We went on a terribly windy day, but the kids still had a ton of fun. They all enjoyed the playsets, especially the ones you can spin on and the maze (of sorts). There are great views of Denver and the surrounding area as well. On one side was a huge bike park with ramps and jumps and on the other side was a snowboarding hill.

A beautiful park with a great view of Denver! Would be a great place to do a photoshoot or a music video. Was there at sunset and played on the swings and some of the rest playground while waiting for a dinner reservation nearby.

Uh, a terrain park 10 minutes from my house? Yes please! A relaxed environment where I can safely fall on my arse a dozen times before finally executing a proper backside boardslide? Indeed. The rail yard has been around more or less since 2007'ish and is created by Winter Park. They blow a whole bunch of man-made snow once a year, around mid-january, and then when that melts, it's over. It's currently the beginning of February and there's still plenty of cover. Helmets are suggested but not required. Park hours are morning to 11pm (their site says 9pm but the park sign says 11pm) - the bright lights are on until close which makes this perfect for after-work fun times. IT'S FREE. There are occasionally some Ruby Hill volunteers or staff there helping maintain the roll-ins and landings. They also have a tool box with them should your bindings need some adjusting. They do make mild modifications to the features from season to season. For the most part, it's a beginners level park (that doesn't mean you won't see some skilled riders here buttering, jibbing, and making you envious/swoon). The features are low to the ground and the hill isn't very steep. Almost everything is a box, ranging from about 2.5 feet wide to 1 foot wide. This season there is a medium pipe/cylinder that leads onto a rail. There's also a small c-rail/box thing, and sometimes people build tiny little kickers at the bottom of the hill for a third thing to hit. Since the hill is mild, hiking up it is no big deal. Doesn't tire you out near as much as I thought it would. There are snowboarders, skiers, snowskaters, tubers, and sledders here. Everyone shares space well. Unfortunately the percentage of attendees is still about 98 percent dudes (I have been the only woman riding here on more than one occasion). So if you're a femme and reading this, go! It's really mellow. And a sh*t ton of fun.

Driving from KC was tough on my kiddo so we went searching for somewhere to stretch his legs for a bit yesterday and Ruby Hill was an amazing find. Multiple play areas all including different types of stimuli for learning children! The maze was by far our favorite. From the picnic and play area you can look around to see all of the Denver metro, mountains, and places within the park like a bmx park and ball fields! I have to give 3 stars because there was SO much large trash littered around the play area midday. Definitely needs better upkeep.

Construction is finally finished. The park has a new MASSIVE picnic pavillion that optimizes the 360 degree view of Denver and the front range. There is more parking and a new walking path to the brand new playground. The playground is state of the art with separate areas for every age group and some very unique features that you have to see. And there is still an outdoor pool for summer fun. Summer use of the park should increase with all the improvements but still a continuous trail through and around the park is lacking and there is little or no flat space for sport activities. The huge area and lack of people has made it a favorite of people who walk their dogs off leash. It is illegal but rarely infringes on other's enjoyment of the park. The park is most well known for its winter activities. The hill has been optimal for sledding anytime there is snow on the ground. And for the last few years Winter Park has made snow in January and installed a rail yard for snowboarding and skiing. Info at http://www.denvergov.org/recreation/RubyHillRailYard/tabid/432806/Default.aspx . Useful to note that there are now bathrooms available as well.

Awesome views in every direction. That and it's proximity to several bike paths and neighborhoods makes this a very functional park.

Beginning a city here proved to be a poor choice as the waterways were prone to periodic flooding. The City shifted to the northeast and this area was ignored and filled up with heavy industrial users. A huge flood in 1965 destroyed much of that infrastructure and provided an opportunity for redevelopment. The Greenway Foundation was a prime mover in the 1970s to create a park highlighting this area. A major update in the 1990s focused on floodplain management and further enhanced the park as a hub for the regional trail system. Today this is a highlight of Lower Downtown. Shoemaker Plaza begins at the REI building and extends down to the north edge of the South Platte River. The main park area begins at the south edge of the River and covers both sides of Cherry Creek. The trail system runs through this and continues north, south, and east. This is a beautiful space and exists in its own world, apart from the bustle of Lower Downtown. It is well worth a visit.

The park is closed off for safety reasons but we take a picnic and camp out on the lawn at the neighboring Staybridge Suites to watch the action up close. It's a super fun way to kick off your Fourth of July festivities (for whatever reason, Glendale's fireworks always happen a day or two before July 4th). Earlier this week it was announced that the highly anticipated Glendale Riverwalk Project will be put on hold http://www.bizjournals.com/denver/blog/real_deals/2015/04/175-million-development-planned-for-glendale.html?surround=etf&ana=e_article. Instead, a new retail and entertainment district called Glendale 180 will be developed on a 22 acre parcel between Colorado Boulevard and Cherry Street, and Virginia Avenue and Cherry Creek. The city plans to break ground in the Fall of 2015 and officials hope to open for business in 2017. And this will mean that Creekside Park is going away. I'm torn. It's truly a shame to lose a nice, big park. But Glendale and its neighbors will be gaining job opportunities and new fun recreational activities. As it stands now, the design is thoughtfully planned with lots of open space, year-round landscaping, and meandering pathways that will create an inviting community gathering place. No office or residential space will be included in the new development, just shops, restaurants, and a cinema. And lots of parking. And relaxed open container laws! Apparently, Glendale used to be quite the hot spot back in the day so it's planning to get back to its partytime roots. Glendale 180 - see what they did there? The final fireworks display in Creekside Park is scheduled for Thursday, July 2, 2015. I, for one, will be there to help send Creekside Park out with a bang. Yelp Review #400

I forgot about the joy of watching fireworks, it was like I was five years old all over again with a permanent grin plastered on my face. I hope Glendale decides to keep the Annual firework show going even after the new Glendale development goes up. I was impressed and awed by the whole evening. Thank you Vicki P. for showing me some of the best fireworks in Denver. Pro Tips for the optimal Firework experience: *Bring chairs (cup holders are a plus) *Bring a jacket or a blanket (it gets chilly in the evening) *Food + Libation = Fun times *Parking is a hot mess, I recommend parking at least a half mile away and walking so you don't get stuck in traffic when leaving with all the closed/blocked streets surrounding the area

Atmosphere and Scenery The atmosphere at City Park is very…read moreromantic and calm. It is a nice place to walk around with family and friends. Or to just play at the park, and a lot of people go there for running, biking, or playing soccer. One of the best things about this park is that it did not smell bad. I noticed because I know some parks have a stinky smell, but this one did not. Even though we went during the summer, it wasn't super hot and there were not a bunch of bugs for that time of year. Crowd The crowd depends on when you go and if there is an event happening. It was not crowded at all on the day we went because we went during the week. However, I know during certain times of the year they have jazz in the park and it gets super packed. Most of the time, everybody pretty much minds their own business or they are friendly, but if you go for an event, you should plan ahead accordingly. Price: This location is completely free to go to since there is no park entrance fee or anything. Even the jazz in the park events are free and really neat, which makes it a great spot if you are looking for a nice place that is laid-back and free to enjoy. Parking and Transportation: There are plenty of places to park during a normal day, but when we went to jazz in the park during the summer, it did take some time to find a spot. You should make sure to show up early so that you can find parking. If you live a little bit away, you might want to take an Uber, or you can just walk or ride your bike if you live close enough. Overall Experience: My husband and I went right before sundown to do a picnic and painting date that also served as a photo shoot. We had someone set this up for us and we paid for it, so it was very convenient because we just showed up and followed their instructions. It was a great time to go because it wasn't very busy and the lighting was perfect. I think it is a good spot to have a photo shoot or a cute picnic date because it has such a romantic feel to it. We had a really fun time and I highly recommend this place.

Very open, clean, and spacious park. I love the dead and barren trees in November, we don't get that in California and paired with the cold, it feels weirdly nostalgic of something I've never had and warming on the inside (yes, I'm insane). I also passed by a lot of joggers and dog walkers in the mid morning. Very safe. I passed by 2 small lakes with some water fowl nearby, standard mallard ducks and Canadian geese. Very calming. Saw a couple squirrels too. Not a bad medium sized city park.
