This place is great for breakfast/brunch. I'm sure it is good for lunch/dinner as well but have only been for breakfast. Lots of variety on the menu. Everything we have ordered has been very good. They stay busy but I don't think we have ever waited more than 10 minutes for a table. Which seems amazing since fast service does not seem to be a priority here. Come relaxed and ready to visit. Don't if you want a fast meal on Saturday or Sunday morning. I assume everything is made to order with very few pre made items. Every meal we have had comes out fresh and hot. Prices are reasonable and serving sizes are good. There are lots of very good breakfast places in Durham and I would place this one high on the list. this place is such a hidden gem, we stopped in off of yelp pictures on a trip we were on through durham. we were sat quickly & served even quicker. the place is clean, and the staff is friendly. the vibe is very comfortable, and very 'family owned' feeling. we order the club, french toast combo, a gyro of some kind, and a philly. all of these items were great, but the seasoning on the chicken was the best i've ever had. the philly was so tender & cheesy. the club was great, as was the french toast & the fries were so crispy & hot! 100% would eat here again in a heartbeat. read more

I was REALLY skeptical when my husband suggested we get breakfast here. I was completely wrong. Everything was delicious, it came out promptly, the people are really friendly, and it's now our go-to place. My husband had steak and eggs, I had eggs and bacon, and we shared this GIANT pecan pancake. Everything was great, but that PANCAKE just stole the show. It was delicious. Came here on a busy Sunday in April. There were a few folks in front of us, but they clean and bus tables pretty quickly., so don't let the line fool you . . . and food is worth it !! I had the breakfast burrito. Has at least 3 eggs in it, sausage and other goodies. And the salsa they use is one of the best I've ever tasted! Although this restaurant can hold a fair number of folks, it is surprisingly quiet. The staff is wonderful and come to our table twice to make sure everything is O.K. This restaurant gets crazy busy like it's neighbor True Flavors but has a much bigger space. The coffee was decent and plentiful (thermos left on the table to keep your cup full and offered a to go cup at end of meal). Tried the Cisco Kid skillet with eggs over easy on top of a huge pile of home fries, ham, bacon, mushrooms, onions, and cheese. The eggs were a little more browned on the whites than I prefer but the goals were still a little runny to moisten the dish. Too much food to consume in one sitting. My breakfast date had scrambled eggs, bacon, home fries, and toast which he enjoyed and had no leftovers. Not bad for a Sunday brunch but best to get there earlier. We had not had anything to eat so I searched Yelp and found this spot. It's a tad far from my house but the food was so good I would drive the distance for the experience. Great breakfast, good service. Sort of reminds you of the Greek owned diners I frequented in New Jersey. Loved it and the owners are so warm and friendly which added to the experience. Came in a little after 8am on a Sunday morning after a long night of unpacking after a big move. It took a little while to be seated, but I doubt they expected anyone to come in the day before Memorial Day. We were the only "younger" couple, amidst the two senior couples already at their tables, drinking their coffee and staring over. A little awkward. Service was great! I thought it was DA BOMB to get our very own pot of coffee at our table -- it's the simple things in life that make me happy. My boyfriend ordered the "Combo Scramble" (eggs with crisp bacon, ham, cream cheese, chives and hollandaise sauce) with home fries and toast. I ordered the "Gambler" (spicy smoked sausage, onions, provolone cheese with english muffin and homefries). It didn't take us too long to get our food. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the "Gambler" due to the unspicy nature of the sausage and the overly-onioned dish. The onion seemed to steal away all of the flavor -- forcing me to season the hell out of it with salt and pepper. The provolone seemed like an odd cheese pairing. I think pepperjack or cheddar cheese would have complimented the dish better. On the otherhand, my boyfriend's dish was TO DIE FOR. The "Combo Scramble" was such a delicious ensemble of cheesy, meaty, hollandaise-y goodness. I was quite envious. The portions are "Greek-sized" -- I had enough for another meal (yes, I got a doggie-bag). Most of the clientele seem to be "regulars", which is one way you can tell that a "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant is a keeper. We stopped by Benetis on Sunday for lunch. It's in Greenwood Commons on Hwy. 55 near a bunch of other restaurants, so if you show up and decide not to eat there, there's plenty of other places to go. I'm always on the lookout for a good breakfast-serving restaurant, because that means my son will actually order and eat something off the menu. Despite the big sign outside that said "LUNCH BUFFET", there was no buffet on Sunday. That's fine though, I generally don't like to get buffets. What made me really hesitant was the menu posted next to the door that didn't show any breakfast items. But when I asked the hostess if they had pancakes, she said yes. The menu we received at the table was very different than the one next to the door. The menu featured typical breakfast diner food, with pancakes, waffles, french toast, eggs Benedict, sandwiches, salads and other American entrees. I didn't see anything on the menu that would suggest it was Greek. Maybe they serve a completely different menu for dinner. I got the waffle with spiced apple topping, my son got the kid's pancakes that comes with 2 strips of bacon and scrambled eggs, and my husband got the Broadway skillet which was potatoes, eggs, bacon, ham and miscellaneous other foods cooked up in a skillet. My son got a huge gob of butter on his pancakes, which is great because he loves butter. He didn't like the eggs and bacon touching his pancakes though, so we quickly removed them. He at nearly both pancakes, and I tried some of the leftovers and they were pretty good. My waffle was as good as waffles get, and the spiced apple topping went perfectly with it. I was a bit disappointed though, I didn't get a big gob of melty butter on my waffle. I guess next time that's going to be something I have to ask for. I thought the Broadway skillet looked pretty gross, but my husband thought it tasted great. For 3 entrees and 3 drinks it was about $25, which is pretty decently priced. I had no complaints with the service until we were done eating, and then our waitress was no where to be found. I waited 20 minutes for the bill before going up to the cashier and asking for it. I know, it's a petty complaint, but if you're going to make people wait for their bill that long at least refill drinks our drinks or something. I really can't judge the rest of the food they might serve here at other times. Maybe the buffet and Greek food are super awesome too. All I know is, the breakfast foods were great and I'd definitely take this place over IHOP. read more

I can't say that anything drastically changed from my prior experience to Benetis (over a year ago) and my visit this past weekend. Both experiences have taken place over brunch on a weekend and I've been satisfied after each meal. I think the only thing that's changed is me; my perspective on food and quality. Benetis is doing a lot of things right: first, they have capitalized on the brunch market in their area. There's nothing that competes directly (William's Gourmet Kitchen might be the closet thing, but Benetis' hours are stellar). Because they've capitalized on the market, they are BUSY! I'd say expect to wait unless you're arriving before 8:30am (they open at 7am!) I love that they seat large groups and honestly, if I had family in town visiting, this is the place I'd take them. It's about a $1-$2 over your "typical" diner prices, most of the entrees range from $7-$9, but they've got great flavor and it's great for everyone because they have such a diverse menu: omelets, waffles, pancakes, eggs benedict, frittatas, etc. The portion sizes are also HUGE, it's definitely a two meal plate! They've got above average diner coffee (although it's no Counter Culture) and they leave a whole 'pot' on the table which is a nice touch. They service is what you'd expect from a diner. You're not going to have 24/7 attention and you'll probably have a wait time; that's to be expected with such a popular place. They also have a couple Yelp check-in offers, currently 50% off a second entree and there's a $10 for $5 deal (you cannot overlap savings!). I will still argue that they have THE BEST home fries in Durham, they are so full of flavor, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The reason that I'm knocking them a star is the quality of food with the price. I am only basing this on my tastebuds, but I'd be shocked if everything here is made in house. From the hollandaise sauce to the corned beef and English muffins and even canned jalapeños and salsa. It just tastes like a lot of the ingredients are served from a can and not fresh. If you don't mind this, then honestly, Benetis is going to make you really happy. And I will still argue that it's a great place for groups (as long as they're not food critics). However, it's very 3 star food, A-OK! read more

It was especially busy when we came on a Sunday for brunch, so we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table, which wasn't horrible. I ordered the Californian omelet, which had avocados, mushrooms, onions, and Monterey Jack cheese. I had a side of home fries and wheat bread. The omelet was pretty good - I liked the combination of avocado and mushroom, and a splash of Texas Pete rounded out the omelet nicely . The amount of toppings stuffed in the omelet was generous, and the omelet itself was large, too. The home fries were tasty, but I kind of wished the exterior was a little more crispy. My wife got the gyro sandwich, which had gyro meat wrapped in a pita bread with onions, mushrooms, and feta cheese. The meat had great flavor and a nice crisp to the edges. The pita bread and toppings were pretty standard. The service was pretty slow, probably because things were so busy. Thankfully, I found out about the Yelp check-in deal, which is buy one entree and get the second entree for 50% off. Without the deal, I'm not sure the meal would be completely worth the full price. Like I said earlier, it's a solid diner, with typical diner food, but it may not be the best place to go if you're in a hurry or aren't in the mood for something a little more on the greasy side. My wife and I had breakfast at Benetis for the first time today. We were looking for a good place to get breakfast. My wife asked the waitress if they were able to make ice coffee and we were pleasantly surprised when she said yes. Quickly, two decaf ice coffees with whole milk appeared. The coffee was very good. I ordered the Two by Two. Two fluffy delicious pancakes topped with whipped butter, and two eggs, scrambled, with bacon. Bacon was crispy and flavorful. Eggs were good. My wife ordered the French Toast combo. The French toast was exceptional. I tried a piece and it was rich without the egg overpowering the bread. This is the way French Toast should be and my wife thought it was the best she's had in the area so far. Not only did we get seconds on the ice coffees but my wife asked if it was possible to get take out cups, so we could bring our drinks to the Raleigh fairgrounds in this warm spring day. Our waitress said sure, brought two cups with covers and straws and transferred our drinks to them for us. Food was delicious. Service was exceptional. I typically frown on Buffets, but not this time. The flounder was excellent, as was everything else on the buffet. Although we were seated pretty fast, we waited over half an hour for our food! It was sooooooo long! All the tables inside seemed to be waiting for their food! I ordered heart helper (egg white omelette) and my BF ordered waffle combination. My omelette had no flavor at all! But it had a lot of vegetables inside, which I like. I understand it needs to be healthy. But it could still be flavorful! My boyfriend complained about the cream being low quality and strawberry being not fresh. The strawberry feels like canned fruit! I've ordered here twice from postmates this week and everything I've ordered has been delicious. The eggs are always cooked PERFECTLY, the sausage is the perfect amount of crispy and the waffles and pancakes are unbelievably fluffy. My boyfriend and I had planned to go to another diner close to here, but their wait time was insane so we decided to try it out here. I'm so glad we did. The food was very delicious. We were seated pretty quickly. It took a bit for the waitress to greet us, but nothing insanely long. We were ready to order by the time she came by. I had the eggs benedict with corned beef hash and it was delicious. They give you so much food. I usually finish all of my food, but I was having a tough time doing so. We ordered a stack of pancakes and they were pretty good. It reminded me of the diners that I used to go to as a kid when I was in NY. I can't believe how terrible the food and wait and service are here. My friends and I first wait 10 minutes, along with other customers, for the hostess to show up, and then wait longer for seats. Then, no one comes to our table for another 15 minutes (even to give us water). We had to actually flag someone down to take our order. Forward another 35 minutes - no joke - still no food. I then had to flag down someone again to ask what happened to our order. She brusquely says it's on the window and it's coming out. So it's basically right there but no one is bringing the food over. We would have gladly just walked over to get it ourselves. When we finally get our food, what a disappointment. The eggs were bland, veggies had no seasoning, the side of fruit was small and not fresh (just a couple of grapes and pineapples), the french toast was still white in the middle, and the food just tasted BAD. Even my friends were really disappointed and upset. The least they could do was comp the coffee, but nope. Terrible food, awful wait, horrible service. I am never coming back here. read more

This place reminded me of Greek diners I ate at growing up. The atmosphere is very casual and family-friendly (picture: Denny's). The food is unpretentious and good. Since we were there for breakfast, I had the 2 by 2 with pecan pancakes, bacon, and eggs. Simple enough that I could have made it at home- but I didn't have to. And I think it was about $8.99. I'm fairly certain that this is the most underrated place in Durham. Perhaps it's a location issue? Yeah not too glamorous but really, this place is awesome. Why? 1) Prices -- super low. Plus you can find all sorts of deals online usually (check-in deals on Yelp, Groupons etc) 2) Food -- so many options and all of them are so good. I usually pig out with some special omelette (plus home fries), a single pancake (just enough to satisfy the urge) and a side of toast just for kicks. Perfect Sunday morning brunch. 3) Staff -- super nice and friendly. It seems like their most frequent patrons are on the elderly side but everyone is really cool and the waiters/waitresses are great. 4) Chill -- you know what, maybe it's better this place remains underrated because there's never any line, never a wait to sit down, it's fairly quiet (good for hangovers), and you never wait too long to order or for your food to come. What a cozy place this is! Benetis is a small business in its brightest light, with a friendly staff and great food. This spot serves up an interesting fusion of breakfast/brunch/lunch with typical American diner staples and Greek/Mediterranean favorites. As offbeat as that sounds, Benetis makes it work. I've ordered the Gyro Platter which had an awesome serving size. Also, the Great Greek Gyro was very good, and had super tender meat. I also heard they have a great value for lunch buffet during the weekdays. The owner is very kind and helpful, and the service wasn't bad either. I think they could probably use more staff... but we usually go on the weekends so we aren't in a hurry. We've tried their pancakes and omelets which are delicious!!! Another Sunday, another expedition to explore a new breakfast place. I'd read good thing about Beneti's Athena and was up for a leisurely drive, so I headed over to Durham. I arrived about 1 p.m. and the place was half full so no waiting for a table. Rosa arrived at my table soon after I was seated and took my order for coffee and an iced water. I decided on the Omni omelette (sausage, bacon, ham, onions, green peppers, mushrooms and a blend of cheeses) with home fries and an English muffin. Rosa's son, Anthony, delivered my food about 15 minutes later. He asked if I needed anything else and also checked back on me a couple of times to refill my coffee and water. Later on he promptly cleared the dishes and asked if I wanted a to-go cup for my water. The omelette was good but was cooked a little more than I prefer. It had lots of fresh veggies, though they were a little stingy with the cheese. So many restaurants now serve deep fried potatoes and call them home fries (not the same thing!) so I was happy to see diced spuds that were fried on the grill with onions. The potatoes were delicious, but be sure to taste before adding salt and pepper--they use a lot of seasoning. The English muffin was good and there was a standard selection of jelly packs on the table. Overall, this was a very good breakfast for the price and Anthony's attentive service made the meal even more enjoyable. I'll be back to try the skillets and frittatas. read more

I recently had a breakfast date with my wife at Benetis and we had a very good experience overall. My wife ordered a crepe dish (can't recall the name, but it had chicken and broccoli inside) and I had the french toast breakfast special. Pros - The food is well-made and unlike many other breakfast places, not greasy at all. My fried eggs and bacon were perfectly done without too much oil and my french toast was fluffy, dusted with powdered sugar, and delicious. - The restaurant is surprisingly cozy in an old-school way. But an authentic old-school way, not in a faux-hipster old school way (like at Lucky's Deli? haha) - Service was very professional and courteous - Our waiter left an entire carafe of coffee at our table for self-serve, unlimited coffee refills. I love this at breakfast because I guzzle coffee as if my life depends on it. Cons - Being nitpicky but the restaurant isn't in the most glamorous of places. It is in the same shopping center as Sarah's Empanadas and the Glass Jug, so it's definitely on its way up but at the end of the day, it's a strip mall. - The food came out a little slowly, despite us being one of the few parties at the restaurant that morning. All in all though, Benetis was terrific and since we live so close to it, we will definitely be coming back for breakfast and maybe trying out their lunch buffet. read more

I checked out Benetis in RTP/Durham for lunch recently and my impression was so-so. I was going to go with a Greek salad, but then noticed the buffet, so I went with that instead. It was ok. I thought the buffet was kind of limited as far as selection and not really authentic Greek, but I liked a few items. A few items to note. I was with a fairly large group and those who ordered off of the menu had a long wait for their food. It was kinda busy at lunch time, but not slammed.
