I really like Indian food. I enjoy the samosas. However, when ever I walked into the store for samosas I found they are reheat and I realized until I am home. Nine out ten I will put them in the garbage. They are reheat and the potatoes filling are black and grease. I am so disappointed that there is not ethics when it comes to customers. Horrible service! Complete fraud! Bait and switch. They have the wrong descriptions for food items. When the customer orders and doesn't get what they were suppose to get, they do not issue refunds or new food. That is bait and switch and fraud. We stopped by while visiting winniepeg I must say they have a very good selection menu. I wanted to try different dishes so ended up ordering chicken thaali and bhatura thaali. I stepped into this restaurant to order a take out meal. I was blown away with the beautiful, modern interior and the parkside view of the baseball diamond. However, I explained that I wanted a dish with no cashews, because I am allergic. The person taking my order encouraged me also to not have raisins because I might be allergic to them too. I told her that rasins were fine. She pretended to understand but then repeated that she would hold the raisins. I told her again. Raisins are fine. I am NOT allergic to raisins, and I want the raisins to be in the dish. The only problem is cashews. Once again she agreed, but then said she would hold the cashews and also the raisins. I stopped her and very clearly explained that I wanted the raisins. I asked if she understood, and asked her to tell me what I wanted. She repeated that I wanted the raisins in my dish. Well, guess what? No raisins. Really? I hate that kind of stupidity. Just be honest with me and tell me that you don't have any damned raisins! This is a major faux pas for me, and indicates complete disrespect for the customer. I now hate that place and will never go back. Not only so, but it made me pay closer attention to the food that was not so incredible. My dish was filled with large, stiff, dry cubes of chicken, masked by a rather oversalted sauce. I will say that they have the best, freshest naan bread I've ever experienced. They have a fabulous garlic, mint, yogourt sauce. But no thank you to the lying, disrespectful wait staff. Nope. Worst restaurant! Do not try! I had New Year's Eve dinner with a group of friends yesterday. The restaurant was jam-packed as if there were no Covid-19 regulations put in place - every single table was occupied with more than 4people. They had some restaurant policy that they do not allow any leftover food to be packed. We paid for eight people pre-ordered dishes and were not allowed to pack the leftovers - our money was wasted! We had so much leftover! It is not environmental as this restaurant waste so much food by enforcing the customer not to pack their food and throw them away ( if they throw them away). Thus, while we were eating, the waiter/waitress started taking away the dishes. I had to stop the waiter/waitress and tell him that we are still eating! People do like to take a break in between the dishes and start again. Moreover, the waiter/waitress kept rushing us to leave as though the dishes were cleaned up and their work was done. In general, the service was terrible, and the whole experience with this restaurant was unsatisfying and horrible. I advise everyone to order food from this restaurant cautiously. read more

This place improves every time I dine here. I have to say that Clay Oven has now become my favourite Indian restaurant in the city! The flavours are definitely more intense and exciting here. My fave dish, which I recommend to everyone is the masala lamb chops ($16.99) - a south Indian-style dish cooked in karahi with traditional spices in a thick Masala sauce. There have been times where I've finished shopping at Indigo (next door to Clay Oven) and wandered into Clay Oven to order the masala lamb chops. You can smell all the heavenly spices from the parking lot and it totally draws you in. You can't make reservations here but on the weekend, the wait isn't terribly long and is definitely worth it. They are very busy which creates an environment where the servers are prompt but it feels like they are running off their feet (I feel bad for them). The decor is beautiful, all dark ones highlighted by various jewel tones. The highly ubiquitous Indian buffet is non-existent here as everything is ordered a la carte. Things are presented beautifully but the portions are quite small and the prices are higher compared to other Indian restaurants. But the flavours here justify the price in a way. Every dish can be ordered mild, medium and hot. Hot has a good kick without killing your palate, that is if you can handle heat in the first place. Papri Chat ($5.99) is a nice starter dish. It has a ton of flavour coming from the tamarind and cumin over the potato and chickpeas and is cooled by the cold yogurt. Palak Paneer ($13.99), I love palak paneer, the Indian version of creamed spinach in my mind. But the version here is okay, pretty average but I always order this at all Indian places. The Saag Chicken ($15.99) is marinated chicken breast cooked with mint, cilantro, green chilles, onions, garlic,and ginger in dry roosted Masala. This an okay dish, it sort of tasted like the palak paneer but with chicken. I would order another chicken dish next time. We had just finished shopping and were looking a quick place to eat when we saw the Clay Oven. I thought it would be like a fast food place but it is s sit down restaurant. The decor is rather dark but the service was fast and friendly. The menu includes both vegetarian and meat dishes in varying degrees of spicy-ness. We ordered the Curried Lamb and asked if it would be sufficient to share. Yes, it was and we also had a small amount leftover for a snack later. We also has one order of naan bread to share. I have been to this location quiet a few times and its always been ok (not excellent). Yesterday we went there for lunch and saw the 2 servers struggling badly to attend to people. Particularly the one we had, she looked like she was new maybe. She brought ice water and I asked if I could get room temp water instead and she said sure but it never came. The food came quickly but the veggie sizzler that my friend had ordered to be spicy was quiet tasteless. She was serving another table, looked at us and saw that we had finished so she mumbled that i'll bring the bill right out and after 10 mins she came to our table asking how's everything going??? Unfortunately, Clay Oven Kenaston does not value customer service. We frequently ordered/dined there due to its convenient location, but their consistent poor customer service has convinced us to invest elsewhere. Their personnel, particularly one of the female owners, is consistently rude and disrespectful. On one order, there was an error in processing time that resulted in having to wait an additional 45 minutes. There was no apology. On another order, the girl taking the order inputted it incorrectly. When we received the wrong order, she said "you could just try that instead". After receiving a coupon for $5 off a thali plate at a bombers game - and in another attempt to give them the benefit of the doubt - we were told that the coupon that says 'valid off a thali plate' can be used on entrees only, and that it can't be placed online, although the coupon directs you to the website. Perhaps more troubling than the multiple errors is the owner's entitled attitude, not taking accountability for their errors and almost challenging others to go elsewhere. Clay Oven serves one of the best butter chicken in the City. It is flavourful and creamy! It is significantly better than the ones served at East India Palace, East India Company and Ivory. I go to Clay Oven on a regular basis. My go-to is the Chicken Thali. It is an assorted platter that comes with a bit of everything, including salad, the choice of vegetables/potatoes, entrée (butter chicken), paneer, rice, yogurt, dessert and a side of Nann bread. The Thali offers the best value from its menu. If you get the Thali at lunch, it is a few dollars cheaper than getting it at supper. If you get the Thali with the purchase of a beverage on Tuesdays, you will get yourself a free samosa along with the meal!  The restaurant has a nice ambient and the staff is always friendly. I am satisfied with the service 95% of the time.  One thing I absolutely love about Clay Oven is that there is never a long wait on the food! It's definitely an added bonus especially when you walk in with an empty stomach. I would highly recommend the Clay Oven in Kenaston Common if you are looking for Indian cuisine! read more

I ordered take out through Door Dash, two main entrees and naan. Normally I use the location by the baseball stadium but Door Dash used the location on Edmonton Street. I always always order chicken korma as that's my favorite. The rest of the order was correct but instead of korma they gave me something else not sure what. Although it was still yummy I did make a point in calling to tell them their mistake and the girl put the phone on hold and came back to the phone and said "the chef said it's chicken korma". Well it wasn't as I've eaten that dish from Clay Oven more than you can imagine. The color was different, there was no cashews or raisins. What ever happened to the customer being right? Being a huge chinese food fan, clay oven is a bit below my expectation. While the decor and service is great, serving size is small, price is high considering their main ingredients are onions and lettuce (a bit overboard IMO), too many spices but too little flavor. While chinese believes in marinating food before hand, clay oven resembles american food where everything is plain with sauce splashed all over to give the illusion of flavor.
