Just an amazing warm non stressed visit. Everybody there was just awesome to me. I had followed up upon Dr Brian Patel's instructions to sturdy's orthopedic office. And I gotta tell ya. Again. Such warm welcome and assistance. There I had the great pleasure of meeting Stephen Anderson, and the Staff on the 2nd floor. Ashley is just truly an amazing beautiful woman that took great care of me. Next was Sarah, who also was totally incredibly awesome to me. With gentle hands and touches they all made me feel really comfortable and relaxed. I can't say enough. But what an awesome place. I give sturdy a five . If there's a ten . I'd give it. Ty sturdy. And your kindness.

I prepared for a hernia surgery this morning, Thursday, Oct 8th. I did everything I needed to; as my ride was about to deliver me there for the 830A admittance, I get a call from my surgeon and the anesthesiologist explaining that the surgery is being cancelled. I arrive with my brother to learn the situation. Before setting this surgery up, I needed an echocardiogram; this appointment was scheduled for Thursday, Oct 1st. I went to the lobby and reported to the area to have my echo. The receptionist there told me I was not on the schedule. She proceeded to call another department where I heard her say, "His name is not in my scheduling program." Another woman came out to greet me and said that my echo was being done in another building (20 Oneil Blvd) and to follow her. She politely explained that there are two scheduling systems and that was the cause of confusion. My echocardiogram was so last minute that I was added to a different system. However, no one told me this. The following Monday, Oct 5th, I awaited the results of my echo. Unfortunately, my heart doc was absent due to a family emergency. Without the results of the echo, I needed to change plans and not lose the PTO from work. However, I received a web portal message from my heart doctor saying my heart looked good enough for the hernia procedure. I contacted the day surgery receptionist to communicate this, and I felt relief that this was going to happen. Between Monday, Oct 5th and today on Thursday, Oct 8th, I received two phone calls from staff giving me instructions on bathing with the antiseptic soap, to avoid eating or drinking past 12AM this morning, and to have a trusted driver to bring me home. At no time was I aware that the day surgery staff couldn't contact the heart cardiology department, or rather, they would not return the requests for disclosure of my echocardiogram results. They were also not aware of the message sent to me via web portal; only later did I see that it was a private message. Sadly, this was not a one-time occurrence. Back in May 2026, I tried to have my hernia surgery. One week before the date, I got a call from the day surgery receptionist that the anesthesiologist wouldn't sign off on my procedure due to old records of my heart's health. [SIDE NOTE: I had heart failure after my father's passing in April 2023. I was treated at Sturdy Hospital, RI Hospital, and Morton Hospital for this condition.] I was instructed by the receptionist to contact Morton Hospital Cardiology to transfer my health records to them. I called Morton Hospital, faxed them my signed signature approving the release, and nothing came of it. Either no records were sent or no records were received properly. Later that day, the receptionist told me that the procedure was canceled outright and I would have to consult with the cardiology department further. Throughout this whole ordeal of getting my hernia surgery, I have done what I needed to, from taking meds and showing up for appointments. In addition, I have made many calls acting as the message go-between trying to get various departments to talk to each other; why am I doing THIS as the patient? I did register my complaint on exiting this morning. I spoke to two women in the Sturdy Hospital Chapel. While they did apologize profusely, they asked if there's anything they can do to make it right. My response, "Get your ship in order." The breakdown of communication here is appalling.

I ended up staying two nights and have nothing bad to say about this play. Even the food was good. Everyone from the cleaning staff to the doctors were outstanding. Special shout out to the nurses on the McCann unit 2nd floor and ER nurse Kayley. They were all helpful, caring sweet people. These are the people that should be nurses.

They sent him home that day and never sent a visiting nurse. The nursing agency called 5 days later to set up an appointment. The phone number on the discharge papers was a corporate fax number so I could not reach them and messages I left at the hospital were never returned. The first morning home he had a seizure, aspirated and ended up in the ER and ultimately a week in the hospital. In spite of my giving them a list of his medication several times and to a bunch of people were ignored and they continued to omit his seizure medication. Every day there was a shortage of nurses in spite of my having an activated health care proxy, they ignored me. He was admitted for pnumonia cause by aspirating yet the first morning I walked in the was a big sign above his bed sayin NPO, and he was sitting in bed with a tray of food and a can of ginger ale with a straw. When I asked about the sign the nurse came in, pulled it off the wall and walked out. I had to feed him so he wouldn't choke. Each day they would ask him to rate his pain from 1 to 10, he would say 35, 14 unaware what they were asking and in spite of my complaining the kept pumping him with pain meds. Once I pulled him out of there his primary care doctor took blood work and discovered liver problems. Most likely from the overdosing of pain meds. When asked if his knee hurt he said no and never needed even a Tylenol after leaving the hospital. I had called the attending doctor and nurse to the room because he was showing signs of having a seizure, and started having a seizure as we all stood bedside. When I pointed it out, the nurse said she was unaware that he had a seizure disorder and started putting pads around his bed to prevent harm. They did not recognize basic signs of a seizure. Then they had to leave for a team meeting. 10 minutes later the doctor came in and told me not to be alarmed but he was going to have someone look at my brother. Next thing I know a code was called, every nurse in the hospital arrived and they told me to leave the room. I stood in the hallway watching as the room filled with hospital staff. They rushed him out and they told me he was having a stroke. A couple hours later I got a call from the neurologist and asked me what I thought was going on and when I told her he was having a seizure, she agreed. They wanted to send him to a rehab facility but I insisted they send him home, which they did by ambulance at 8 o'clock at night. The nurse called to tell me he was on the way and she didn't have time to explain anything because they were short 2 nurses, and she would send the discharge paperwork with them. The discharge paperwork was for another patient, with every piece of personal information I could imagine from this date of birth, employment, insurance info, even his wife's name. It didn't end there, I had to fax a letter to the surgeon to tell him it had been 15 days Ince surgery and he still had no visiting nurse and no physical therapy for 15 days. Two days later we finally saw a nurse.

Her assistant is great, and the office staff for the most part is very nice and helpful, but it takes hours to get a call back on an issue. The answering service is a live person, but they are very limited in their message taking abilities, etc. They basically just tell you the office is closed and call back later. I do not like some of the other doctors in the practice and will not see them, even though that is rarely an option when my doctor is not available.

Today, 1/20/22 I drove to NAMC to see if my records had been received and was told they were not. I then drove to my current physician's office asking if they had received a fax request for my medical records. It turns out the office staff at NAMC never sent the requests for my medical records! As a result, I will not be leaving my current doctor because if the NAMC office staff cannot handle 2 faxes, I will not put my health in their hands. Another problem with this facility is it is very difficult to get a hold of them by phone.
