Saw this place as we were driving by and thought how "authentic" could they get to the REAL Hawaiian Shaved Ice so I stayed away for awhile. I finally went in and ordered a Large Cherry Shaved Ice (boring, I know but I LOVE Cherry!). Watching the girls make the shaved ice, I knew it wasn't gonna be the typical Little League ballgame snowcone of ice that you have to chew. The best way to descrive it is as light as snow. They are not tight with the flavoring either which can definitely kill the experience. The flavoring is well absorbed into the ice so you're not tasting just ice and drinking the syrup at the bottom. They have a frequent buyer card and BOGO deals on Tuesdays & Thursdays I think. Regular prices are rather inexpensive. It's a small place but bright and clean. They started putting a few sets of table and chairs outside as well and everytime I have gone, there are always places to sit. I am SO glad I finally stopped and will continue to be a regular! read more

Went today due to everyone's great reviews. I haven't had Hawaiian shaved ice since I was last in Hawaii. We loved it. It was very good. Very clean place. Service was good. The only thing keeping me from giving it one more star is the fact that there isn't allot of seating. Very scarce. Other than that totally worth the 35 minute drive. We will be back. read more

If I could put no stars I would! The place is great. The shaved ice is our families favorite. With that said, the one thing that bothers me the most is rude customer service! All of the staff is wonderful with one exception, a woman (I was told is the owner) who has terrible CUSTOMER service. I'm talking about being flat out rude to the lifeline of your business, the customers. We tolerate this rudeness because we love the shaved ice. If indeed this woman is the owner, I have a suggestion run a business that you do not deal with people, you are hurting your business! Once we find another place that has the same shaved ice. We will never be back! We actually don't go if we see her behind the counter as it is now. Today we came in and did realize this rude woman was there and had the same terrible experience. Wouldn't have even known this place was there except for the nice young man waving his sign on Foothill Blvd. That caught our attention so we pulled in and were pleasantly suprised! Excellent choice of flavors, friendly service. We went several times when the weather was hot. read more

Went to Below Zero today with my aunt. The process that took place was: the customer placed the order, paid, then the employee made what was ordered and gave it to the customer. This process took place for all the customers in front of us. We were at the end of the line. The employee then took our order. As I was paying, a lady walked in with three young children that looked 3, 4, and 5 years of age. Once the payment was completed, the employee place my order to the side. I stood there waiting for her to complete it as she did with everyone else who was in front of us. She ignored us and asked the lady who walked in with her three kids what they wanted. The children were indecisive and kept going back and forth on what they wanted. After some time of the children going back and forth, I asked the employee to please complete my order because I needed to leave. She stared at me and turned around to continue to wait for the lady with the three children to make up there minds. I again asked the employee to finish my order. I asked her to complete it as she did with the previous customers I stood behind and waited. She pretty much ignored me again until the lady with the three children asked her to complete my order. I said thank you and explained that my aunt and I have been at the hospital with my mother for over a month and are exhausted. We just wanted ice cream and to go home. Well, she finished my order but was not nice about it. I'm not sure why she treated us differently then the crowds in front of us. It was obvious, the three children were going to take some time with their decision. Very disappointed. Regret coming in. read more

The shave ice here is amazing. What is not amazing is the customer service. My family was ignored when we walked in (a simple hello would have sufficed). The women behind the counter look miserable and had a poor attitude. I tried to use my loyalty card which is stamped with a unique hole punch that I couldn't possibly replicate. I had one more to fill up based on the number of punches before I got the free one but because it wasn't centered correctly I didn't get "credit" for it. She said the person must have just made a mistake and refused to honor it. We have been coming here since they opened on a regular basis and the attitude is always pretty poor but this is the last straw. If they are willing to quibble over their own employees "error" vs honoring there filled card, I can take my business elsewhere. read more

After speaking to a person the store employee said was the "owner" (he wasn't) about a problem with redeeming a punch card, (he scolded me for putting his employees in an awkward situation) I've decided it's not worth it. Omg! This place is great! The Thrifty ice cream is a blast from the past!!! They have so many different flavors and combos it's ridiculous!!! I'm my boring self, so I got pistachio and rocky road. $2!!!!!! WHAT?!?! Everyone there were getting the shaved ice. They seemed very happy with their orders. I've heard of the dreaded black haired nasty lady. She wasn't here today. A middle aged red haired lady, a brand new boy, and another teenaged girl were all there. The lady was holding down the fort, the teenaged girl was holding her own and the boy looked like a deer in headlights! Welcome to the working world!!!i guess I was there once too. TEN STARS!! This spot was recommended by the niece of my adopted aunt. It's that awesome. She told her who told me about a shaved ice place on foothill close to campus. I found the place on yelp and three months later we determined as blindfolded kids at a piñata discovered, bliss. (AFTER we circled the same four blocks for a few minutes) I had to call because I used maps and still was soo confused. The man that answered super friendly and through. I found it so easily. The dessertist was very helpful as we entered to a clean cool lobby storefront. He was busy taking orders recommending flavors, describing combinations, and offering samples. So many options but all of the ices were made flawlessly piled high and beautiful. Yes, the drizzle of caramel of a snickers(#8 )changed my order for the third time. I ended up with a scoop of vanilla ice cream green apple, banana, and coconut shaved ice topped with caramel and condensed milk. FANTASTIC! My daughter got vanilla ice cream, popcorn and dill pickle shaved ice. Yep she's adventurous. Popcorn was great. Dill pickle... interesting. The guy that worked today better be the owner or needs a raise because he was the best. Go to Below Zero and if you get the same guy, tip him a buck. This place is the most disappointing shaved ice business. The worst part is it's the only one of it's kind for now. The hours change more frequently then any business I've ever ran into. I mean multiple sites have different hours, only open from 12-5, but worst of all it never opens on time. If it's cloudy outside it's useless to stop by, because guessing if they will open is like hitting the mega million jackpot. they aren't open on rainy days, and if the planets don't aline correctly and something happens, it will be closed as well. Before I forget, if you plan on stopping by sometime soon make sure you drive by before just in case they have a paper on the window notifying they will be closed for some random event. Yes I asked once why they closed and the response was, "we posted it on the window a week before". Yes, I drive by this place for closing notifications. This place is a joke, I mean why stay open? it's clearly not being used to its potential, I'm surprised it stays open. You might as well post when you actually might be open. As far as the shaved ice goes, it's good. Hard to mess that up, thrifty ice cream, franchise flavoring syrup. my kids could work here.
