What a great way to kick off the first day of spring! Ben and Jerry offering ice cream cones and cups off your choosing. Rice village students were on the scene collecting donations for their robotics team, I was happy to contribute. By donating ($10) you also skip the line and offered an upgraded waffle cone with extra scoops! You must know which flavor you're selecting upon entry to stand in correct line, I don't believe they were doing any sampling at the moment. Definitely would've saved me a return/redo trip if informed to collect multiple cones at first walk through. You could repeatedly get in line unlimited times. Twice was plenty, but just one would've sufficed if I had known prior to my first entry. I try the marshmallow cloud (blue color) which I loved (cookie dough, chocolate bits, & marshmallows); and butter pecan. Service was friendly and very kind on a very busy day. They had a live DJ. Face painting, balloon shaping and games for the kids as well. A mom was selling a book her 8 year old son wrote about "Turbo's big red switch" about controlling your anger & behavior. The Tonight Dough flavor from Ben and Jerry's is one of my favorites of all time, so we got that and then mango for something fruity. They were both so good, and the price was pretty good for the quantity we got. Some places it's $8 for 2 even smaller scoops than what we got. The ambiance is also super cute outside because there's a mural on the wall, and even inside, it's very intimate and cozy. We came here pretty late - maybe an hour or less before closing, and even though their lobby was closed, they allowed us to sit in their outdoor patio area or in their separate little room to the side. read more

I've driven past this Ben & Jerry's for years and finally made the stop and wow, what a treat. I've never been in a standalone Ben & Jerry's before, and honestly? Way more delicious than just grabbing a pint from the store. Maybe it's the atmosphere, maybe it's the perfect scoop texture, but it hit different. It also felt like there were way more flavors than I'm used to seeing at the grocery store... or maybe I've just never paid enough attention while holding a frosty carton in aisle 5. Either way, I was impressed. Even though they had a bunch of cones ready to go, the staff made me a fresh one. Super nice touch! Only downside was that it could've used a little more batter. Mine had a few tiny holes that turned into leak zones. I ended up with ice cream all over my hands like a kid at summer camp. The worker was super kind and patient, and the whole vibe was refreshing. Nothing beats enjoying a scoop on the patio. Houston's ice cream scene can be hit or miss, but this place was a definite win. And hey--it also feels good to support a business like Ben & Jerry's that actively supports causes and takes a stand on important social and political issues. Many years ago, when my kids were much younger our favorite day at Ben & Jerry's was Free Cone Day. Unlimited ice cream after school for free. As they binged on scoops of Cherry Garcia, Phish Food, New York Super Fudge Chunk and Dulce De-lish, they also made memories at our annual day of "We all scream for Ice Cream." How many times would they go to get another scoop? Cup or cone? Over the years, they realized less cones meant they could indulge in more scoops of ice cream. On one outing, they went head to head with a group of Rice University students. I think they thought that was the coolest as they compared notes. Chubby Hubby: The first thing that came to my mind when I spotted this flavor was "dad bod", but with a name like Chubby Hubby, what else should I be thinking? The Ben & Jerry's (BJ's) pint earns its name as it comes in at 1,400 calories if eaten in a single sitting. Each pint contains vanilla malt ice cream with peanutty fudge-covered pretzels with fudge & peanut buttery swirls. What stands out to me as being its most unique aspect is the fudge-covered pretzels. There was a fair amount of them, most had a crispy/crunchy texture, while a couple were somewhat soft and soggy. Not my favorite part of this pint, but not bad either. What won me over was the thick and abundant fudge swirls. Absolutely phenomenal! The peanut butter swirls were not as thick or numerous, but there were enough to add just the right amount of peanut buttery flavor to complement the fudge and vanilla malt. Speaking of vanilla malt, it worked fine as a mostly neutral base flavor as the fudge and peanut butter easily overpower it. This is another fantastic flavor from BJ's that just misses my top 5 but would be in my top 10. I went here on a Tuesday afternoon to celebrate getting through some exams. Ben & Jerry's is one of the few ice cream places I can still go to and enjoy due to having to rely on nondairy ice cream. I got my nondairy strawberry cheesecake ice cream that I first fell in love with at the shop down in Galveston. Be sure to bring your card, while they still somewhat take cash, they are moving towards cashless which I don't totally agree with (I understand safety but sometimes its easier to carry some money as you never know when credit card systems go down) The man behind the counter was nice enough to let me pay with cash in which I left a good tip in the tip jar that ironically only had cash in it. Other then that, it was a great visit. 2 scoops in a waffle cone cost me roughly around $11. read more

For the last couple of weeks I've been on a mission to nab a pint of Marshmallow Sky, you know the marshmallow ice cream with chocolate chocolate and chocolate chip cookie dough chunks. I tried HEB, no luck, Whole Foods, no luck, Kroger, naw, even Walgreens, nope! That's when I remembered I could go to the source, the scoop shop! Accessing this shop from across the street is...tricky, Kirby Dr. can collect a lot of traffic, there is no traffic light, and the parking lot is odd, but your patience will be rewarded. Opening the door, it was just a hungry me, the Ben and Jerry's team member, catchy music, and the glorious smell of waffle cone. They offer a pretty ample selection! Although I came intending to grab one, singular pint of Marshmallow Sky, I left with that, a pint of Impretzively Fudged (freshly scooped just got me by the team member), and a scoop of New York Super Fudge Chunk in one of those cone bowls complete with hot fudge drizzle. The team member was a friendly, non-judgmental accomplice in my gluttony. They even packed my pints with three little wooden spoons, so I could pretend like I would share! And with that we pulled into an empty store mid-week. It's Ben and Jerry's the only wrong they have ever done to me was close down the location in 1960. I got the New York super fudge chuck mixed with caramel praline, which was amazing. Ben n Jerry's has the best ice cream and it's a shame there is only one shop in Houston. I must say I felt sorry for the young lady working she was by herself and people were just pouring in but she did as best as she could to hold the fort down. I liked that it was a non-dairy option but still had great caramel and cookie flavors. I also tried the Berry Berry Extraordinary Sorbet but I couldn't snag a picture sadly because it was pretty hot so it melted quickly but it was amazing as well. Parking was really difficult to find and we walked about a block to get to the establishment. The inside is fairly small. There was no seating inside but there is a patio with seating outside. A small cup will get you two scoops of ice cream. I ordered the new york chunky and blue marshmallow and they were both delicious. I am docking a star because the tables need to be cleaned and the ice cream is a little bit expensive. The small ice cream was around $8 but you get two scoops. I signed up for their rewards program which will get you 10% off every time you buy anything in the store and a free scoop for your birthday. They also sell ice cream pints, milkshake, sundaes, and ice cream cake. I believe you can also get a customized ice cream cake if you order ahead of time. Parking may be challenging if it is busy but people just usually buy ice cream and go. They do have a little outside patio if you would like to hang out outside because it gets pretty cold inside. I came on national ice cream cone day and the whole corner was packed! I had to park in another plaza and walk over. The line for the storefront was pretty long as it had wrapped around the block meanwhile there was another line for the catering ice cream truck. We had gotten in the line to go in the store first and the line was moving pretty quickly. There were a variety of flavors so picking just one flavor was a hard decision but you honestly can't go wrong with any of them. I ended up choosing the Tonight Dough and it was tasty and sweet. On this day you could get endless scoops in a waffle cone if you keep going back in line and that's what I did next but with the ice cream truck. The truck didn't have as many flavors so I settled for the chocolate chip dough. I tried the pineapple passionfruit sorbet and a coffee flavor (can't remember which one specifically, but I believe it was the coffee coffee coffee buzz buzz buzz). The coffee coffee coffee was already one of my favorites, but the sorbet blew me away! I truly regret not being able to find it in stores near me.
