We went last week for my birthday celebration, a party of 6. Our chef really did a wonderful job on all dishes he prepared, and the hostess was responsive, fast, and efficient. What killed the visit (for 2 of us) was that the bar had absolutely no idea how to make a standard martini. An epidemic I'm starting to notice in this area that is spreading rapidly. After we selected a gin and requested 2 olives each, the bartender asked how we would like the lemon peel. We again repeated the request for 2 olives. The martini came out with a strange yellow color suggesting they had put olive brine in it unrequested. After a quick sip, I realized they had made it with sweet vermouth (instead of the normal dry vermouth), giving the drink an unpleasant bitterness. Upon requesting another 1 to be made to correct the error, the bar repeated the mistake. By this time our table was ready, we paid full price for 2 drinks, and didn't complain. But we should have. Martinis are a classic cocktail that should be an established standard, cold, and properly garnished. read more

Went there for a bday dinner .. Where do I start ? The place was very noisy and congested.. the Salad dressing was bitter, soup salty .. I ordered the Salmon which was ok but ALL THE SIDES WERE WAY TOO SALTY !!! Veggies , mushrooms, noodles , all so salty I couldn't finish.. rice had pounds of butter in it No bday celebration at the end like most places do .. The shrimp tempura was soggy not crisp .. My visit was marred by several issues, beginning with undrinkable water, which I was informed came from a soda machine. The food quality was equally unsatisfactory; my meal arrived cold, and even after being remade, it remained unacceptable, with undercooked scallops, overcooked steak, and cold fried rice. While the manager appropriately waived the charge for my plate, the overall dining experience was highly regrettable. We made reservations for 5:30pm and arrived before 5:30pm to check in. The hostess told us they were "a little behind" and it would "be a few minutes". We were waiting until around 5:50pm and asked the hostess again about our table. At that time we were told that they were at least 30 minutes behind and we would be sat at 6:15pm at the latest. Around 6:10pm we checked again on the timing, and they told us to wait 20 more minutes and that there are still 3 tables ahead of us. I had specifically made reservations because we have our 10 month old with us and wanted to eat on the earlier side to get home for bedtime. Now we've been waiting for almost an hour with still no seat. It's very frustrating since we made a reservation expecting it to be busy. It's just not what it used to be. It's probably been over 10 years since the last time I came to a Benihana but I didn't expect it to be so vastly different and not in a good way. Watching different chefs around the room and the consistency wasn't there at all. Our party was large enough that they had to put us at separate tables which was a little disappointing. The other side of our group was nearly done eating by the time we got our food. Their chef was SO fast. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. Ours was great, very polite and obviously good at his job. He even came by later to give the kids some stickers. While I understand the price of some of the menu items, I don't understand how the kids meal cost $70! I assumed the drink was included, it was not. She wanted veggies, those were also separate. If your kids aren't picky, just order the rice off the adult menu and add a meat. Before making a reservation on Yelp I read the reviews. Most bad reviews mentioned the long wait time. I decided to make a reservation as soon as the restaurant opens at 11:00 am. The reviews were correct, we waited 20 minutes to get seated, our drinks and appetizers didn't come out until 11:50 am. When we were seated we were met with dirty plates. We notified our waitress and got new plates. I proceeded to look around and the floors were dirty and the stoves full of grease. It made a terrible first impression. The food was okay, but when everything is filthy your appetite just goes down the tube. We didn't get out of there until 12:45 pm. We've been to Benihana quite a few times, and one thing I can say is the food is consistently good. You pretty much know you're going to leave happy and full. This visit stood out thanks to Chef Wayne and Daniel, who really elevated the experience. Chef Wayne brought great energy to our table. It was just hubby and I at our Teppan table which made it nice and intimate for lunch. He was very engaged while still delivering perfectly cooked dishes. The flavors were on point, portions were generous, and everything came out exactly as expected (which honestly is part of why I keep coming back). Daniel's customer service was good. He was attentive without hovering, friendly without feeling scripted, and made sure drinks stayed filled and the table stayed comfortable throughout the meal. We drove out of our way to Benihana for their advertised lunch special, only to be told it's grill seating only, something NOT clearly communicated. With a one-year-old, we chose a regular table to avoid disturbing others, and they refused to honor the deal. To make matters worse, the restaurant was completely EMPTY during lunchtime, yet there was still no willingness to accommodate. When I asked for a manager, LaShawn offered zero help, no understanding, no solution, no effort!! Just rigid and dismissive! This is our second visit here at this location and I didn't think it could get worse, it did. First time we went and ordered to go and they forgot both my wife and my salads. I've been coming here for years. The food is almost always on point. The chefs are entertaining. Some are better than others. If you like a chef, you can make reservations and be sure to request for your favorite chef. Just make sure they have your order right for the cook when they confirm your order, and it should be fine. They charge 18% gratuities on parties 6 or more which is usually standard. The wait staff are usually on point and will keep your drinks filled. You can ask them for any kind of dipping sauces and extra garlic butter. I like various items that they offer. Bennihana is known for their strong garlic flavor. So if you do not like garlic you may not love it. Filet Mignon is always good. Tender. Hibachi steak is good, not as tender as the filet. The shrimp is good. The scallops are usually good. Some chefs tend to burn them so make sure to watch out for that. I enjoy the lobster. The chicken dishes are good. Both teriyaki and hibachi. The soup is salty and good. They make the best chicken fried rice. Edamame is pretty tasty. Some people like the sushi, I can't speak for it though. At the end of your meal you can ask for hot green tea. The ice cream is tasty. They also have the taste of bennihana special where you can sit on the other side of the restaurant with no chef experience but you still get yummy food. I've noticed since Covid, you can wait quite a long time before they start cooling your food. So be sure to give yourself 2 hours if you want to enjoy the experience. I made a reservation, I recommend that. It was quick and easy on yelp. We received our 1st course in about 7mins which was pretty fast, drinks came quickly too. As I was driving back home I started having the worst cramp ever. I had to work hard to contain myself from pooping in the car. As soon as I got home I hurried to the restroom. I got food poisoning. We had the best time here last night! They have a pretty good birthday reward, but there's a lot of fine print involved, so be sure to read that over before you decide to use it. I hadn't been here in a long time and my kids had actually never been to a Teppanyaki restaurant, so we decided to remedy that! Our server and chef were fun and entertaining! We went to Benigana in Ontario for a celebration lunch. The hostesses were great. It went downhill from there. We were met first with a rude staff member who took our drink order. He never smiled or made us feel welcome. He snapped at the women but not the men. He kept overlooking us at every step of the visit. It was quite frustrating. We had been seated about 15 minutes when we were ask to move tables. We weren't told anything as to, "why." Everyone at our table started asking questions. We were finally told its because the grill wasn't working. We switched without incident. We were relieved to see a chef come to prepare our meals. The chef was kind, funny, and professional. I felt bad for the chef and ultimately all of us seated at the table because as the chef cooked the overhead fan that pulls the smells, odors, and steam away from the grill - was broken. We were being hit with smoke and grease smells. The chef drenched our food in oil and butter. I couldn't eat more than a handful of bites at the restaurant. It was disgusting. Then, we had to wait for nearly 30 minutes for our check only to discover we were charged $46 for wagu rice! (WHAT? NO ONE TOLD US It was $23pp extra for 5 tiny pieces of wagu steak to be in our rice. When the 1st guy took our order he said, "Would you like chicken, beef, or wagu rice?" We said, "Wagu " They should've alerted us to an upcharge vs being totally off guard by the prices. We ended up paying $175 for 2 meals , before tip ($46 was the wagu rice!!!) Ii spoke with the mgr about my concerns, he said, "okay, I'll talk with them." I've never had a bad experience at Benihana before. But, this visit sealed the deal for me. We took the leftovers home with napkins in the box to hopefully remove excess grease/butter, and oils. We sat waiting at the table for the return of our credit card. When we were about to leave we both noticed, the oils/butter went through the bottom of the take out box. We had to double box our order so it wouldn't leak. I wish the mgr would've addressed our concerns more seriously, the staff should've been more friendly, and I was disappointed that our bday meal was a total disappointment. OH! Speaking of birthday celebration...we had to ask if they were going to celebrate our bday. When they brought ice cream to one of us...they proceeded to sing, "Happy birthday" with the same enthusiasm as getting a root canal. It was disappointing all the way around...and we paid an obscene amount of money for this experience. I wouldn't recommend you to go to this restaurant. We loved this place. The food was very good. The steak and shrimp was so delicious. Try the rice with hot sauce very delicious if you like chili. The sushi was very good here. The employees were very polite and the chef was very polite and playful. It was very entertaining to see the chef cook for us. The location is clean and moderate noise. Came to Benihana's for my birthday dinner.. a whole party of 9 and although the food tasted great, the experience was maybe a 1/10. We were sat down & Gabe was our server for a quick minute and just took our drinks, he was lively and so friendly so we thought we got lucky... we were mistaken. Gabe was only the breaker for our actual server, Daniel. While Daniel made sure to take our orders correct, he had no energy, an attitude and zero customer service persona. Chef Erika was the BOMB!! These 2 stars were definitely for her. She was lively, kind, and a real good chef we got so lucky. The second she was done cooking and walked away our server came "Ice cream flavor?" or "Yours doesn't come with ice cream." and "Be back with boxes". Mind you, we had no time to enjoy our food or were asked if we were ready for dessert? He and himself was the only one to sing happy birthday with nooooo energy. I think to make the experience less sad I would of preferred if there was no singing as it's what it felt like anyway. I had to eat my birthday ice cream before my actual dinner since it was so rushed to get us out of there, very disappointing. Finally the one that took us over the edge, was he was filling a cup of water and maybe stopped paying attention and the cup was just overflowing onto my sister in laws sleeve because of carelessness. Stopped in around 7pm tonight and the place was packed, with about 30 people outside waiting, another dozen jammed inside the doorway. There were 4 girls standing at the podium, all 4 of them looked lost and confused. They refused to make eye contact or help more than 1 person at a time. I placed an order online, steak and fried rice for 4 people...the amount of meat was barely enough for 2 people. I had a feeling this would happen by looking at the price alone. To the manager, please get some help on managing the crowd here, better training or a better game plan. You can feel the frustration and the fact that they have an armed guard next to them 4 girls, is also telling. read more

The taste of the food is still really good. I was super disappointed that I paid $4 to get two/2 oz portions of ginger sauce and neither container was even close to 2oz. Guests are seated around a teppanyaki grill as they watch their food being cooked by highly trained chefs whose performance is somewhat theatrical and amusing. THE FOOD. - Deluxe Treat | Filet mignon and lobster tail are grilled in front of you, along with hibachi shrimp, and assorted vegetables (I still think the onion volcano is fun to watch). They also bring out a cup of onion soup, a side salad, a small bowl of steamed rice (you can ask to have to fried), and green tea. After the meal, a scoop of ice cream comes out for dessert. Overall, I liked everything and ended up taking some of it home. THE DRINKS. - Banana Breeze | Great banana flavor! It was refreshing and comforting. THE PARKING. Free parking, no issues finding an open spot. THE RESERVATION. Yeah, make reservations. It's the right thing to do. THE RETURN? I'd come back. EPIC FAIL......Dropped by for the last day of their $25 loyalty coupon and the place was mobbed on Sunday 2/1. Instead of making people wait in the lobby or outside, they began filling up the teppan tables with NO chefs in sight. As the clock ran into 30 minutes, people began to get super anxious and actually leaving. Finally at the 35-minute mark, our chef showed up to start cooking and his show. Our food was O.K., but this total lack of control over the over crowded situation was an epic fail. When you are paying $50 to $100 a person for a meal and tip, you expect near perfection, and this was not even close. Then, to add insult to injury, I was given a bill in the amount of $148 for one person.....I had to go person by person at my table to figure out whom got mine.....Then, after I paid, i had to request my receipt.....which never came!! Finally I just left in frustration. and will NOT be coming back to this place ever again. I hear Kobe, just up the street, is better and much cheaper as well. read more

I arrived and there's already about five people waiting so I give my name and they say it'll be a few more minutes and that turned into more than 40 minutes later because they were "waiting for rice". The two ladies working at the takeout counter don't acknowledge you don't talk to you don't apologize for the delay, don't give you updates, they just ignore everyone standing there. And the burritos themselves were crap and not worth the money AT ALL, even getting one for free. It's literally neat and rice and there is zero seasoning. Our bottle wine sat at the bar until the hostess noticed that the bottle was just sitting there waiting to be taken to the table. Food was not good due to chief adding so much pepper.
