We stopped by while visiting winniepeg I must say they have a very good selection menu. I wanted to try different dishes so ended up ordering chicken thaali and bhatura thaali. Both were made fresh with fluffy pooris and naan. Butterchicken was delicious and the chicken was tender. Rice was also nice.

This place improves every time I dine here. I have to say that Clay Oven has now become my favourite Indian restaurant in the city! The flavours are definitely more intense and exciting here. My fave dish, which I recommend to everyone is the masala lamb chops ($16.99) - a south Indian-style dish cooked in karahi with traditional spices in a thick Masala sauce. There have been times where I've finished shopping at Indigo (next door to Clay Oven) and wandered into Clay Oven to order the masala lamb chops. You can smell all the heavenly spices from the parking lot and it totally draws you in. You can't make reservations here but on the weekend, the wait isn't terribly long and is definitely worth it. They are very busy which creates an environment where the servers are prompt but it feels like they are running off their feet (I feel bad for them). The decor is beautiful, all dark ones highlighted by various jewel tones. The highly ubiquitous Indian buffet is non-existent here as everything is ordered a la carte. Things are presented beautifully but the portions are quite small and the prices are higher compared to other Indian restaurants. But the flavours here justify the price in a way. Every dish can be ordered mild, medium and hot. Hot has a good kick without killing your palate, that is if you can handle heat in the first place. Papri Chat ($5.99) is a nice starter dish. It has a ton of flavour coming from the tamarind and cumin over the potato and chickpeas and is cooled by the cold yogurt. Palak Paneer ($13.99), I love palak paneer, the Indian version of creamed spinach in my mind. But the version here is okay, pretty average but I always order this at all Indian places. The Saag Chicken ($15.99) is marinated chicken breast cooked with mint, cilantro, green chilles, onions, garlic, and ginger in dry roosted Masala. This an okay dish, it sort of tasted like the palak paneer but with chicken. I would order another chicken dish next time. I definitely want to try the thali platters here next time...they look pretty good. Note: Clay Oven has a couple of coupons in the Show and Save so check them out if you have one.

We had just finished shopping and were looking a quick place to eat when we saw the Clay Oven. I thought it would be like a fast food place but it is s sit down restaurant. The decor is rather dark but the service was fast and friendly. The menu includes both vegetarian and meat dishes in varying degrees of spicy-ness. We ordered the Curried Lamb and asked if it would be sufficient to share. Yes, it was and we also had a small amount leftover for a snack later. We also has one order of naan bread to share. The food was delicious and we will definitely return.

    Chicken Thali at #ClayOven

Clay Oven serves one of the best butter chicken in the City. It is flavourful and creamy! It is significantly better than the ones served at East India Palace, East India Company and Ivory. I go to Clay Oven on a regular basis. My go-to is the Chicken Thali. It is an assorted platter that comes with a bit of everything, including salad, the choice of vegetables/potatoes, entrée (butter chicken), paneer, rice, yogurt, dessert and a side of Nann bread. The Thali offers the best value from its menu. If you get the Thali at lunch, it is a few dollars cheaper than getting it at supper. If you get the Thali with the purchase of a beverage on Tuesdays, you will get yourself a free samosa along with the meal!  The restaurant has a nice ambient and the staff is always friendly. I am satisfied with the service 95% of the time.  One thing I absolutely love about Clay Oven is that there is never a long wait on the food! It's definitely an added bonus especially when you walk in with an empty stomach. I would highly recommend the Clay Oven in Kenaston Common if you are looking for Indian cuisine!

Pair it with their naan bread, which is soft, fluffy, and comes out piping hot, and you've got a perfect meal right there. The buffet also deserves a shout-out -- it offers plenty of variety with something for everyone, from meat dishes to vegetarian options. At least it seemed like that from the outside. I didn't have the buffet so I can't speak on what my experience with that is like. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and portions you get, and the service is friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself is clean and inviting, with a relaxed atmosphere that makes dining here enjoyable whether you're solo or with a group. If you're in Winnipeg and love South Asian cuisine, Chili Chutney is a must-visit -- consistently great food and a truly satisfying dining experience.

+.5 for service This…read morereview is not for the buffet. I looked at the buffet options and it honestly didn't impress me, so I went for a la carte instead. The regular menu is very extensive. Chicken, lamb, goat curry of all kinds are available here. Prices are reasonable too. One of my coworkers who's Indian actually told me if there's an Indian place that he'd order from, it's this one. I had the Railway Lamb Curry, which is boneless lamb with a tomato onion masala gravy blend. There seems to be a bigger variety of Indian dishes here compared to places like Cilantro's and Shahi Flames. Overall I found the lamb curry to be really good! The lamb pieces were juicy and plentiful, and the curry was creamy without it being overly salty. Very busy restaurant so expect a bit of a wait for your food. Considering the lack of Indian restaurants in the southwest quadrant of the city, Chili Chutney is a welcome addition to the area.

Samosas have always been a favourite from here but when attempting to order the samosa plate, this…read moreis what I got (attached photo). I was later informed (by the customer mentioned below) that the plate I received was similar to a more traditional way of eating samosas similar to how you'd find it in a household. Story time: At first I thought it (the order) was a mistake because I ordered off of door dash and the bag it came in was just an unmarked plastic bag; so I reordered but received the same thing. I was disappointed given that I was expecting 8 individual samosas (as shown on the Bengali sweets website), so I gave the store a call. When the owner picked up, he was nothing short of rude and expressed that he couldn't explain anything over the phone and that I should come to the store in person. I was free so I made the trip and when I went, he made no attempt to explain or rectify the misunderstanding, he was rude and patronizing (saying I am ignorant and don't understand the culture because I'm not Bengali which may be true but I did my research so I thought the comment was rather offensive), and he was trash talking me and a fellow customer (who stood up to him for me when he made me cry) to a customer who walked in during all of this. In total, me and another customer (who had insisted on buying the 8 samosas I tried to order) spent 1.5 hours at the store waiting for the food on the owner's promise that the food would take "five more minutes". I wish this experience hadn't happened because me and my community genuinely love the food there but the owner's behaviour and actions are hard to ignore.
