I went there to get my hair highlighted. There were only a couple instructors there that didn't do anything. No direction, they didn't check on students. Update (12-11-19) I tried to give this location another chance but they have cancelled my hair color appointment for a third time again and they tend to call within 30 minutes or less to let me know of that they are not doing any hair coloring today because of their holidays. This time it was an hour before my appointment. Pretty upsetting that they keep doing that I work as a nurse and I have to plan my schedule to make it possible to get my me time which I'm this case was going to be my hair coloring. I don't understand why this location keeps treating me this way. I used to go to El Cajon location and they were always wonderful but I moved and this location is the one that is the closest. I do feel discriminated I called (11-15-19) to book an appointment for tomorrow (11-16-19) and I was told by Paola that she was not allow to book 2 appointments in advance and she kept me in hold before telling me these. And to check tomorrow at 0930am to get a same day appointment. Has us working on clients feet with fungus. Did get all supplies with our kits. Spend money to work in a non ventilated space with unopposed floors! Bathrooms don't work and they change rules every day not even abiding by the contract we sign. As an active duty military retired member of 10 years never I've I ever felt this way. She welcomed me into the back area and asked me about any skin concerns, as well as, went through each treatment listed and explained what they targeted. I ended up selecting their new pumpkin facial and it smelt like pumpkin pie! Jessica had a shadow that day, and asked me if I would be comfortable with it. The whole facial session was so relaxing I fell asleep during her 2nd cleansing. Jessica and her shadow made me feel so comfortable the whole time, and reassured me when I was nervous (some of the treatment tingled my face). I have long hair and a teensy bit of hair-cut phobia so I don't get trims as often as I should. But my crispy ends really needed to go so I made an appointment with Bellus at the suggestion of a friend. From check-in all the way to my check-out process, everything went smoothly. At the front desk, you sign a waiver acknowledging that you're having services done by students in training. I was called back immediately by Vivian, who sat me down to discuss what I wanted done with my hair. She jotted down some notes and had her instructor (she used a different term for him, I can't recall what right now) take a look. He gave the thumbs up and Vivian took me back to shampoo my hair. She was really gentle about it and even gave me a bit of head massage. Honestly, I wasn't even expecting a shampoo with the low cost of the hair cut, so I was rather floored! Back in the chair, she combed through the hair and added some thermal protectant and balms and proceeded to cut my hair. She was careful and thorough with good technique (graduating later this month) and I feel like I definitely got a good stylist-in-training! My end result was gorgeous long layers and silky smooth hair! Good job Vivian! Be patient, things do take a bit longer than at a regular salon because they run things by their instructors but the stylists are well-supervised and are obviously being well-trained. The salon is neat and modern; the restrooms are pretty. Plenty of parking out front. Nice work Bellus Academy! I'll be back! read more

My experience was nothing but positive. It was super easy for me to make an appointment and I had a groupon so basically all of my services were half off. I am definitely a fan of Bellus in Poway! I think it is a lot better than the Paul Mitchell school downtown because this Bellus location is clean and definitely very professional looking. There also is plenty of parking in the plaza! The staff here are super nice and the girl, Cherry, who did my hair was very sweet. First of all- you need to know that these are students. Period. Do not come here thinking that you are getting someone who has decades of experience cutting hair. I was a student (nursing student) once and I totally understand the anxiety and nerves when it comes to interacting with someone knowing you don't have experience. So, be kind to them! They are learning! I will be back for a massage and now, I am a fan of this place, so I will be getting my hair done here more often! If you're not picky and you're a laid back person, I recommend you give them a try! They may mess up but that's the risk you have to take when you go to a beauty school. I have nothing but great things to say about this place. To begin with, it has very flexible hours and the inside is very clean and modern looking. I went to get eyelash extensions and the student that helped me, Yesenia V., did an outstanding job. She explained everything that was going to happen and we discussed what I wanted my lashes to look like. She was incredibly thorough in her work and the customer service was incredible. After about 2.5 hours of lash work, an instructor came over to check that the work was good, and she had done a perfect job. I was in love with the results! You can not beat the price of this place. The only regret that I have is that I did not know the tips are cash only, so make sure to bring to cash to the appointment. I'm a Bellus academy student was looking forward to graduation. 6/30/24 was are graduation so unorganized , everyone yelling. Small space having are family in a tv room to see us. What really disappoint me was how much money we pay for this school and get a bad graduation that is small and the other students got a better one with space. As the stuff says " it was cheaper". Ok if it was cheaper where is are money really going to??? I also thought we were going to get a diploma with are names on it but no it was just a waste of time to get a piece of paper. I was so disappointed to the point right when they called my name I left home to go get my family from the tv room where they couldn't see me walk up. After yesterday I would not recommend anyone else to this school. At the very least after all the money I spent I would hope upper management would acknowledge my frustration with an apology for myself and all the people that experienced this awful unorganized event. read more
