My broken and tarnished chain is back in one piece for the first time in more than twelve years.
Javan H.

Bench Jeweler revived an old gift from my late grandfather just in time for what would have been his 81st birthday. In 2002 for my 13th birthday, my Papie bought me a gold chain from Sears back home in New Orleans. I had never really taken it off since then until 2008, when I broke it on my goddaughter's barette while putting her in her car seat. I kept putting off getting it repaired for years, ultimately forgetting about it altogether until I rediscovered the chain ten years later while packing for my move to Houston. Two years later, after breaking down doing a father/son book cover for work, I decided to get my chain fixed on the advent of my 31st and what would've been Papie's 81st birthday. Yelp recommended Bench Jeweler inside of Joe V's on 1960. They're a family-owned business operating in one of the vendor booths at the front of the store. I dropped off my chain to the son, who explained that all it would take to fix it was a rinse and a quick soldier. But with it being 3:00 in the evening and them closing in a few hours, he told me to "come back anytime tomorrow (Thursday)." When I picked my chain up from the dad that following afternoon, it looked brand new. No longer tarnished, no longer broken, my beloved chain was alive again. I put it on tonight, the night of June 19th, the night of my late grandfather's 81st birthday, for the first time in twelve years. I feel like he's with me again. Special thanks the the family at Bench Jeweler.

Before and after

My watch had the 6 o'clock marker fall out of place and get caught in the hands so that the time stood still. All I wanted was for the marker to be removed so that the watch can function normally again. Everywhere I went quoted me about $90 to take it apart to clean, but all I wanted was for the marker to be removed. I called Danny and he said he could make it happen at a much more reasonable price. Not only was Danny able to take the watch apart at a reasonable price, and not only did he remove the marker so that it may work again, but he also put the marker back and returned the watch to me the next day. Thanks Danny.

He did a great job fixing my hubby's chain! You can barely tell it was repaired! It's located inside Joe V's Smart Shop.

I don't recommend if you want a jeweler with integrity!! I went in here with a bunch of different…read morepieces of jewelry to see about selling them. I understand that the point of them buying is be able to resell and make a profit, but the part that makes it so grimey is that they lied about the value of the pieces entirely. I understood that they were on some BS when they offered me $2k for a Cartier bracelet that is reselling in comps for around $15k consistently. They gave me insanely lowball offers on the rest, and I ended up getting rid of a ring that I did not care about at all for a few hundred bucks. THIS is the part that made me write a review...they told me the tennis bracelet I had was of the lowest clarity diamonds possible and that it was 14 karat gold and that they could give me $615 for it. That it would retail at $1800-$2k. I went today to get appraisal is done from an extremely reputable and awarded appraiser and get this... It's 3 carats of VS diamonds and it's 18 karat gold resale retail value at $10,700. Are you kidding me??? They straight LIED thinking I would take that lil $615 and never know. I was wasn't desperate, I'm purging unwanted things. And yes, I understand there might be a little bit of downplay on the value of something so that you'll get rid of it and they can have a come up - but this place sells jewelry as well. So if you're going to lie to me and tell me that it's 14 karat gold when it's 18 and that it's made of low quality diamonds when they're VS , then would you tell someone the opposite when they're buying a piece of jewelry from you?? Gross. Zero integrity, zero honesty.
