While our industry was not within his area of expertise, he had been recommended by an associate. The current state report was developed from employee interviews and data the company already owned. While it was nice to have a summary, there wasn't much of a value-add, unfortunately. There were known issues, primarily with a recent ERP migration, and we were looking for a way forward. The recommendations were delivered emphatically and, we thought, credibly. Turned out to be stunningly poor advice. The recommended solutions were costly and superficial, setting the organization back by at least two years, conservatively. In retrospect, the recommendations consisted of 1) conventional wisdom that could just as well have come from a quality hour with Google and 2) echoing back what the CEO already believed were the problems and solutions. For example, rather than call out the crippling lack of in-house expertise, the company was encouraged to--in effect--double down by engaging in still more complex, technical projects with even less in-house expertise. In fairness, one could say that the worst ideas may not have originated with Mr. Gangal. Then again, he did validate them. Personable guy, and maybe things would have been different if he'd been more familiar with our business or market.

However, as many others have said, you just can't be too careful or get too comfortable in today's economic climate. I would much rather be prepared for the worst, and hope for the best. When Yelp offered a free 15 minute session with Timothy, I wanted to give it a try. I've helped others with their resumes in past years, but looking at my own is always so much harder. It really needed a brush-up. Tim's advice was wonderful, clear, and so easy to follow. He provided me with templates that would be more attractive to any potential readers. Over the next few weeks, I plan on using one of the templates to pop my own information in, and have it at the ready "just in case."

I would have probably given up the whole self employed business long ago if not for Joe. I found Joe through some other colleagues in the Boston photography network years ago. I'll admit I was more than clueless about how to keep my bookkeeping organized and he took me under his wing, took the chaos and made sense of it all. Now I do most of the bookkeeping on my own and he gives it a look once a month to make sure I'm on track. In a "teach a man to fish...." sort of a way. Monthly, quarterly and annual taxes are a breeze now and I can confidently make business purchases and know the overall health of the business. If you're a small business (he has a keen knowledge of the photography business - take a look at his client list!! http://www.nakataconsulting.org/links.php ), but also for restaurants, etc... He'll do your sales taxes, bookkeeping, consulting and all at reasonable rates. I've referred him to friends (non-business owners) as well and he'll definitely take care of you. I had tried many things, but ultimately meeting and working with Sandy was one of the major turning points in my search. While working with Sandy she was a valuable resource; an objective voice, a sounding board, and most importantly, a guide in my search. While Sandy won't find you a new job or pick your next career, she will put together a process (and make you stick to it) and give you the tools to get you to where you want and need to be. After I did move forward and into a new position, I worked with Sandy, to make sure my uptake and priorities in my new role set me up for success. I can honestly say, not only did Sandy help me in my search, she has helped me become more aware of myself, what works for me, what I need to improve, and what I should try to limit exposure to. I value these items almost as much if not more than the job search help, as this self awareness will not only help me today, but throughout my career! I recommend Sandy Machson to anyone looking for a Career help (whether looking for a change or looking to perform at their peak), as she she is flexible, smart, and caring! (Also don't believe me?
