Our family celebrated our granddaughter's birthday at Benihana. The meals were all wonderful, beautifully prepared and tasted great! After the family goodbye hugs we left. When home, I realized one of my earrings had fallen off. I called Benihana and described my earring to them. They searched inside and outside, and found the earring in the parking lot. Went to Benihana's Friday evening with the wife unit, adult children, and 2-year old grandson. We were seated promptly, place was clean. Foodserver was pleasant and fairly fast. The chef was personable without being overboard, and put on a fairly good/brief show. Food was very tasty; although I did not like the soup. Almost tasted as if it had bacon in it. Salad was small, kind of an interesting sauce instead of dressing. All very good. I will say there were six of us; and I did not look at the detailed bill. Most likely it had an imputed gratuity of 18%, since the tab was a bit pricey. I did not think of asking; so I tipped 20% as well. We were there for happy hours and it was definitely an experience of a lifetime. The service was not great and the food was absolutely disappointing. We ordered the wings - it was dry and the flavor profile was one noted - salty. The sushi was not fresh, I feel like they added extra chili oil to cover the fowl odor of the fish. It was 64° in the dining area (see photo), and we were genuinely cold the entire time. We asked about it and were told the thermostat is controlled remotely and couldn't be adjusted. Even staff mentioned it's tough working in those conditions. Other tables were complaining too! When both customers and employees are uncomfortable, it takes away from the whole experience. Came for a birthday dinner with a large group. Luckily we had reservations because the place was packed. Not our first time so ordering our meals went quick. Personally, went with steak and lobster. Our teppanyaki chef was very friendly and entertaining the entire time. We got all the usual egg/food tosses, volcano fire, and fried rice heart throbs haha. Stick to what works right? Finally I held my water glass up in the air for ( no exaggeration) 3 minutes until a server from another table says can I refill your water. I paid a full price and got horrible service. Epic fail. We came here for dinner on Christmas night as a party of three and had a 6:45 PM reservation. They were running about 30 minutes behind, so we didn't get seated until around 7:20 PM. It was very busy, which is understandable for a holiday. Once we were seated, things moved pretty smoothly. The wait to order and receive our food wasn't long at all. Our server, Ambiance, was excellent--very attentive, friendly, and on top of everything despite how busy the restaurant was. The inside is big and spacious, so it didn't feel overly crowded. We enjoyed our meals, and my seafood was prepared well and tasted great. If you cannot, accomodate that large of a party and your regular reservations, then don't. Then, we didn't get a server to our table until 9:34p to take our drinks order. It is now 9:49p and we still do not have our drinks. No chef has set up at our grill, either. The other guests have left our table. 9:52p: Soda and water has arrived, but my children's Ramune has not. Order FINALLY taken. 10:02p: Still no salad or soup. No chef has set up yet 10:11p: Salad has arrived and warm, almost room temp soup. No chef. 10:15p: Have inquired (again!) about chef. Told 3 mins by Camry (who is doing her best with little to no support. 10:20p: Chef Robert is here. He's very funny & personable. 10:25p-10:59p: Chef Robert is the highlight of the night. James the chef was great! He was super friendly and his jokes were funny too! Our server was great too, i did not catch her name but she was very sweet and attentive. Love this place! Came in for all day happy hour as and manager John at the bar was so kind and wonderful! Great service with a smile. He went above and beyond to make sure I had a great experience. I enjoyed a side soup, salad, edamame, salmon and avocado roll add cream cheese and an edamame. Extra shoutout to server Camry who was hard at work and such a sweet helpful presence! What's not to love about dinner and a show? I've only been to Benihana on one other occasion, but my most recent visit to this location solidified this as a solid spot for a larger family meal! I will say that the service here is pretty dang slow. We had a reservation, and ended up waiting around 40 minutes past our arrival time for a table. Once we were finally seated, it took another 20+ minutes for our hibachi chef to arrive. I'm all for giving restaurants the benefit of the doubt, especially during the very busy holiday season, but this was a pretty substantial wait. From reading other reviews, it sounds like this is sadly the norm at this location. Even still, here's my advice: have a snack before you arrive and be patient ... the food really is worth the wait! Our hibachi chef was Tony, and he was a hoot! Just the right amount of funny and engaging while cooking up golden fried rice, saucy teriyaki chicken, perfectly cooked steak, and their signature shrimp and vegetable appetizers. My fiancé and I went last night for dinner, and we had a wonderful time. The hosts were very friendly, we were sat at a Tenpan table very quickly, and a manager named Tony sat us and explained the experience and was very funny. Our server, Tyree, was nice and super on everything. He took our orders, explained a special, and kept our drinks full. We ate a few different things but unfortunately I kept forgetting to take pictures cause I was hungry. The restaurant was lively and fun, and very clean which is a feat - it was so busy. Oh! We had really high expectations because it's been a while since we've been to a Benihana's. The last one I went to was in Chandler with my family and we had a really good time, but it was the five years ago. I assumed since this one was in Scottsdale, it would be even nicer than the one in Chandler. I was very surprised at the condition of this location. It looked like it hadn't been remodeled for at least 20 years, the atmosphere was very dated dusty and looked like they hadn't invested anything in years. Even the cook came to start cooking his white coat looked like it was gray severely stained. Definitely no pride. The people at the table all complained about the steak and the condition the food quality. The waitress provided drinks to only half the table and left us waiting for nearly 20 minutes, even to get our water. A couple next to us indicated they had been there before and they were giving it a second chance because the first time they went, it was really horrible service. I made a reservation for 4 on Thanksgiving and when we got there we still had to wait about 30 minutes before being seated. The reason we were given for the wait when we were checking in, was that the party at the table they needed to sit us at were visiting. They already ate and paid, but they were sitting there talking. I feel when it comes to holidays management should be able to move people along after a certain amount of time once everything is paid and done. Once we were seated the male employee who told us he was some sort manager, maybe front of the house or guest relations I don't recall, told us we were a party of 5 not 4 and that is a problem. We had our baby with us and I was carrying him. The manager assumed he would need a high chair and brought us one after telling us rudely that it was a problem we were 5 people. I had to tell the waitress to take it away because we did not need it. He could've asked age or if we would even need a high chair which would've saved him running around to grab one and bring it to the table. 1st off our 5th is a baby who does not even sit up on his own yet he just turned 5 months. He is a big baby but you could tell he is a baby. 2nd, he doesn't even eat food because he's too young! I was holding him the whole time and planned on it since I didn't feel a stroller would work in this situation. Other than those first interactions, the food and chef Tony were great. We were there celebrating my son's 6th bday and the chef did great with the table and our kids. The food was delicious as well. We have been coming to this location for years and tonight was the best experience yet! We arrived early to get a drink at the bar, where Emmanuel took excellent care of us and made us feel welcome. We were shown to our table at the time of our reservation and our waitress was friendly and prompt. Then our super awesome chef (Gabriel, I think) cooked our food beautifully, entertained us, and even helped us celebrate my husband's birthday. We all left with full bellies and happy spirits. So I'm very torn on this establishment. It's very kid friendly & can be fun with a good Hibachi chef & group. Unfortunately that was NOT our experience. As Yelp Elite (for many years) I review good & not so good places. We decided to do something different this last Friday for dinner. We arrived around 7 & was sat by 7:30. No reservation needed. We had never been to a "chain" restaurant like this. We wanted to do their Hibachi experience. Our table was 7 people. Our Hibachi chefs was "Tim" We ordered a cocktail (wine & a pumpkin side car) At that time we ordered a sushi roll (specifying we wanted it as an appetizer) The waitress (Alexandria) left to place orders. Our table sat silent for 10-15 minuets. Then we placed our main dish order. I ordered the filet mignon medallions with mushrooms, and my friend ordered the Emperor's feast (filet & chicken) we both got fried rice, which is an up charge. The Hibachi chef returned only to leave again for 10mins. We received the miso soup (terrible) Still waiting on our drinks & app to be delivered. The whole experience was a complete FLOP. Nobody could hear the hibachi chef, because it was so loud in there, our main dishes were done before even getting our sushi roll (We had to ask the waitress AGAIN about) You could tell the hibachi chef did not like his job. He wasn't friendly at all, and had a scowl on his face almost the entire time. We were not the only patrons that noticed. The hibachi fried rice was flavorless, and my FILET MINION was overcooked, even asking for it to be medium rare. Our drinks finally came 30mins after ordering. The sushi roll was delicious. THE ONLY GOOD TAKE AWAY FROM THAT ESTABLISHMENT WAS THE PUMPKIN PURÉE SIDECAR DRINK, AND THE SUSHI ROLL WE ORDERED. $180 for 2 people w/o tip was insane. The pumpkin side car (4oz pour) was $17. He ruined the vibe of the dinner by being too intrusive. He was very awkward and clumsy and broke his utensil on the grill. He seemed high on drugs and kept saying how sleep deprived he was. He burned our overly priced steak and seafood. He even said "wow this is totally dried out" The portions were very very small and the food was burned and bland. Our reservation was scheduled for 6:15 PM, yet we--along with at least six other parties--were not seated until 6:45 PM. This is particularly unacceptable given that our party included a two-year-old and a newborn, which is precisely why we booked an early reservation. When I finally requested a manager, her response was dismissive and entirely lacking empathy. She cited "an event in town" and claimed the restaurant was not overbooked--despite clear evidence to the contrary. There was no attempt at resolution, no proactive communication, and no basic customer service effort. After being seated at 6:45 PM, we placed our order promptly. We did not see a chef until 8:07 PM--over one hour and fifteen minutes after sitting down. During that entire time, no manager came to our table, no explanation was offered, and no corrective action was taken. Our server, who was clearly uncomfortable and embarrassed, was left to shoulder the responsibility alone. Multiple tables around us became visibly frustrated. One party directly across from us left due to the same delays. Our server later informed us that they were the fourth table to leave that evening. We personally witnessed additional tables get up, complain, and exit. At one point, we even warned a neighboring table about the situation--shortly thereafter, they left as well, audibly upset. What makes this experience even more alarming is that multiple employees, including chefs, openly stated that the situation was caused by poor staffing decisions and overbooking--both of which were attributed to the manager on duty. Several employees indicated that she was avoiding the dining room entirely, unwilling to address guests, distribute appetizers, offer drinks, or provide any form of compensation or apology. That level of avoidance, especially when guests are actively leaving, is indefensible. We also overheard staff complaining repeatedly about the same manager, and one table was told by a chef that the restaurant had run out of rice, further underscoring the lack of preparation and leadership. Ultimately, my children never ate, and neither did my wife nor I. Our friends who remained later told us that key parts of the meal they were entitled to were never served. This was not an isolated inconvenience--it was a systemic breakdown. Benihana should be deeply embarrassed by how this location is being run. The absence of accountability, leadership, and basic hospitality was staggering. A manager who refuses to acknowledge guests, accept responsibility, or attempt to make things right has no business running a restaurant. I will actively advise anyone I know in the Scottsdale area to avoid this location entirely. I strongly urge corporate leadership to take this complaint seriously, investigate thoroughly, and understand how profoundly damaging this experience was--not just to your guests, but to your brand. read more

Since discovering a new gluten sensitivity, our family has really searched for restaurants that cater to specific diets. This one definitely did. So we were all able, gluten sensitive and not, to enjoy a delicious meal. Our chef, Isaiah, was fantastic. The food was prepared skillfully and to order. Our server didn't let a drink empty either.
