I've seen other Fortis locations…read morelisted, but they have different addresses, so to be clear, this review is for the Fortis Institute located at 450 N Sam Houston Pkwy E, Ste 200, Houston, TX 77060. I attended this school for the Medical Assistant program to work toward becoming a CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant). At the beginning, my experience was okay and I didn't have many issues with my classes or instructors. However, as I got further into the program, my experience started to change. There were three staff members in particular that I had issues with. 1. Ms. Marin: I later found out that she would talk about me and my friends, and there were times when she would call us out in front of the entire class in a way that made us feel singled out or less than everyone else. I don't think students should be made to feel embarrassed in front of their classmates, especially by an instructor. 2. Ms. Nun: Whenever I had class with her, I felt like we barely learned anything. I specifically remember my friends and I asking if we could go through the skills list and practice different things to see what we still remembered and what we needed more help with. We were trying to make sure we were actually prepared, but our request was basically ignored and we barely practiced anything. 3. Ms. Moxcley: Toward the end of the program, we were told that we would receive assistance with finding employment. I remember reaching out to her multiple times about finding a job, but I would either receive no response or very little communication. Because I wasn't getting anywhere, I recently contacted Ms. Goss for help finding an MA position. I explained that I'm specifically interested in working as a Medical Assistant in an OB/GYN clinic. She told me she would call me. When she called, I happened to be busy and missed it, but I returned her call shortly afterward. She didn't answer, so I sent her a message letting her know I had called back and was available. This happened Tuesday. By Friday, I still had not received a response to any of the messages I sent afterward. I finally sent another message, and she responded saying she would call me "momentarily." I waited about two hours and still did not receive a call. That is what finally pushed me to leave this review. One of the things students are told is that Fortis will help them with employment after completing the program. In my experience, once you're finished with the school, getting that help has been extremely frustrating. Messages go unanswered, communication is inconsistent, and the employment assistance I was told I would receive has not been what I expected. I also don't understand the point of asking students what area they want to specialize in as an MA if the positions they are being directed toward aren't related to what they said they were interested in. I understand that nobody can guarantee you a specific job, but there is a difference between not being able to guarantee employment and simply not communicating with a former student who is actively asking for assistance. I completed my program and I'm genuinely trying to start my career and put my education to use. I'm not asking anyone to hand me a job. I'm asking for the career assistance and communication that we were told would be available to us. Unfortunately, my experience trying to receive that assistance has been extremely disappointing.

He also said that there was Kahluah in the Sex on the beach and when the class told him there wasn't he said "oh my book has a different recipe". I highly doubt his book had a different recipe, he made a mistake and didn't want to own up to it. That day was the day that we learned the drinks that needed to be shaken and he didn't teach anyone how to shake. People where shaking from left to right by their waist with the glasses horizontal, I taught my partner how to shake the proper way and I am a paying student, I shouldn't be teaching her. The dye used for coloring the fake alcohol leaves your hands colored for days and is not presentable for people who do have a job and need to work the next day. Also, there are labels halfway to almost being peeled off on some of the bottles which doesn't teach people what they look like. Also, I don't think it is very professional to be using acronyms such as "OJ's ASS" or "OJ's VERY TIGHT LITTLE ASS". This is embarrassing to your establishment and makes people not take the class seriously at all. Also, there is mold on every inch of that bar. It absolutely disgusting. It shows the new people that it is okay to have a bar this filthy. It was so gross and very hazardous. This school is such a waste of time And money. I don't want to return due to the bad teaching and the establishment. I was extremely disappointed in the school and would like a full refund since the place is a mess and it's dangerous to be standing in mold for 8 hours straight especially when I know that the Health Department would have a field day in your school. I spoke to them and asked for a refund and they told me no since I had completed days of training already. I had told them that if I found all the poor things out about their establishment on day 1, I would have but everyday was something new going wrong there and they still wouldn't refund me. Don't waste your time and money b

On this basis, I would give a 5 star review. But, the contact/communication has been very bad. Emails flow through someone named "Jessie" who is quite slow to respond, sets short arbitrary deadlines, and since Mike unexpectedly cancelled a lesson on Dec 16, has not responded to numerous emails, a phone message, and even an question that I posted here two days ago about anyone having any recent contact with Shiftabove2. We offered to reschedule or take a refund and have not heard anything back in a month. This side, I would rate a 1 star. After extensive research into programs accommodating adults with unique needs, I confidently chose Shift Above 2 Driving School. They stood out with positive reviews, innovative program approach, and the dedication of the instructor Mike, who seemed incredibly educated and experienced in working with people facing different types of challenges. When I initially started at Shift Above 2, my confidence level was basically zero due to frustrating and unsuccessful attempts at learning prior. After giving Mike background on my previous experiences and how i was now feeling about learning, he immediately established a comfortable learning environment by ensuring that the pace of the lessons were entirely dictated by my comfort level. In those first few sessions, I really appreciated that he was highly perceptive. Whenever I struggled with a maneuver or began to show signs of distress, he didn't push me. Instead, he would alter the current technique or introduce a different approach that was much better suited to my skill and confidence level. This adaptive teaching style was fundamental in preventing old feelings of frustration from resurfacing. Soon after, I found myself driving confidently in moderate traffic on main roads and performing K-turns and backing up with very little nervousness. My goal in the coming months is to prepare to pass my state road test with Mike's continued training.
