Pilsner

Benchtop is a craft brewery located on Hull Street in the Manchester area. Bright and clean, modern setting with interesting beer offerings. Friendly staff, they offered samples before we ordered our beers. They do offer a small food menu too. There is plenty of seating at the bar, community tables, and 4 top tables. They have a couple of TVs as well as a selection of games to play while you are there They also have tasting rooms in both Norfolk and Richmond Street parking, located a blok from Hatch Local. What we tried: *Boissevain- German Pilsner made with Virginia malt and American adeena hops *Quick Pickle - Cucumber & carrot gose My rating rationale +1 Service +1 Food~Taste/flavor/quality +1 Presentation +1 Atmosphere/vibe +1 Value

I've been to Benchtop a few times recently, and I always enjoy the beers from them. It's cool that they have this outpost in Manchester. The vibe inside is clean, light and welcoming. Service has been helpful and friendly each time. Recently I had a strawberry shortcake sour that I enjoyed, along with a couple funky farmhouse bottles, but they do have a range of styles to suit any taste, which is cool. They also serve hot dogs. I've had the dog with chili and queso before, and it was lovely. They're also next door to Hatch Local if you're not into hot dogs for whatever reason.

I've been a couple times now and have had a great experience. The space is great, and staff is super friendly. I love that they don't mind giving a taste to help you decide on your pour. I prefer a lighter / non-hoppy beer, and they had several I enjoyed--Crispy Whip and Festbier were my top favs! They also have games and books to enjoy with a group or solo while there.

First visit here, I'd only previously enjoyed Benchtop canned (mostly IPA's) from a very ambitious Bottle Shop fairly close to where I live. We came to RVA mostly for different and new brews, check in on a few old favorite haunts and see a show. Benchtop was definitely worth a stop and actually is now on my must visit list every trip here. Clean, modern and actually quite stunning taproom IMHO (everyone has preferences). Their beer style range goes from A-Z, which I truly appreciate. Most importantly, the brews are excellent. All very balanced and super drinkable. Kevin is the man BTW! Even the hot dogs are fantastic. Go here; drink, eat & enjoy yourself.

We were excited a new brewery was added to Richmond. They had a great size menu. We are IPA drinkers and they had about 3-4 IPA options. They also seemed to have German style beers with German style glasses - my friend got a 1 liter pour which is about 33oz and was only $6.50! Everything was very well priced. I'd give the beer a 7.5/10.

It's all about the beer! This newly opened taproom has an incredibly modern feel. Immaculate woodworking on the bar and furniture that not only looks amazing but is truly comfortable. The beers are some of the best in Virginia and poured from one of the nicest draught systems I've ever seen. Small hotdog focused food menu.

I had a carrot hot dog from here. I still don't know how they made it taste so much like a hot dog. But it was insanely good.

Came here to hang out with my wife for a few hours. We didn't know they opened at 3PM on Fridays so…read morewe were the first people to show up when they opened. Parking was street only. Very big plus is our beers were half off because we also stumbled upon happy hours. The whole place was pretty big, and had a good arcade section. We definitely were able to kill time and had a lot of fun. Staff is pretty chill and let us know we could drink near the games. Can't wait to come back!

For their arcade, you have to use a card that you buy credits on to. In our opinion, the games were a little expensive. I think it's more directed towards parents who want to drink and offload their kids in this area, but for those of us already spending a good amount on drinks, the price on the games kinda sucks. We're used to a cover for all you can play or something a little more affordable. They do have a lot of great, newer games. It definitely kept us entertained for a while. They also had a great variety. It was pretty empty when we got there a little after lunch, but by 4pm or so it started raining and they were PACKED. The drinks were good, nothing special. A couple draft cocktails that tasted like you would expect. Some good beer options. It's a great spot in the area, huge bar area that can fit a lot of people and a really great patio.

This spot is a flight lover's dream, and I'm not talking about boarding passes. Big beer selection,…read moreplus wine, cider, and even non-alcoholic options? Yes please. Their "build-your-own" flight setup is genius--you choose anywhere from 2 to 10 tasters, and pricing is based on the beer you pick. Each one is clearly labeled on the menu at the bar, making it super easy to mix, match, and share. My boyfriend and I grabbed a couple each and built our own "couples flight." Highly recommend this approach if you're rolling deep with friends--rounds for the win! Now the beer. The Mango Gose was light and fruity without the pucker-punch, and the Cherry Cobbler Sour was refreshingly chill with just a little tang. But the real MVP? The Lucky Charms marshmallow beer. YES, it was bright green. YES, it smelled like it should be in a cereal bowl. And YES, it tasted like childhood nostalgia with a buzz. I was skeptical... and then I was converted. My boyfriend enjoyed several IPAs and gave them two enthusiastic hops up. Food-wise, no kitchen here--but they rotate food trucks/food setups, which keeps things fresh. They also offer the cutest little snack jars--1 for $2 or all 3 for $5. Just enough to crave that sweet (or salty) tooth! Gummy worms, M&Ms, trail mix... it's giving snack bar meets brewery energy, and I'm into it. The space is big inside with an eclectic, funky vibe (some weird wall decor, but we'll call it personality), and a solid outdoor area with long beer garden tables. Plenty of room to sip, snack, and stay a while. Would I come back? Absolutely. Would I day drink the day away here if I had more time? Without hesitation. Just shy of five stars because it's missing food on-site consistently, but the drinks, snacks, and vibe totally make it worth the visit. Lucky Charms beer forever.

I ordered a flight of all the tart beers and found them unique. The Lucky Charms one is unique and tastes like the cereal. The cider is excellent and I loved the Razzle sour ale. So refreshing! The space is one big room with plenty of tables and a corner of games. Most of the games are broken and come with missing pieces. The service was efficient and friendly enough. Staff didn't seem thrilled to have three kids at the brewery, but alas.
