To top it off, their final "advice" to me was, "You should have sold the car years ago." This was beyond insulting after they took my money and left me with a useless vehicle. Now, I'm forced to rely on Uber just to get to work, costing me around $400 a week, completely ruining any quality of life I had. Not only did George and his son leave me without a functioning car, but they've also caused a major financial burden. This place is a total scam. Less than a mile from Tompkins Garage, I gave them a call and asked if they could see me. They said they close at 3p, so get over as soon as I could. I arrived at 2:30p. Tompkins is quaint. It looks like a garage out of the 1950's. As soon as I rolled up, I was told where to park. They were true to their word when they said they would see me in 15 min. They didn't have run flats, which is not uncommon. But, they also didn't have a 16 in that would fit the mini. In between their diagnostics everyone just seemed to be having a good time. The place has the hum of people who genuinely like what they do. I learned how the owner broke his foot. That the new run flat machine makes it a breeze to put on the tires. The guy fixing my tire was genuinely amused by the state of my shredded tire. At this point with no tire, after hours, I thought I would have to call AAA. Instead the owner called a local place (that was also closed), asked if he would stay open long in enough to sell him a tire, drove to the store and back and had his son in law install the tire in a matter in minutes. All the while I sat in the waiting room watching Hancock on TV. Total cost $150. Tompkins garage and gas is the best place for a flat or any mechanical needs. They are kind, funny, efficient. They obviously enjoy what they do. And, apparently, it is a family business. I discovered this only because I was so happy with the service I thought to ask the mechanic if he was single. He said, "No, my wife is the owner's daughter. His boss, with a broad smile said, "What are you looking to get rid of your husband?" I said, "No, I have a gorgeous baby sister and she is single, so I had to ask." Good, quality guys who can fix things?! I had to ask.
