Today's visit was a great way to celebrate my brother's birthday. Juan P. (the cook) was one of the best cooks I've had in a while. He made sure my family was taken care of, was very polite, and even had us laughing like a comedian. Juan also made sure my daughter was entertained by giving her a little ducky toy. I had a reservation for two at 8:00 PM on April 11th through OpenTable. We arrived early at 7:50 PM and checked in with the two hosts at the front. After giving my name and reservation time, we were told to have a seat and that we would be checked in shortly. We sat on the bench along the wall, where only one other couple was waiting. As time passed, more guests arrived, checked in, and were promptly seated. We didn't think much of it at first, but by 8:15 PM and then even 8:30 PM we still hadn't been called. My boyfriend went up to the host stand to follow up, and it seemed like our reservation had never been checked in. This was extremely disappointing and reflects poorly on the front house service. If guests are visibly waiting while others are being seated, it would make sense to check in with them to ensure they've been helped? We were finally seated at 8:40 PM, but by then it was clear there were several parties ahead of us still waiting to be served. We realized we likely wouldn't be eating until around 10 PM so we left. This place continues to spiral downward! Ordered takeout over the weekend (spent over $50 btw) and I was severely disappointed! I asked for NO MUSHROOMS in my soup & food, only to find them all throughout my plate! Causing me to accidentally consume one, have an anaphylactic episode! Having visited many Shogun restaurants, I was pleasantly surprised by the exceptional service and quality. Our server, Nao, was fantastic. Having previously served us at the La Verne location, she was as attentive as ever, ensuring our drinks were always full and checking in frequently to see if we needed anything. Most notably, Chef Luis Hidalgo truly exceeded my expectations. The food he prepared was absolutely amazing and easily some of the best I have ever had. I have always supported shogun practically all my life!! Unfortunately, my family had a birthday celebration last night 11/5/25 and the service was absolutely disappointing. We had a reservation set for 6:30 PM and literally we were there for 3 1/2 hours. It took them forever to come to our table and help us, and to bring our drinks . Took about 2 hours for our chef to come to the table to cook. We also noticed that there were other parties that came after us, and they were getting help but we were the last table to get help. Also, what I didn't like, was that it was a many Workers just standing around and talking while our server was very busy and struggling. I didn't like the fact that no one helped her and they just let her stumble. I hate that this was a celebration for a good time and especially a birthday and the night was definitely ruined honestly. Most of our party drove three hours just to get here. The Customer Service was terrible and spoiled the entire night. However, our chef Juan P. Had a good personality and he kind of made up for the terrible experience. Also, our server was very nice as well, but I just hate the whole fact that management did not take over and did not care to accommodate us in a timely matter and have professionalism the entire time. There is no way no one should wait an hour and a half just for drinks and appetizers. It took so long that we did not even want the other two appetizers that we did order because it literally took too long and when the bill came, we wasn't even sure if those two items were still on the bill because it was just a bad experience and everyone at the table pretty much was very exhausted. Many people from the party had to end up leaving right away when the food came because it was just a lag. I have never knew shogun to be this way. I have never witnessed this unprofessionalism in a while and I definitely would not come back here. It was my husband's birthday and decided to treat dinner for him. My daughter placed a reservation and seated right away upon arrival. The place was clean and spacious. The attendant was so nice and accommodating. The book Israel was ok. We ordered filet mignon with chicken New York steak with calamari, NY steak with shrimp , filet mignon with shrimp , Ny steak with scallop. The dishes were good . The meat was cooked well tender and juicy. The vegetables were fresh . We got the steamed rice instead of the fried rice. The miso soup needs more miso broth and salt. It was kinda bland . Dinner at Shogun was... an experience. Our chef, Juan, was happy. Like, really happy. Borderline hibachi-stand-up-comedy-happy. The energy was unmatched. Possibly caffeinated. Possibly enlightened. The salad arrived in a bold new culinary style I can only describe as "Arctic Fresh." I've had chilled tomatoes. I've had room-temperature tomatoes. I have never had frozen tomatoes. Innovative? Sure. Enjoyable? Debatable. At one point, he butterflied butter. I didn't know butter needed that kind of surgical precision, but here we are. There was also a bubbling volcano of soy sauce that felt both unnecessary and impressive.... like we were being warned of impending flavor doom. The piña colada? Let's just say it tasted like it had been emotionally distant from a pineapple. And yet... somehow... we had a pretty good time. Would I go back? Absolutely. Ambience of the restaurant is the same as always, and I have enjoyed it. Very simple and tasteful. The food is always spectacular. I have never had a bad meal. I have to give major props to our chef this evening Luis, he was funny and entertaining, and loved having him cook our food with flair. Service was excellent as always. One major drawback was reservations for 5:30 and did not get seated until 45 minutes later. I had reservations for 5:30 for a reason. Why do they not coordinate their tables with how many are needed for a specific time slot. Should not have had to wait 45 minutes to be seated. Maybe next time I'll just go sit at the bar and get my full dinner and appetizers there. I'm sure my meal would have gotten there a lot quicker. Walking out of there at 8:00 is too late for my digestive system. They MUST improve their reservation system. read more

We had our 2 small children so our chef Elias (shout out to him) really turned on the show for them, which we appreciated, and his jokes were funny. I've been coming here for years and it used to be one of my favorite spots for birthdays, anniversaries, and family dinners. The reason I kept coming back was because the food always had a certain taste and quality that made it feel special. Unfortunately, the last visit had been disappointing. It seems like several menu items were changed or the recipes were altered, because the food just doesn't taste the same anymore. Some dishes that used to be full of flavor now taste bland or completely different from what I remember. It's honestly frustrating when you order something you've loved for years and it no longer has the same quality or consistency.I understand restaurants make changes sometimes, but regular customers notice when ingredients or preparation changes too much. Been to many teppan restaurants and frequently go to the LaVerne location but definitely don't think I will be back at this location. We got Elias as the cook and we told him beforehand not to waste the sauces, and we preferred melted butter. He told us we would need to pay an up charge for butter which we have never been charged for butter... even at the La Verne location. I don't think 1 tablespoon of butter was going to hurt and to charge $3 is ridiculous when we our bill was over $150. As we wanted to enjoy our food because the cook barely even put butter on the veggies, shrimp and meat... we requested the butter and it was brought from the back. (Which I don't understand why the cook just couldn't melt it in front of us) This just didn't make sense to me. I don't care to go back to this shogun location. read more

We have been to Shoguns NUMEROUS times, (more than I can count) when we lived in La Verne. Came to this location a few times as well. We used to go so much so my sons knew every detail next during their "show. They eventually got bored and just watched their phones most times after lol. Anyways, We arrived to this location today for just a normal day out lunch with the boys. Got there around 11:45ish. They just opened so we waited a few minutes. We sat ordered some appetizers, which are now on happy hour until 5:30 so that was pretty awesome. Waitress was super sweet, but the highlight of the show was definitely the cook Eli. He was freaking HILARIOUS! Like I mean I was laughing after the joke was done. He kept it going. He even had my 10 year old son locked in to the point he pulled out his phone to record, which is rare. But Eli, you kept him engaged. From my 10 year old to my 18 year old. Not one of them were on their phones. Now that's a miracle. I have 4 boys and they were cracking up and just talking about you after we left. Arguably one of my least favorite teppan experiences, it started off with a 15 minute wait that turned into a 30 minute wait and once we got seated, we weren't helped for another half hour, frantically trying to get the waitress' attention to even order our drinks. After ordering, the chef came to our table after another 30 minutes and thinking it would be like any other teppan place where the chef would have a show with the food, his head was down the whole time and quickly left after his job was done. What should have been an hour and a half dinner turned into a 3 and a half hour ordeal of which I was not enjoying in the slightest. The food was another problem too. 30$+ for one dinner plate is already pretty expensive but I would at least expect a portion equivalent to its cost. As you can see below, I got short-changed from my portion while everyone else at my table(mind you, they did not order any combination that included chicken) all got a couple of pieces from my serving and as I was the last one to be served, my sole order of chicken was split among 8 other people. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this but as the chef already placed the food, there was nothing I could do. I've gone to the other teppan place WabiSabi many times and have never experienced anything even remotely close to how I was treated here. I'm definitely never coming back and but if you enjoy long wait times, practically nonexistent service and small but expensive portion sizes that get shared with everyone at your table, Shogun is your best bet. read more

We had reservations 3/7/2026 at 7pm, reservations party of 2! We check in at 6:55pm, as decent people do and we're told we would be seated shortly. I came here to celebrate my birthday. We were seated at 8:02pm a whole hour after our reservations. I though okay at least now i can eat, we were starving so we ordered sushi to fill us up while the chef prepared. DONT EAT THE SUSHI, after we ate the sushi i had some fried rice and went to the restroom and I got sick immediately. I come back to the table just wanting to maybe eat something to feel better and I literally had a full plate of rib eye, chicken, noodles and veggies to go. I was just really upset about waiting so long and it was cold. a heads up would have been nice that way we could have gone somewhere else and me and my boyfriends aren't the type to complain, but I had the WORST experience and it blows because I was genuinely looking forward to eating here. Let's start, the theme of the night is "overcooked". We are here for a B-day celebration. 5 people. First of all, rec'd the wrong soup ordered, Fine my wife gave me hers. Three of us ordered chicken, 4 of us had fried rice, with our last wanting only white rice. One of our neighboring guests also ordered white rice. The cook supplied the fried rice and gave leftover fried rice to the ones that wanted only white rice. They ended up giving it away to others in the group. There's a reason why they ordered like they did! Next, I saw other tables cooking eggs appropriately for fried rice, if it's brown on both sides , you overcooked it. We rec'd our fried rice and every bite I took had a hard crunchy granular texture to it. Either the steamed white rice that arrived had uncooked rice or our cook overcooked it. It was the latter. Now for the chicken, it was on the grill forever, after applying the different sauces per order and plated, the chicken was extremely dry and crusty. Another dissappointment. Something new, noodles, red potatoes, and broccoli. Extra starch for what? Noodles were like Yakisoba packets in a grocery store, red potatoes were half potato chunks and hard, and the broccoli was just over cooked. Next the vegetables which is usually always a good food to have here, however this cook over did it. Mushrooms were shrunk and black to non-existense. Zuchinni use to be predominent but not so much now. I usually will take home leftovers, not this time. I left it and the waitress should have got the hint but didn't say anything. My whole meal practically. One more thing, the gyoza appetizer came out cold on the sides and the center was barely room temp. The whole meal was unacceptable. For a $350 bill with tip this time, this place needs to do alot better. I do not recommend this ever again after failing twice now.
