3.5/5, +.5 for service…read more I'd say this is up there for Indian restaurants in Winnipeg. I've been to Shahi Flames a few times now, and usually the restaurant itself isn't too busy, but they do a lot of take out orders. It's a pretty large restaurant, so it concerns me slightly at how quiet it is each time. However the food's been consistent here and I've never had issues with food quality at all. My go-to dishes here have been the lamb dishes. I've had their Lamb Curry, Lamb Tikka Masala, and Lamb Vindaloo. All excellent, and you can adjust the spice levels as needed (I usually go medium; spicy is REALLY spicy). If anything I wish the glasses (for filling in water) were a bit bigger, and the water was not so...lukewarm. That's about my only complaint though, everything else about this place I love. Service has always been good here. Will continue to return for sure.

It is spacious but also intimate. When I was there I saw couples cuddling while they ate their meals. My friend and I loved our dishes. I tried the Vegetable Biryani with a side of raita. The waitress asked me if I wanted it spicy and I said no. The meal wasn't too spicy hot just a little bit which was good for me because I don't enjoy very hot things. I mixed the raita with the rice which cooled the flavor down a bit. I loved the big paneer chunks mixed in with the veggies in my rice. The pomegranate juice was okay, my friend's mango juice was sweeter and tastier though. My friend is from India and he said this restaurant has authentic Indian food. He completely approved his meal too, he had the Vegetarian Thali. He let me try some of the veggie purées and the rice pudding and both were super yummy. I'd love to come back and try more meals!

Pair it with their naan bread, which is soft, fluffy, and comes out piping hot, and you've got a perfect meal right there. The buffet also deserves a shout-out -- it offers plenty of variety with something for everyone, from meat dishes to vegetarian options. At least it seemed like that from the outside. I didn't have the buffet so I can't speak on what my experience with that is like. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and portions you get, and the service is friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself is clean and inviting, with a relaxed atmosphere that makes dining here enjoyable whether you're solo or with a group. If you're in Winnipeg and love South Asian cuisine, Chili Chutney is a must-visit -- consistently great food and a truly satisfying dining experience.

+.5 for service This…read morereview is not for the buffet. I looked at the buffet options and it honestly didn't impress me, so I went for a la carte instead. The regular menu is very extensive. Chicken, lamb, goat curry of all kinds are available here. Prices are reasonable too. One of my coworkers who's Indian actually told me if there's an Indian place that he'd order from, it's this one. I had the Railway Lamb Curry, which is boneless lamb with a tomato onion masala gravy blend. There seems to be a bigger variety of Indian dishes here compared to places like Cilantro's and Shahi Flames. Overall I found the lamb curry to be really good! The lamb pieces were juicy and plentiful, and the curry was creamy without it being overly salty. Very busy restaurant so expect a bit of a wait for your food. Considering the lack of Indian restaurants in the southwest quadrant of the city, Chili Chutney is a welcome addition to the area.

Samosas have always been a favourite from here but when attempting to order the samosa plate, this…read moreis what I got (attached photo). I was later informed (by the customer mentioned below) that the plate I received was similar to a more traditional way of eating samosas similar to how you'd find it in a household. Story time: At first I thought it (the order) was a mistake because I ordered off of door dash and the bag it came in was just an unmarked plastic bag; so I reordered but received the same thing. I was disappointed given that I was expecting 8 individual samosas (as shown on the Bengali sweets website), so I gave the store a call. When the owner picked up, he was nothing short of rude and expressed that he couldn't explain anything over the phone and that I should come to the store in person. I was free so I made the trip and when I went, he made no attempt to explain or rectify the misunderstanding, he was rude and patronizing (saying I am ignorant and don't understand the culture because I'm not Bengali which may be true but I did my research so I thought the comment was rather offensive), and he was trash talking me and a fellow customer (who stood up to him for me when he made me cry) to a customer who walked in during all of this. In total, me and another customer (who had insisted on buying the 8 samosas I tried to order) spent 1.5 hours at the store waiting for the food on the owner's promise that the food would take "five more minutes". I wish this experience hadn't happened because me and my community genuinely love the food there but the owner's behaviour and actions are hard to ignore.
