If I could leave a zero star review I would. I chose this salon because of its convenient location approximate to my home as well as It was suggested to me as lightening experts, that they are not. I went in with black hair, I wanted to start the process of lightening it. Yes I've been platinum blonde before and am fully aware of the long and tedious process for hair lightening. I went in and had my whole head pre lightened with 20 volume.... before she could even finish doing her foils she was already pulling the previous placed ones off. The stylist had two others help her. With my hair in all sorts of stages of light, the stylist tried to tone it.... it did not work. So instead of using "senior" stylist skills as I was told she was, she threw on a level 5 PERMANENT colour. The end result was almost as dark as the black I walked in with! After 5 hours and 500 dollars!!! The stylist did mention as far as toning, if that's the route we went, I would have to come back bi weekly for toning, however she went with the dark permanent colour route. I was literally gonna choke on the money however after two washes my hair was hideous not to mention my cut was soooo crooked and uneven. I emailed the manager/owner for a partial refund, sending pictures and also professional opinions of 3 senior master stylists in this city from 3 Independant salons who all said the same, this was not senior stylist work and looked horrible. I did not want my hair touched again by anyone in this salon as my senior stylist was not that. She was a junior a year and a half ago!!! I felt totally dupped!! My hair was a hard case and not appropriate for a junior stylist. The owner offered me to return, which I declined. I asked for a partial refund as I understand product cost money, as well as said the stylist could keep her tip. I was talked down to! Given hairstylist mumble jumble to make me feel stupid and in the end she dragged in mutual friends which had nothing to do with this transaction. I didn't even know there was a connection when I chose this salon. Needless to say I never got any resolution from the owner and she declined to respond any further. I paid another master stylist to correct their hideous mistakes and lost 4 inches of hair because of it. Save your money as you could probably do your hair yourself for what I got here. Plus if you feel like being demeaned than this maybe is a great place... never ever ever will I recommend this place and save yourself the loss. Wow Katie did an awesome job on my hair. I came in not knowing what I wanted, told her my hair issue and she took my very vague vision and my hair turned out magical! Beautiful Color and my hair was so shiny after. My cut was perfect too, I hate when you say a tiny trim and they take off 4 inches!! I have gone here a few times and like the finished product of my hair, but sometimes I find the language and talk a bit too crude for a business. Not a place I'd take my children too and I have questioned finding another salon as a result. Yes, I've heard them use the foul language when children are in the salon! As well, I find the price of getting my hair done is very inconsistent between the appointments.... ?? So I will be keeping an eye and questioning on that because I generally have the same thing done to my hair and length has not changed. They tend to take on apprentices and that is fine if you want them to do your hair meaning you booked the appointment with an apprentice. But if I am paying FULL PRICE and I have BOOKED with a senior stylist, she better be the only one touching hair! I used to not say anything if they got the apprentice to finish putting the colour on, wash, and tone my hair even though it bothered me. However, last time the apprentice got dye in my eye badly and it was handled poorly by the apprentice and salon. I should not have to ask, after saying my eyes are burning with tears three times, finally for a moisten clothe! read more

My daughter and I put full trust in Danielle & Bailey for our hair, they are extremely knowledgeable and talented. They listen, give great and honest advice, are on point with colors, bleaching, balayage, cuts, etc. My daughter has tried Katie in the past for one appt and would not see her again. She didn't listen to the length of hair my daughter wanted cut and cut off too much without asking...in her defense, maybe she was having an off day as we've seen happy clients and nice hair leaving from her chair. The whole staff at Below Hair Studio I think are FABULOUS. I always see Renee, and she is the first hairstylist I have gone back to more than twice. She always worries about the integrity of my hair instead of just trying to get me in and out the door. And she never guilt-trips me when I take a lot longer to come in for a trim like previous salons have done. I seriously look forward to getting my hair done because it always feels like a girls-day-out. All the girls there are very personable, and you can interact with other clients while you're in there. A mistake was made with a booking for a wedding updo for myself and all the other bridesmaids, and Bailey was very quick to admit she was the one who didn't save the reservation and jumped in to save the day to do my hair. Very grateful I found this salon. The money you pay is worth every penny in my opinion and I recommend it to anyone looking for a new salon. read more

I would not recommend this salon. My girlfriend and I had appointments this afternoon for colour with a junior stylist, Katie. She did not introduce herself and was not overly personable. I was pleased with the head of colour she did for me, although I was concerned about the highlights that my girlfriend received. Katie messed up the highlights (which came out orange in colour) and had to take extra time to tone down and fix the highlights. She was rude and unapologetic about this. When it came time to pay, the total was much more than I was quoted on the phone when I made the appointments. Apparently although a head of colour is $60, it is an extra $32 for a wash and blow-dry. We didn't even receive product or styling. I protested that the colour has to be washed out after a colour, and was told by Katie that the wash is free but the blow dry is extra. So she dried my hair for a $32 charge without clarifying this? Unacceptable. It was the same for my girlfriend's hair. Although the manager was polite, she did nothing to correct the situation and told me that $92 is still a good price for colour. I agreed that it may be, but not when you quote $60. I will be contacting the owner and will not return to this salon. Save your time, money, and patience and go elsewhere. Very unprofessional. read more

My girlfriend went there to get some colour done to her hair. First off, it was very hard to get hold of them and they don't reply back very quickly. Eventually after a couple days they called back to make an appointment. So she made one and went down. She told them what she wanted and they said no problem. It cost $110 dollars and then they said she had to come back for another application because it wasn't working. The following day she went back and they did it again and charged her again, another $110. It was worse. My girlfriend was not happy and they said they could try to fix it for another $110. Honestly if you don't know what you are doing, don't even try. If you can't do it right, you can't charge your customer to fix it. She ended up going to another salon to get it done properly. Lesson learned. On top they add on extra styling when she didn't ask for it and charging her for that. Seriously.... Not happy. Never going back. read more
