls for that price or more for just one lobster roll. I decided that I couldn't wait anymore and I want to take a bite of the lobster roll just to see how it tasted. I must say it might have been the BEST lobster roll I've ever had in my life. The owner of the shop told us that the recipe has been her family for generations, and it definitely tasted that way! I love how incredibly juicy and plentiful the lobsters were on the lobster rolls. I know there's a battle between putting butter on the lobster rolls versus using a mayo base spread. Though I prefer both, there was something especially unique about the based used to flavor the lobster rolls. I think I'm more upset that I didn't buy more. Bennet shellfish is a small store out of a family home with fresh seafood to go. We visited on a Saturday afternoon, and were able to enter to place our order immediately. We were greeted by the owners and they were super friendly! They answered all the questions we had, and gave us samples to try. We got the lobster pie and some oysters. The Lobster Pie took about 20-25 minutes to prepare -- you just brush some melted butter on top of the pie and place it in the oven, and you are good to go! The pie was creamy and yummy, and the oysters were super fresh too! Their menu apparently changes everyday, so would return to try other menu items when back in Montauk! read more
