Great free park. If you're only in Denver for a short time and want to see mountains and the plains, this is the spot. Not far off I-70. Some light trails if you want some exercise at 7400 feet. Always a little Cooler up here. I wish they never closed the snack bar/ gift shop. There are bathrooms and a pretty good amount of parking. The buffalo bill museum still exists in its "old form." See it soon before the city/county of Denver (the owner of all this land, despite it being well outside Denver city limits) changes it. read more

This is a wonderful park with spectacular view as far as the eye can see! You just drive up, grab a parking spot, and walk around. Take a look at the snow capped mountains of Breckinridge, look down at the town of Golden and over to the city of Denver. You can really see so much from up here! There are a few hiking trails you can walk on but we decided to stay at the lookout areas. The park ranger gave us a map of where to find Bison so we took the short drive and saw some Bison! You gotta stop by if you're in the area. read more

It's a short drive from the City of Denver (20-40 minutes depending on where in the city, and what time of day). This Floridian did not find the roads leading up here to be scary (if this sort of thing concerns you). Breathtaking views on all sides, and the air really does seem cleaner up here. We will 100% return if ever in the area. read more

A golden Adventure We drove the Lariat loop National scenic byway (built in 1913) -which offered so much beauty. The road starts Golden and climbs up the steep east side of Lookout Mountain-or Mount Zion. What a beautiful drive! The journey upward is part of the adventure of exploring Lookout Mountain: the beautiful trees showcasing fall leaves, horse ranches, colorful mountains, and a plethora of hiking trails. You can't miss the American culture must visit---The Buffalo Bill Museum and grave attraction at the top of Lookout Mountain. It is home to Buffalo Bill Cody's gravesite. You can also visit the local museum which highlights artifacts that showcase the life and times of Buffalo Bill before and at the turn of the 20th century and the Old West. Really fascinating. Hiked from Golden (via Chimney Gulch trail to Windy Saddle and up to top ) all the way up to Lookout Mountain Nature center.....9.5 mile 1800+ climb. The new snow made this a real bear to hike ( micro spikes really helped. Towards the top you have a fork with options to Lookout Mountain or Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave. Both Great options! Sure you can jog, bike, drive to the top as well. Gorgeous views both West and East. Definitely visit the nature center. read more

I mean, if you're not giving this place anything less 5 stars you're crazy. This is such a gorgeous spot, even just the drive up to it was beautiful. It's a our second day in CO and this was on our list. Pretty easy to get to and plenty of parking. One side of this park has a view of flatland and the other is beautiful mountains. The little bit of snow made it that much prettier too. It's just such a perfect spot to come and take some pictures. There's also a little family owned gift shop! I loved it, I got some fudge which was TO DIE FOR! Really delicious. I also got a delicious hot vegetable soup. When I asked the woman behind the counter about it she said it's a 100 year old recipe within their family. It was definitely delicious. Then keep walking down and there's a Buffalo Bill museum and more sights. The view really is breathtaking, I highly recommend this spot for a little stop on your road trip. read more

This is the site that the Buffalo Billy Cody Grave and Museum sit. It is a 7,377-foot peak and gives some awesomely gorgeous views of the city of Golden, downtown Denver and the foothills. It is relatively clean and they have those coin operated binoculars positioned around the park, so that you see up close and personal. It is a short drive from down town, about 25 minutes and you have to travel some windy roads to get there. They do have a huge free parking lot. I highly recommend visiting here. Visiting here gives you a two-for-one opportunity, where you can visit the Park and the Buffalo Bill Museum/grave. It is free and relatively easy to get to and is near the Red Rock Amphitheater and a short trip from downtown Denver. read more

Came here at the end of October with my fiance. Unfortunately, it was a foggy day and we did not get the scenic view that we antipicated but we took the small hike that took about 20 minutes from the top parking lot near the museunlm. It was light snowing which made the surrounding trees beautiful and the experience made it worth it for us. The trail is rocky and rooty so wear the right shoes because it could get slippery. We met some nice people along the way. Would love to come back on a clear sky day to catch good views. read more

My favorite place to just sit in the stillness and beauty. Located In Golden,CO. Towering above Denver (can be seen by the picnic area) it is a fantastic place to view and escape. Directly across the street is a nature preserve with a venue to host weddings and other engagements. Beautifully designed and decorated. There is also an outdoor chapel. Other places to visit nearby: Wild Bills Store and grave site. COORS Brewing Company, tours available. The City of Golden & River walk. The over walk also offers tubing to float and enjoy the water. School of Mines. Don't miss this location though. Driving in from I-70 the accent is unremarkable. Driving up from 19th street is the way to go if you love a view! Hairpin turn with many pull off on the way up. read more

If you want a good view of Golden with no effort, drive to the top of Lookout Mountain! We drove up here after doing a hike at Mt. Galbraith. Unfortunately, it was so hazy from the wild fires that there wasn't really much of a view. If you're looking for a less steep and less windy way to get to the top, take the back way up from I-70. That's what we did since we thought it would be easier in an RV. You can also go from the other end of the road right off of highway 6 in Golden. I wouldn't say this is a must do in the area since I always prefer a hike, but it's something good to do if you don't have time or don't want to hike. read more

We visited Lookout Mountain Park, as it was recommended by our Airbnb host who said that it was an easy hike with top-notch views. For the most part, he was right. It was an easy hike around the entire park, even though you can drive up to the highest viewpoint. And the views of the mountains aren't bad either. Located about half an hour outside of Denver proper, we rented a car and drove to this Park. It was easy to get to, with highway signs, leading you to the right place. The first entrance in the park is on the lower level of the park, which has picnic tables, a large picnic shelter and bathrooms. But to get to the main viewpoint you can follow the trail, which was an easy walk. Once you're at the main viewpoint you can see many of the towns and further away is the Denver skyline. There are viewing towers/coin-operated binoculars that you can pay for a closer view. The mountains are really what to come here for, especially since it's so hard to see the mountains from Denver. In this high viewpoint area is also Buffalo Bill's Museum for an admission fee, a gift store and a parking lot. It's easy and accessible and would recommend visiting Lookout Mountain Park if you want to see more of the scenic views of the outdoors and be away from the city. read more

I gave this place three stars. Only because it's misleading. It doesn't have the best views for where you walk to. Not until I was headed down the mountain in a vehicle, I noticed they had a much better location to capture amazing views, but they do not provide this to you here. You have to hunt for it. Amazing Experience !!! What a great idea to take a drive up the mountain to Lookout Mountain Park. During a trip to Golden, Colorado earlier this year I had a rare afternoon off and decided to check it out. Besides the amazing views, you'll find Buffalo Bills' Grave and Museum, the Pashaka Gift Shop, trails and yes the views. The 'Lookout' itself has a large area where you can see Denver and Golden and on a clear day, you can see miles and miles out to the surrounding areas and mountains. Be careful driving up the mountain and as I saw a couple of wrecks and abandoned cars along the way. The morning was overcast so many parts of the mountain round were still covered in ice, from the sides of the mountain that didn't get any sun in the morning. It was winter and the weather can change at any time like any other snow-covered mountain. Take your time driving the road. There is a couple of pull-offs on the road up to Lookout Mountain if you have to stop. As you get closer to the parking area, there are signs to clearly identify where you are and where to park. The same parking lot for the 'Lookout' is the same parking lot for Buffalo Bill's Grave, the Museum, the gift shop and the Lookout area. In the winter most of the trails are covered in snow and not accessible, I did see a few people coming from the trails. You will also see several TV and radio towers nearby. Luckily it was a clear day, and sunny when I arrived. I checked out all the sites and walked the perimeter of the lookout and spent a good amount of time there looking at the surrounding area. It is serene and picturesque so bring a good camera, if you have one. With everything to do up there even on a wintery day, you could spend a few hours up there. The Lookout Mountain is a great way to spend an afternoon. If you're ever in Golden put this on your list of things to do, you will not be disappointed. read more

Was looking for Buffalo Bill's grace and find this hidden gem. The roadway opens to a park. We parked in a space which were all located right next to the road after you pull in a tiny bit. I had to use the restroom after driving for so long. I was happy to see some available. Well, this was a first for me. I walk in, turn the corner, wha la toilet. It was kinda dark even with no door. After realizing it was just a giant hole in the ground with a seat on top basically as decor. Toilet paper was there for your pleasure. Okay now the good stuff, the actual park. Tables and grills were there for you to use. The view into the valley below was breathtaking. There were trails for hiking. It was a nice relaxing experience just taking in the views that surrounded us. read more

We went on a sunset hike on a Friday evening and the trail was super crowded but gorgeous! Be on the lookout for plenty of mountain bikers. The trail has plenty of switchbacks and great for any skill level of a hiker. Parking lot has restrooms as well. Bring a face mask! read more

This is a great trail for beginners. I was at Red rocks and wanted to find a hike that was nearby so I did a search in Yelp and this park popped up so I hopped in my car and went to check it out. The drive here was through various neighborhoods and your phone will completely drop its service so make sure you have a GPS in your car and are not relying on your phones internet connection. There was a parking lot at this trails's entrance and unfortunately there were no spots available, the lot was full and there were only spots for 10 vehicles or so, very very small. Even the illegal parking spots were taken. I waited 5 minutes or so and luckily someone was pulling out. I was doing this trail by myself, it was important for me to pick an area where I felt safe. There were several moments on this trail where I had wished there was someone else with me, but I kept going. I only passed 3 or 4 people the entire time I was walking the trail and at one point ran into some sketchy fellows sitting up on a fence and it definitely spooked me. It looked like were up to no good. I ended up turning back around when I saw them because I didn't want them to know I was heading into the trail by myself. Once I saw other people I turned back around and completed the hike. Just be aware of your surroundings if you're hiking alone, as usual. So like I said, definitely a trail for beginners, the walk down was very easy, just a nice walk in nature with mountain views once you get toward the end of the hike. I am still not sure whether I made it to the correct end because I was told there's a beautiful lookout and I never got to that point. I reached a parking lot so I decided to turn back around. The walk back is where I broke a sweat, more uphill, more challenging. Be careful where you walk, I fell a few times and ended up cracking my cell phone screen, ugh. That's what you get for walking with it in your hand while trying to take photographs. It was SO quiet while I was hiking, so serene but also too quiet at times. You are seriously one with nature out here. On the walk back I got to a point where I didn't know whether to go right or left, the signs weren't indicating which way was back to the lot, luckily I remembered a specific rock and knew where to go, so just be aware because there is a trail here that indicates it's very challenging and if you head down that way it's over 10 miles and people often get hurt taking the trail, you'll see what I mean with the signs so just stay focused and smart. I think this took me an hour to do, it was worth it, some good exercise, broke a sweat and got some nice photos. I think maybe there was more to the hike that I just didn't get to see. read more

This is a very nice spot if you're looking for great views without any hiking required. It's possible to drive right to the top and take just a few steps to see out over Denver and the valley. On a clear day the views are amazing. For those who like hiking and a little adventure (me), there are places to go "off-road" and explore a little bit. They have some nice rocks for bouldering just off of the picnic area below the lookout mountain parking lot. Keep your eyes open for little paths that run away from the main areas. If you're looking for some intense hiking, or a long trek, this won't be your cup of tea. It's great for the views though. I don't know of any other place that'll give you such a clear view over the city. Also, it's family friendly and handicap accessible. read more

This place is nice because you can drive all the way to the top and take in the views OR you can park a ways down and hike up to the top and take in the view that you worked hard for. At the top, there's a museum and a nature center. At the tip top is Buffalo Bill's grave - pretty neat to see. There are plenty of different trails to take up and down, so take your pick. We didn't see any police as mentioned in the other reviews. But, do be careful driving because there are a lot of cyclists driving on the roads. read more

Lookout Mountain Park is a nice and easy drive right outside the city of Denver. Once you get to the top, there's wonderful views overlooking the city of Denver. Outside of graffiti spray painted on the rocks, which is so disappointing because it's so picturesque from the top, it's a great way to get outside the city and soak up how pretty Colorado really is. Just spending an hour looking out on downtown Denver was a great way to spend a portion of my day. The air is clean and crisp from the top and I went on an absolutely picture clear day. If you're in Denver, definitely take a portion of your day to visit Lookout Mountain Park. From what I remember, it's roughly a 20-30 mile drive to experience great views. I even saw deer lying in the grass which was a pleasant surprise. read more

Beautiful Mountain View's. This is an easy drive and there is parking right up near the lookout point. You can see all the way down to the neighboring town so it's a crazy contrast of the valleys and peaks of Colorado. There is a visitor center/museum as well, however I was just stopping to see the views. On the way to the look out point you will pass these gorgeous homes, and I'll bet dollars to donuts you'll see your dream home here. The views here and throughout CO just make you stop and appreciate nature. I just kept saying "Damn" about a million times because it's so freaking gorgeous.
