Samosas have always been a favourite from here but when attempting to order the samosa plate, this is what I got (attached photo). I was later informed (by the customer mentioned below) that the plate I received was similar to a more traditional way of eating samosas similar to how you'd find it in a household. Story time: At first I thought it (the order) was a mistake because I ordered off of door dash and the bag it came in was just an unmarked plastic bag; so I reordered but received the same thing. I was disappointed given that I was expecting 8 individual samosas (as shown on the Bengali sweets website), so I gave the store a call. When the owner picked up, he was nothing short of rude and expressed that he couldn't explain anything over the phone and that I should come to the store in person. I was free so I made the trip and when I went, he made no attempt to explain or rectify the misunderstanding, he was rude and patronizing (saying I am ignorant and don't understand the culture because I'm not Bengali which may be true but I did my research so I thought the comment was rather offensive), and he was trash talking me and a fellow customer (who stood up to him for me when he made me cry) to a customer who walked in during all of this. In total, me and another customer (who had insisted on buying the 8 samosas I tried to order) spent 1.5 hours at the store waiting for the food on the owner's promise that the food would take "five more minutes". I wish this experience hadn't happened because me and my community genuinely love the food there but the owner's behaviour and actions are hard to ignore. read more

I wish I could give 0 stars. The worst veggie pakora I've ever had. The food was literally served burnt. Samose are tasteless. The owner made us wait for 20 minutes after he called us to inform that order is ready. Why would you tell me it's ready when it's not? Lol. Don't order from here, save your money. read more

The service at Bangali Sweets was amazing! Although the takeout time technically ended at 9:30 PM, they made an exception to have our food ready at 9:45. The food here was decent, though not outstanding. Sauces and flavors of the entrees were good, but the samosas weren't great (at least they were inexpensive). One particular thing we noticed was the amount of meat in dishes was quite small. Our butter chicken had maybe half a chicken breast in the whole dish. Same with our chicken biryani. We ordered take-out, so I can't comment on in-person dining. The take-out experience was rocky, but it seems like they were having issues this day (90 minute wait on food; ATM machine not working so they took only cash), so I'll assume that is not the norm. Bottom line, you don't really have a lot of choice for Indian food in the south end. Clay Oven is good, but pricey. Ivory downtown is probably the best, but it's a long way away. read more

We are in Winnipeg for business and thought Indian food sounded good. We went to Bengali Sweets and Restaurant based on the reviews and they didn't disappoint! The food was unique and so delicious! They even added meat to one of the vegetarian dishes that I wanted and it was amazing. I'll definitely be going back when I am here on business in the future. read more

This place just opened up in the strip mall near the old log cabin Mcdonalds, in the same spot that the old Santa Lucia used to be. This brand new Indian restaurant is 100% vegetarian! My mom and I ordered the Veg. Thali which comes with 3 dishes of your choice, rice, yoghurt, and a gulab jamon. I had the vegetable kofta, chana masala, and shahi paneer. The platter also comes with a big basket of naan which were fresh and delicious. The service is kind of awkward (I think it is the son of the owner, he has no serving experience) but the food is so good. They also have a huge selection of Indian sweets for between 6-8 dollars a pound. Try this place! read more

One great little restaurant featuring a wide selection of tasty sweets, 100% vegetarian meals, inexpensive lunch and very fair portion sizes. While service is somewhat laid back, I think the service matches the very small dining room anyway. The food is pretty good too! It is also worth mentioning that Bengali Sweets sells very inexpensive samosa that are seasoned quite nicely. The restaurant is also open quite late which is nice for night owls like me. read more

I have everything to recommend for this east Indian restaurant. Food is delicious, awesome preparation, fresh n hot naan and lot more. The only star missing in my review is dedicated to the customer service by the boy who was serving me. It looks like he is working there unwillingly. I always see him super serious which turn-off the customers. The guys in the kitchen are awesome though. So, if you like Indian food just feel free to go there and order anything. We ordered dosa whichis staple dish from south India it was aweful. They don't know how to make that. Sambhar taste like old daal and dosa was like a really thick dough. And idly was old. I wont recommed anyone to go there and eat. read more
