Good value, great service. My dad, who had ReSound hearing aids for 3 1/2 years, was ready for an upgrade and to explore latest options. His audiologist recommended Starkey, and Beltone is a preferred partner for that Manufacturer in orange county. I was impressed with Kelvin's knowledge, customer orientation, and attention to detail from my first phone call to the two hours he spent customizing the fit and quality of sound on my dad's new Starkey Livio 2400 rechargeable hearing aid. I've been to other audiologists with him, and Beltone's equipment is top of its class in terms of latest technology - including the real-ear test which is a technology that ensures the patient is actually hearing the way the hearing aid is intended to work. (Not every one of the 3 other starkey vendors I spoke with have this, so it was reassuring to see how Beltone invested in this service for customers.) My father reports that the quality of sound -- the "brilliance" of clarity is even better than his last pair. I learned, a patient may be impressed by the improvements in their ability to hear, yet not realize that there still a fair gap between the improvements as it is versus what their full potential is for best hearing at their current level of loss. I was impressed by Beltone's ability to simulate sounds at restaurants, outdoors, in the car, and even in the kitchen: Kelvin for example played the pre-recorded sounds of running water and clanking dishes as he adjusted the settings on dad's hearing aid, to be able to tone down background noise and bring forward the crispness of hearing in the foreground. I was also impressed by the way that a patient can visually see which sounds are more difficult for their ear to capture, and how the hearing aids can be adjusted to amplify and clarify at the frequencies where they are most challenged. It's early in our relationship and e shall see about the continued quality of service during the 4- year warranty we were able to obtain with this set. I have never been given so much attention and concern to my hearing issues. Kevin is very knowledgeable and with his state of the art equipment, he was able to achieve what other audiologist's weren't able to give me. I have been wearing hearing aids for about ten years now. I am retired. And living on a fixed income. I lost 1/3 of my income when my husband died two years ago. I just wanted to give you the backround of my situation. I needed hearing aids. Mine were four years old. I bought extra insurance that covered hearing aids, that is what I thought. The insurance was terrible. I started crying at the office because of the insurance. But let me tell you what happened. My doctor found a way for me to get hearing aids. She cared. Kelvin Kim, the audiologist in the office of two Dr. Tans, is the BEST!! He works out of the 3530 Atlantic Blvd., Long Beach office and also at 1020 Bastanchury Rd., Fullerton office. He originally fitted me with outstanding Beltone hearing aids 4 years ago at an outstandingly fair price. I know because I checked at Costco!! Today he upgraded me due to the loss of one of my aids while in Maui last week. Again he gave me a very fair price! He also services one's aids whenever needed. I read with interest your post this morning and I believe you may be a little off base with some comments. I am an audiologist and have served the older population (just like your mother) for almost 30 years. You might find this a surprise, but many elderly patients will refuse to get help for their condition unless they can have something small and hidden. VANITY is a huge issue regardless of age. Since I do not know your mother I will not assume this. On the matter of a hearing aid dealer (now generally called hearing aid specialists) most all states require licensure which includes an examination and a demonstration of competency. I work in a facility with audiologists and licensed hearing aid specialists (whom you call dealers) and we all utilize the same test equipment, procedures, etc. The difference you are talking about is education. Think of it this way - I know bankers and other professional people who have education in a field totally unrelated to their career. This however, does not make them incompetent or any less talented in their chosen field of endeavor. As far as your mother - why don;t you go with her to her next follow-up appointment or better yet call and make an appointment for her and find out what the hearing aid specialist can do for her. It may be possible to make an exchange to a different fitting (assuming your mother wants that). Don't just complain - go with her and see what can be done. I would imaginge you will deal with people who really care about people like your mother. PS. I have been hearing impaired for over 40 years - I lost most of my hearing at age 5. As a result I have been to countless audiologists including those at the house clinic in Los Angeles. I replace my hearing aids every 2 years because the technology improves at about that rate. Because I have been to many good audiologists, and because I'm a techie at heart, I am pretty critical of their abilities. That being said - I was blown away at what a great experience I had with Kelvin Kim. He fitted me with the new state of the art Beltone aids. He spent over two hours with me adjusting the aids to accommodate my hearing loss. I am almost deaf - I only have about 13% of normal hearing but with his expertise, and the fantastic new technology, I am able to hear enough to function better than ever. Kelvin Kim is so passionate about his craft that he even drove up to Los Angeles (about 40 miles from his office) and made a house call to fine tune these hearing aids the night before he left on vacation just to be sure that I would be comfortable while he was gone. He is hands down the best audiologist I have experienced. read more

Six years ago I brought my father-in-law to this company to spend $6,000 on new hearing aids. My father-in-law passed away, leaving behind his Beltone hearing aids. This company wanted to charge $300 per side to program them to fit me - a total of $600!!!!! Highway robbery. I never received a return call to even discuss the matter. No wonder this company is losing all its business to a local audiologist who used to work there. Watch your wallet when you enter the doors at this establishment. read more
