TLDR: If you have a very basic tax return or if you are someone who is so wealthy that you often…read morefind people bending over to kiss your feet, Chuck King may provide adequate tax services. If you're anywhere in between, I would recommend looking elsewhere. I was reluctant to write this review because Chuck actually seems like a nice guy who probably got some bad advice from a business magazine in 1987 and took it as gospel--the advice being something along the lines of focusing on wealthy people or people who can do the most for you in return and not wasting much time on the "small folk". That may have worked 25 years ago, but isn't a great philosophy in the Internet age where everyone has a voice. I made an appointment to file my annual taxes with Chuck at least a month and a half before the April 15th deadline. The appointment went pretty well for the most part. He seemed friendly enough and confident in his abilities. My return had a small handful of complications that made it a bit more involved than a basic filing, but nothing earth shattering. There were about 3 or 4 things Chuck needed to research how to file before we finalized the return. That is totally fine. Tax law is complicated and I don't expect professionals to have all of the answers offhand. He told me we could leave things 98% complete and he would figure out how to tie up the loose ends later and confirm with me once everything was complete. He offered to let me pay when the taxes were filed, but I opted to pay on the spot. I'm not sure if this had any impact on what transpired next. It started off normal at first. Chuck would call me to check in every two days or so to inform me of his progress on closing out the open items on my filing. Then he began to go dark on me. I started having to call him for updates. He was not apologetic at all--he was actually frustrated that I was bothering him by checking in on a service that I paid for but didn't receive. He told me his methodology is as follows: for every filing he can't complete on the spot, he puts it into a pile towards the back of his office. When he has downtime, he works on the outstanding items in order from "most important client" to "least important client". These are his words, not mine. As you may have guessed, I was a very low priority/low income client to him and he made that very clear numerous times. To make a long story short(er), I went through a series of very painful emails, phone calls and in-person visits with Chuck to get my filing pushed through. The weaker I was on the phone, the more he tried to bully me, but once I started to (mildly) berate him a bit, he seems to regain some sense and started to act. Some people to respond better to scolding than gentle pushing, and Chuck seems to be one of those guys unfortunately. Chuck literally dragged this out until the 11th hour. Even though my appointment was relatively early in tax season, I had to go to his office the day of the deadline to ensure he filed it. And I had to take the initiative to show up--he certainly didn't seem that concerned about it (after all, I make peanuts--why would the IRS care about me?). Look I get it. People make mistakes. People are busy. People don't have all the answers. But what makes it worse in Chuck's case is that he was never apologetic about it for one second. There was never a "sorry you had to chase me down for the last 6+ weeks" or a "I swear, the service here is much better than this". I just felt like I was bothering him the whole time. I really wanted to like Chuck and there were many times I would look at him and see the "good guy" in him. I don't think his accounting skills are inadequate or that he was out to get me. But unfortunately for him, you can't put someone through what he put me through and be considered "good at your job". One star.

I was met on the phone with rushed condescending questions one after another by the man claiming to "having 20 people on hold" and "Im already taking up too much of his time at 7minutes, because he only ever spends 5 min on any phone call" after he asked about my situation which I had flat out explained was a bit complicated due to my Mother being very ill & I really needed guidance figuring out taxes with my family inheritance. He interrupted me on a very short call by cutting me off and demanding fast answers which I started the conversation by saying it was complicated. I was confused. His demeanor was unbelievable, and hard to believe he has any experience and especially with 5 star reviews. I would have been happy to pay him for his precious time yet he repeatedly told me verbatim "I only give 5 min on the phone". I told him thank you for your help and closed the call. I need advice on gift tax Im receiving from my 80yr old dying mother after selling a family home. Im not asking for anything free. I told him Id be happy to pay, even. He could have set up an appointment or said if its too complicated to call a different accountant. He did not. I hate writing bad reviews. I rarely do. I did call back to tell him I was going to do so, and was in tears because My baby died and am living in poverty right now waiting on a large sum of money in a 300sqft apartment due to having to sell my home(which I told him)& REALLY need help with the taxes & what to do. Im shaking writing this review. Im a nice person who is struggling to go day to day. Perhaps he is only getting reviews for helping others with their tax returns. That is fine, but he could have just taken a few minutes to tell me he was ill-equipt and maybe even steer me in the correct direction. If you need a person that is caring and can give you more than 5 minutes on a call, This is not your person. You can't treat people in a way that makes them literally break down when you are a professional and be apathetic about the loss of a baby and needing to get the money & tax info and it taking more than 5 min. Just remember you never know what people are going through & you as a professional need to listen & take the time to set up an appointment or refer them to someone more competent. Im trying so hard and this 7 minute call was nothing but a slap in my face. I could and would never treat another human this way. Sometimes things are more difficult than you can handle & that is perfectly fine, but 7min is not "far too long" and lying about having "20 people on hold" to someone in a vulnerable place, it shouldn't be difficult to just be human. Can't we treat each other with kindness and compassion? Here the answer is clearly, NO

They're amazing…read more When I first met Al, my tax situation was a total mess: he helped me get everything in order and back on track. He was patient and reassuring and I never felt judged for how disorganized I was. He totally saved me, and since then, whenever thorny tax issues have come up, Al and his team have been there for me. When people ask me if I know a good accountant, I tell them I know the best accountant in Boston, and to drop everything and call Al. Multiple times, those people have come back to me and said, "I can't thank you enough for telling me about Al Amir. He's completely saved me." So, let me say the same to you... If you're looking for an accountant, drop everything and call Al. You won't regret it, I promise. And years later, when people ask if you know a good accountant, you'll be able to "save the day" for them too by telling them to get in touch with Al & his team.

Last weekend was out first time going to Bill or any other accountant to do our taxes in a decade…read moreor more, as we've been using Turbo Tax for years. However, 2012 was a crazy year for us as we re-located from NJ back home to MA, changed jobs, rolled over a 401K and had multiple stock sales. So like every recent year, we bought TT again this year and were basically satisfied with the answers, although we owed $4100 to the IRS and $681 to MA we were getting $3990 back from NJ. That seemed reasonable given the income from last year. Still we wanted to double check our work on TT and we also wanted to establish a relationship with an accountant who could also provide advice going forward as to how to best position ourselves for next years taxes. My wife and I are almost 50 so we also were also looking for someone to validate the positions we had taken financially to prepare for retirement. We found Bill on Yelp and even though we live in Boston where there were other five star rated accountants, we liked the fact that he was praised for both his tax services and his financial advice. Also, he was noted as having a friendly and easy going personality (Which some of the other five star accountants defiantly did not have according to their reviews). We didn't want to start off a potential long term relationship with any one who was a dick, no matter how brilliant. Bill has a nice location in an office park in Quincy off Willard Street. We arrived on time and so did he. We liked Bill immediately as he was engaging and friendly and not stuffy at all. He even had Red Sox World Series memorabilia on his walls which immediately signaled to me that he was A NORMAL PERSON. Anyways, Bill found that we had made a mistake on TT by erroneously listing our stock sales. As far as TT was concerned, no red flags popped up because the error was inputted incorrectly by us. TT didn't know and we didn't know either, but Bill knew. The error would have been costly. Instead of the figures above, it turned out that we actually only owed the IRS $798! Our NJ refund was increased by over $200 and our debt to MA turned into a refund of almost $200. All tolled, Bill saved us almost $4500. After his fee of $275, we still saved well over $4000. We obviously enjoyed our first meeting and will schedule another more comprehensive meeting to evaluate our goals and current positions after the tax season ends and Bill is less busy. Bottom line here is that Turbo Tax is a great product, but nothing beats discussing your tax obligations with a human being. We would HIGHLY recommend Bill Ryan to anyone looking for an exceptionally competent accountant/financial planner in the Metro South or even in the Boston metropolitan area. THANKS BILL!

I was rushed into signing the approval documentation without even being told the amount I would be paying to the IRS or their business and was left taking a hit of 6k unexpectedly less then 24 hours later without any option for a payment plan, disclosure on the amount etc- they told me there was nothing they could do to stop the charge and apologized profusely. They accepted blame for the situation and admitted that the service I got was unacceptable and when I asked for my money back- as ANYONE WOULD when being given awful service, I was ghosted for two weeks before being told "I got the service I paid for" which was no communication, poor management, them admitting wrong in the situation and stress. I felt like I had to follow up with them to do their job and I paid them $300 to just be put in a stressful situation. Absolutely do not recommend, super poor management and awful taste left from the experience. Cannot warn anyone enough how AWFUL Rick and his employees were with handling the whole experience. I was even told they would "rectify it however they could" but when I said the proper solution would to be to refund me for the amount of time and stress their business caused I was then responded with "you got your service no matter how bad it was, I wont go back and forth on that..." so how were they going to rectify it then? A flower basket? Literally lost my entire savings in one day because of them. Rick said in emails he wanted to better work on the business and cared about client satisfaction, but has left me in such a financial hardship and depression with no way to solve the problem they caused. During this entire process I NEVER received a phone call except the last day to make sure they got paid. Literally go use turbotax.
