We were in the area and my friend C, suggested on having sushi. She has been here before and I had this place bookmarked for a long time. We came to the restuarant on a Thursday. The place was not very busy. We got a seat that is not close to the window (which was perfect because it was super hot that day). I ordered the sashimi combo for $18 before tax. That was a good deal and portion size was great. It came with tempura, dynamite rolls, 5 pieces of sashimi, 3 pieces of nigiri, miso soup and desserts. The sashmi were cut nice and thick. Everything in the bento box were fresh. I was super full after the meal. I really enjoyed my meal and for sure I will be back again. This sushi restaurant is not the fancy Japanese restaurant where you will find omakase. It is more of a local Japanese restaurant ran by a Korean family. read more

Last minute decision to get sushi so ordered the house bento and dynamite roll. Was told to come right away and I live close so it was t ready, had to wait 5-10 minutes. Service was pleasant and looking at others orders at the table, was anticipating my dinner. It was a big spread of food and tasted delish! Really liked the chicken karage and dynamite roll but it all tasted good. The only critique would be that that sweet potato tempura was a bit undercooked. Service is good, the server advised me to sit further in as it will be hotter near the entrance due to the sunlight streaming in. That is an appreciated advice, especially for the hot summer weather here. I decided on the sashimi lunch bento, as well as a negitoro maki roll as I was hungry and thought the bento portion may be quite the typical size. I was wrong. The bento did not come in the usual bento box. Instead the items were served separately. The sashimi came separately on a plate. Pretty fresh and of a decent size. Miso soup was normal. The main plate was huge, with a generous serving of tempura (very nicely done, and not oily), beef teriyaki and salad with rice. The negitoro maki roll was comparatively puny. It was ok, but not something memorable. I found it surprising that more people came in after 2 pm as the restaurant closed at 3 pm for the mid afternoon break before opening again for the dinner rush. They have a substantial menu with a good mix of sushi, sashimi and the noodle, rice and cooked items. A recommended place for Japanese food in Aldergrove. read more

Another great meal at Benky! Dinner set, spicy age dashi tofu, deep fried cali roll, and spicy tuna roll. Great, attentive service as usual. Well paced service, with tea refills as needed. The food was fantastic. Not overly sweet teriyaki sauce on tender chicken, crispy, spicy tofu, crispy deep fried cali tasty and not oily. Their tempura is generous, lightly battered and not greasy. Miso - Mr. Dave loves it. Sunamono - sweet, vinegary citrusy- so refreshing. Our town has several sushi places, but I love the atmosphere, the cleanliness, the attentive service. Living in Richmond I have access to a TON of sushi places, but any time I go anywhere remotely near Aldergrove, I make a point of stopping at Benkey. Seriously they are the best I've ever had by far. It's one of the few places I've found where the entire front line staff is Japanese, where the quality and care put into the food is phenomenal, and where presentation is as fabulous as the taste. The tea's unusual in that it's not your typical sencha and it is much better suited to sushi, not having the bitter graininess of the commonly used teas. We usually have some of the sashimi or nigiri - the bf always has unagi there which I find amazing and I am not an eel-eater usually. I always love the Philladelphia roll (cream cheese mmmmmmm) and last time we tried the salmon and avocado roll which was perfectly balanced. We always make sure to get some deep fried California rolls because you just can't eat the regular ones after trying their version of deep fried....it's just not the same anymore! And we save the Las Vegas roll for last. Honestly that is the taste you want to sit in your mouth for hours afterwards. The sauces they put on it with the ingredients and the way they lightly deep fry it...you can't help but savour the flavours for as long as possible. When we have stopped by later at night they've surprised us with little treats like specially stuffed mushroom caps (which were entirely handed over to the bf because i won't eat those slimy things though I fully appreciated the gesture), or one time we got amazing little scallops topped with two different brightly coloured tobiko mounds (red and yellow). the service is friendly and the food is to die for. As Asian as Vancouver/Richmond has become - no sushi there can compare to Benkey. read more

The food: I ordered miso soup, green salad, avocado roll, and a veggie roll. The miso soup was great, plenty of tofu and green onions. Then my sushi came, and though the portions were huge, the rice was really warm, and the rolls fell apart easily. I didn't detect any vinegar in the sushi rice at all. The avocado was just a slice of avocado, without any real attention to texture. As you can tell, I eat a lot of sushi in the area. I'm not a novice who just went for her first sushi. Now, the green salad. I wondered for a long time where it was. I figured they'd forgotten it because I'd had my sushi plate cleared away a long time, and was feeling kind of sick from the warm sushi. They served this skinny plate with no room to really dig in, and it was well after I was at all hungry. They apologized that they forgot the salad, but didnt give me the option to reject it before billing me. I ate one bite after checking that the orange in the dressing was not roe, but ground carrot. I prefer more of a ginger base, and the bite I had was bitter. Oh well. The place: great seating, and a nice feel inside. The service: pretty decent for a bustling after church rush. I prefer Kami, the tiny sushi joint over by Save-On. Won't be back, sorry. read more

Visiting family in Aldergrove, they took us to this place for dinner. Delicious food, kind of run of the mill stuff. I won't be driving from Surrey to Aldergrove for it but it's a great option if you're in the neighborhood! We had sunomono, spicy tofu, tuna and salmon sashimi (appetizer), Philadelphia roll, and negitoro roll. The tofu was the highlight! Won't hesitate to visit again. read more

Honestly, this is authentic Japanese, beautiful presentation, excellent wait staff and the food is very, very well done. I didn't like sushi until Benkey. Now I can't get enough. That aside, it's the level of quality and attention every time in every order that makes it a quality place. I've been to a number of Sushi restaurants, mostly Abbotsford to Langley, and to be honest not all of them are up to the same standard of presentation, taste, and quality. I first tried Benky Sushi because of a friend and I must say I was impressed. I ate, here again, to give it a try and I was still impressed. The tempura was light, flaky and flavourful without being greasy. I could tell each vegetable I was eating. :) I ordered the chopped scallop roll and Dynamite Roll. The Chopped Scallop roll was slightly sweet in flavour and the topiko added a wonderfully salty flavour and crunchy texture. The rice was wonderfully seasoned and everything married well together. The Dynamite roll was delicious as well, but the Chopped Scallop roll was the winner. The sashimi was melt in your mouth and full of flavour as well. The decor was wonderful as well. We sat at the table right by the door, there was a divider to give us privacy and it worked. I didn't spend much time looking at the image on the divider, but I believe that it may have been some type of tree with thin branches. The service was wonderful. The lady that helped us was friendly and helpful. We even got a complimentary dish on the house. It was a tempura deep fried potatoes( I think) with spicy sauce and Wasabi cream sauce(pretty sure) Overall, this is one of my top three sushi place to eat at. read more

We order from Benkey at least once a week, sometimes twice. I eat A LOT of sushi and Benkey's is super fresh and delicious. They are so good with subbing and even have created a whole different roll for me with ingredients of my choice, whatever I happened to be craving. And the prices are very fair.
