At any rate, I've seen some sketchy, skeevy parks in the Denver Metro area, and I'm happy to report that-- despite it's poor choice in monikers-- O'Kane park is NOT one of them. The play structure? IS AWESOME. It's remarkably graffiti-free (no small feat on the West Si-yeeeed) and big enough so that even when it's crawling with ankle-biters on a sunny Saturday afternoon, the kids have room to roam. There are slides for every age and bravery-level, plus lots of tunnels, rings, bridges, and poles. If you happen to fall off any of these things, you'll land in some soft, clean wood chips. Nice! Aside from the playground, there are covered picnic/BBQ areas (available to reserve, if need be), plus ACRES of green field space, walking trails, tennis and basketball courts, and a little pond. Dogs do need to be on leash here, and most people respect that. Of note: the place can be crawling with Bitchy Belmar Mommies. Last time I was there, my 19-month-old had the AUDACITY to touch another kid's sippy cup (the horror!). BBM came swooping in, antibacterial wipe in hand, nose all out of joint and practically busting a vein in her forehead. "Sorry," I said, casually (because it was REALLY no big deal), "he's in that 'grab everything' stage." I didn't mention that when you bring a brightly-colored wagon full of toys and sippy cups to a public playground and park it right next to the slides, you really can't expect other kids NOT to take an interest in it. "Well!" BBM huffed at me," MY kids are preemies, and they just recently got over being sick, so..." In that "..." were implied the words: "keep your filthy kid's germy hands off my stuff." Um, hello? A) You're at a public playground, and that big ol' jungle gym your darlings are climbing upon has WAY more germs on it than my kid's hands ever will. And B) your kids are like, FOUR FREAKIN' YEARS OLD. If you're still playing the preemie card, you have some serious issues, lady. Anyhow, Bitchy Belmar Mommies notwithstanding, O'Kane Park is a pretty cool place. Check it out!

This was a nice mile or so long loop around a small lake. There were plenty of people, but not too many, and their dogs walking. We saw several different species of birds and even 2 coyotes doing a little morning hunting in the tall grass. They didn't bother us and we didn't bother them! We will come back here. Nice paved areas and smaller trails off of the main trail to follow. Free parking in a few spots. Update: I came here by myself yesterday for a run. Racking up mileage is easy here because there are so many sub-trails around the lake itself. Also very easy to get some easy hill action built in...just enough to get your heart rate up!

Green Mountain has often been a staple hiking spot for the Lakewood/Golden community. It offers…read moremultiple trails that are rated easy to moderate with an elevation gain of just over 1,000 ft. Just a word to the wise, the very beginning can be steep for some and will leave you out of breath, so be sure to pace yourself depending on your skill level. Given the location of this hiking spot, there are wonderful views of the Denver metro area and the sunrises are spectacular, if you can get out early enough. If you don't have any set plans for 4th of July, I highly recommend grabbing some lawn/soccer chairs and watching the fireworks displays across the city. I always try and make it up to watch the Coors Field fireworks. This is a very popular mountain biking destination as well and there are specific trails intended solely for mountain bikes. They are well marked and easy to avoid if you're hiking. If you're mountain biking, get ready for unimpeded trails with smooth turns and fun jumps. In wet seasons, it's super fun to get a little muddy.

Mostly rocky and some very narrow paths. I liked taking a different route on the way back. So it can be an in/out or it can be a loop. I went up the main trail and came down the right/east side. I saw a lot of different things taking that other way like birds, a bunny, burrows. But, there were a couple areas where the bushes are beginning to take over the path. Overall it was a nice, solid hike.
