We dined at Benihana Plano this evening and were pleasantly surprised. We shared table 5 with 3 other people from 7 till 8 pm and had a great time. We were immediately seated and our server, Si, took our drink orders and made sure that we had plenty to drink all evening. She was totally delightful and she looked like she genuinely enjoys her job. Our chef, insert name here, was also friendly, chatty and clever. He had all of the skills to entertain and amaze us while cooking our meals to perfection. Si brought our salads and soup, which were delicious. She made us feel special with ice cream for my wife's birthday and a photograph to remember the occasion. I ordered teriyaki chicken and, of course, chicken fried rice. Both were excellent, as well as the servings of zucchini, shrimp, mushrooms and onion that went with it. I didn't order the files mignon, because of a disappointment from a previous visit, but another diner at our table ordered it and it looked like a better cut of meat to my well trained eyes. I might have to give it another try next time. read more

Ugh. Super bummed to leave this review. Truly. I had high hopes for tonight because we've been there before and had excellent service. I chose this for my birthday dinner. We made reservations but noticed there were still plenty of earlier reservations available so we showed up and asked if we could just eat earlier. The restaurant was NOT busy. Many tables completely open and some tables less than half full. We were seated immediately which was great. We were seated with a sweet little family also celebrating a birthday. They had a little one with them and he seemed to enjoy the atmosphere. The server promptly came over and took our drink requests. Off to a great start! Or so I thought. She brought our drinks and took out dinner requests and then basically disappeared. We didn't get a refill until the end of our dinner experience and that was after we asked for refills. Not impressed at all given it wasn't even busy. However, my main issue is with the chef, the food, and the lack of entertainment you'd expect coming to Benihana. The chef prioritized the small child and did an onion train but outside of that - no excitement, no fun, no entertainment. Literally, just banged his spatula around and looked bored. The chicken was wayyy overcooked. It was rubbery and hard. Almost no flavor. I asked for spicy chicken and it wasn't spicy at all. You pay extra for the spice btw. The shrimp appetizer was served LAST! How is an appetizer served last? We've been several times before and that was one of the first food items you received after the soup and salad. The rice was bland. So disappointing. I was looking for a special experience with great food and all of it felt like an after thought. This place is EXPENSIVE! and we were treated like it was a McDonalds. Speaking of the meal, the meal we selected was supposed to come with green tea. We were never offered green tea. I expected it to come after the meal and was never offered. By that time, I was ready to just go. The only positive is - my son said his steak was good. ‍ I probably won't choose this place again for my annual birthday dinner. I'll go to the Melting Pot or somewhere else. To the owners: next time you ask if someone is here to celebrate, maybe actually take time to celebrate them. While I don't mind sharing focus with a toddler, it wasn't the toddlers birthday AND you had two birthday people at the table. read more

I made a reservation through resy in order to use my Amex credit for Saturday night 2 ppl at 6:45 pm. The only reservation slots left when I booked in the morning were 6:45 or past 9 pm. We ended up being 10 minutes late but fortunately they were still able to accommodate us. They said we had to wait about 10 mins for a table to open up. We sat in the waiting area and it was extremely crowded! It seems like it was the same day as prom. We got seated next to a party of 4 that was celebrating their birthday. The chef was mostly interacting with their family with the jokes and tricks and ignoring mine which was a bit heartbreaking because even though it wasn't our birthday we still paid. It felt like I was on the outside of the greatest inside joke and my family was invisible. It was actually my first restaurant meal to celebrate my moving to Texas so it was even more disappointing the chef didn't even bother to look in our direction yet was constantly looking at the other family. I ordered the chili shrimp roll for appetizer which was really good especially because the chef takes a really long time to come out and I was starving. We ate the fried rice, squid, scallops and more and it was really delicious. I got a to go box which filled me up for the next day as well. read more

We've been here many times in the past but this was one of our best experiences. I had made a reservation action and we were seated as soon as we arrived. Our server was so sweet she got our drink orders quickly and then took our food orders. Our salad and soup were excellent. The chef arrived and he was very entertaining. He was friendly funny and did all the fun extras that you expect. I had the ahi he cooked it perfectly seared. I hadn't ordered fish here before but will for sure order it again. I was celebrating my birthday and enjoyed them singing to me after getting me the green tea ice cream. They even took our picture and gave it to us in a little frame-been a long time since they'd added that fun souvenir. read more

Came here to celebrate my uncle's birthday on a Sunday. It wasn't too crowded when we had. We made a reservation, however, one of the members of our party was running behind, so we couldn't be seated until they arrived, which makes total sense, since they cook everything at once in front of you. The hosts and bartender were great, while we all waited in the bar area until we could be seated. My dad wanted to play a little joke on my sister (the one that was running late), and he was totally on board! I love that he had such a great attitude to join in on some family fun to joke on the last to arrive having to pay the bill for everyone! Anywho, once we were all there, we were seated and off to the races, we were HUNGRY!!! Our server greeted us pretty quickly and took our drink order. I think he may have gotten double sat, it did take a little while to get our drinks back, but 2 8 tops back to back is a hard feat, IYKYK!!! Anywho, when our drinks came back, we ordered our food, some folks had some questions, and he was super patient with answering all the questions, and making some recommendations based on what they were wanting. Soon after, our chef came out to a full table and ready to cook. He was a pretty quiet chef compared to some of the other chefs around, so that was a little on the underwhelming side, especially sine it was a birthday! We were all excited to be there, and we may have been a little to much for him in terms of volume of conversation and laughter! The food was really good. He cooked everything to perfection, the steak, the shrimp, chicken, fried rice, ahi tuna, and all the veggies! You can never go wrong with the food here. Love this location too, as it's in heart of Legacy West and easily walkable to parking and other bars and resturants! read more

Dinner was superb... hadn't been to this location in a few years and actually hadn't eaten Benihana in over a year. Oh well it brought back all the good memories. Food was amazing, waitresses pleasant and cook was the highlight of the evening. Ambiance loud with laughter and ppl having a good time enjoying the chef's show. 10 out of 10 for food and drinks . I give it 4 stars due to the price increase on everything across the menu.... Like OMG if you ask for extra sauce at the table they imply they have to send for it in the back they no longer have just sauces on the cart if you didn't order that off the menu for example if you decide you want teriyaki sauce added in the mist of them cooking it's an additional charge. That was pretty weird to me , but hey overall great food . Pricey but still worth it. I will be back and you should go as well.. check them out you may get a chef that will give you some sauce with no issue read more

Reservations: We originally had 13 people, but we found out tables hold 10 - so we would have to split our party into two tables of 6 and 7. And at 6p on a Saturday night couldn't guarantee tables next to each other. We were so grateful they warned us, so we shrunk our guest list to accommodate 10 so we could all sit together. Special Occasion: we discussed our surprise birthday needs with reservations. They assured us 8 of us could be seated then the surprise guests would be shown to the table. All we had to do was arrive 15 minutes early. Host: 8 of us showed up early and were refused seating due to an incomplete party. When we explained the surprise, that reservations had advised otherwise, they didn't care. They said reservations was wrong and stated they were too busy to accommodate incomplete parties. 5 minutes later, the birthday guests arrived - so we had to yell "surprise" while we were standing in the lobby. We waited another 20-25 minutes while group after group was seated for their tables before us. We were seated at 6:25 for a 6:00 reservation. Seating: we were in a corner in the back of the restaurant at a hibachi station. The smoke had collected so badly into the corner, before our cook even started, that there was a thick haze due to poor ventilation. It was also VERY hot in there. All of us were sweating just seated at the table. It's so hot in Texas, at first we thought it was just that, but it never cooled down. It was over 80° just sitting there. Table size - 10 people especially adults DO NOT FIT comfortably at their hibachi tables. I happened to be on a corner and had to scoot back 18" from the table (because knees to me left and right - no fault of my neighbors) and hold my food in my lap to eat. So did the other corner. 8 people would still be cramped but manageable. Sake flight: three sweet, cold sake flavors. The creamy was terrible, the others were very good. Salad: the ginger dressing has historically been a favorite. With the menu change, I think they need to relook at the "new" dressing, which below average flavor (ginger still there, missing any other flavor) - but it has a horrible, baby food texture. Hibachi: it's always fun. Our cook (Edgar) just cooked his routine. He wasn't engaging and personable. He was all business about cooking. Most everything tasted pretty normal and good, except the filet. It was medium and very chewy. The rest was all good. Birthday dessert: the birthday boy was brought a small bowl of ice cream and two people came to play a tambourine and sing. That was thoughtful. But I had to go seek that out. Neither the reservation maker nor the host - both of whom I advised about this being a 60th birthday party had taken care to address the birthday. Overall: Gone are the days of Benihana's hay day. I guess I am old. When I was a child, going to Benihana was "an experience" worthy of time and hard earned money spent, because everything was engaging and meaningful. We didn't get any of that. Our ticket was well over $1,000 before tax and gratuity. Sadly, given the numerous below average events, we won't be back. It never did cool off in there. Funny enough, when we went to valet after to get our cars, the breeze outside felt cooler than inside. Go figure. :) read more

Made a reservation for 730 there and we waited for over an hour. The staff at the bar were nice and very apologetic, but the manager and the front room greeting staff were about as terrible as I have ever experienced anywhere. Why even bother to offer reservations if you are not capable of honoring them? We wasted an hour, after being told for 30 minutes we were next, and finally decided to leave. read more

11/11/25: We went for dinner, and I'm glad that we had reservations. The restaurant was pretty busy, and we had about a 15 minute wait. The décor was pretty nice, although there was limited seating in the waiting area. Once we were seated, we had a great time. The chef was friendly and entertaining. The food was great, the beer was cold, and the deserts were pretty good. There is a parking garage down the block, and very limited street parking. read more

Looks like there's nothing but one star reviews which is a shame it used to be quite a nice place. My experience was not that uncommon from everyone else else's when it comes to the food in the service in the ambience. In the future instead of coming to this location with all the problem that they have including the bathroom that smell smells worse than any barn that I was ever in. God knows what the kitchen I'll be choosing an authentic local location has to be better than this. Instead of replying back with a cut and paste reply which I don't know if they're really thinking about this maybe they could actually fix the problems shut down for a few weeks retrain rehash. This is a legacy east in the most beautiful part of it it should be the crown jewel of all of their locations read more

I've never had hibachi before and while I was in town, I really wanted to try. Benihana was the first place that popped into my mind and for good reason, so we decided to come here. We got a teppenyaki table for our group of 4 and shared it with 2 others. We came for lunch on the 4th of July and were told that they don't have lunch specials on holidays, however they did let us split regular entrees among 4 people. The portion sizes here are HUGE, so we split 2 entrees among 4 people and it was enough to feel satisfied but not super full. The entrees that we ordered came with salad/soup and dessert/tea. The salad and soup were pretty mid and not good quality, and it wasn't clear that tea was included in the price of the meal set (we never received it) The hibachi dishes themselves were pretty good - although I expected better for the prices they are charging. The highlight of the meal was definitely the performance that our chef put on and the onion volcano that topped off the experience. Our chef was clearly very talented with hibachi and it made for a fun show! The ginger sauce that came with the meal was also super yummy read more

Had reservations in a Friday. Got there on time and were told 6 tables were in front of us. Other groups had waited well over 30 minutes past their reservations. The very rude host informed us that this happens all the time as the company allows the systems to over book a lot. They sorta screw you on a busy Friday in a busy area as there are few places with open reservations. Will never go back! read more

Planned a special night for my daughter's birthday. As we waited for our group of 10 to arrive, we listened to the hostess staff using the f-word multiple times as they carried on in front of us. Not professional at all! We got seated at the habachi table- food was good, but no real show or excitement. I asked for teriyaki sauce for my chicken and was charged $7.50 for it. Wow! Service was very mediocre. Couldn't taste alcohol on any of the drinks. When dinner ended, I asked if they were going to sing happy birthday, they showed up with a tiny plastic dressing cup with maybe a quarter ounce of whipping crème and a candle. Oh my gosh! Spent a fortune on dinner and thats what you do for special celebrations? So tacky and so cheap. We won't be back. Food was good, but way overpriced. Wayyyyyy overpriced! Be prepared if you choose to go. read more

I am writing to express my disappointment with our visit to your restaurant last night. We dined as a group of seven to celebrate a close friend's birthday--a yearly tradition we have maintained for nearly nine years. Unfortunately, this visit fell far short of the experience we have come to expect from Benihana. The food was consistently overcooked and, in some cases, scorched. The steak was well past the requested temperature, the shrimp was overcooked, and even the vegetables were burnt. Overall, the food quality was mediocre at best and certainly not reflective of today's menu prices. In addition, there was very little interaction from the chef, which is a significant part of the Benihana experience and one of the main reasons we return each year. Service was also lacking, as our table was not properly bussed throughout the meal. Given the cost of the meal and our long history of loyalty, this experience was extremely disappointing. What has been a cherished annual tradition for us may unfortunately have come to an end as a result of this visit. I wanted to bring this to your attention in hopes that this feedback helps prevent similar experiences for other guests. read more

This place was not good. I was very surprised at the very lack of any effort the chef put into entertaining the table. He came up. Cooked the food. Did the train three three pieces of shrimp at a kid and walked away. The food wasn't that good either. Lobster was amazing but that was it. I brought this up to the server and was told that every chef is different. The one next to us put on a great show while ours didn't do anything. read more

They can improve everything! Food mediocre and that's being generous. It's a little kids birthday place. So many tables were filled with kids parties. And it was packed! The food was flavorless and for about $50 per person, there were 8 of us. I can think of a dozen places I would have rather eaten! The "chef" was not friendly. Didn't remember that part of the extravagant prices were for the entertainment from a chef using a hibachi grill. A few other tables had more upbeat cooks. From the soup to the sauces, the dry chicken to the friend rice up charge with two pieces of carrot and an onion slice, shrimp was probably ok. The overly smoky tiny space, awful smell and lights were obnoxious as well! They didn't bus our table for 25 minutes after we were all done! Lesson learned. Won't return! This place should have stayed in the 80s. read more

1. Lunch menu was available all days earlier. They now offer only Monday to Friday. 2. Even on weekdays, they don't tell you there is a lunch menu. You have to ask for it (most don't know about this menu) and thus trick people into ordering high price dinner items. 3. Teriyaki Sauce was never charged in the past. They charge $2 now. 4. Prices have gone up here and at the same time they are now nickel and diming customers. 5. There is hardly anyone at the restaurant now and I guess i am not alone in seeing these problems. Hoping the management sees this review and act. This has been my go to restaurant for years until the latest experiences. read more

We tried this place for dinner recently and had a great time. We haven't been here for 15+ years, but we are glad we tried it again. The $22 kids meal was a ton of food for our 3 year old, but we made a couple meals out of it. We were very entertained by the gentleman cooking the food. My daughter was mesmerized. So disappointing! I used to be that Benihana was the gold standard for hibachi. Reservation was at 7, we arrived a few minutes before. Still waiting 50 minutes. Five zero for our table. The bartenders were very nice and drinks good. Service - the waitress was friendly but they kept adding soup, salad, etc and not clearing the plates. They had stuck an extra seat at our table, so it was uncomfortable. Chef - really phoned it in. No interaction, nothing fun at all. Food- I could have excised all the rest of the good was good. It wasn't. The fried rice tasted of old oil. Very poorly seasoned. I couldn't even eat it. One of the people in our party ordered yakisoba and it was similarly inedible. Steak very undercooked though ordered medium. Hard to find anything redeeming here. read more

Our 2 sons took my wife here for Mother's Day at her request. PROS: The service was spot on and the food was TERRIFIC. We all had something different and each of us enjoyed our choice immensely. We are a family of cooks and foodies so that says a lot. We lived in Asia 3 years. The waitress checked on us regularly and was delightful. CONS: They crowded 9 people around a setting that is comfortable for 7. And my wife was in a wheelchair. It was just too tight. There was no "show". The chef pilled the fried rice into a heart shaped pile and that was it. No fancy knife work. No flicked shrimp. No onion volcano. It was BORING. Very disappointing. We don't come here for the food. Frankly we can get better elsewhere for the prices. We come for the pizzaz and the showmanship. We didn't get it. I complained to the waitress who said she would send a manager. But none ever came. It's crazy EXPENSIVE. Prices are on par with fine dining and this is NOT fine dining. My meal alone with no appetizer or liquor, with tip was $90. They have priced themselves off our list. Disappointed to say we aren't likely to return unless my wife insists. read more

The food was alright. Chicken was very dry, steak was good. The waitress said that fried rice was an "up charge". We were not told that it was a $7.50 up change. We were upgraded to chicken fried rice. I'm not sure if that's what's normal but a $7.50 up charge should be verbalized while ordering. When we were handed the check we asked if the chicken fried rice was the only option to upgrade, to which the waitress responded "no, but that's usually the go to", I was confused by this response.
