Slik barbershop is one of the best places I have ever been. Their service is amazing and jose is a wonderful man.

Not a safe place for most of the community. After receiving some very good haircuts there, I was shocked when I sat down for my most recent haircut and a right wing talk show was on at full volume. During the 45 minutes I was there, I heard nothing but anti-immigrant and transphobic rhetoric. I don't do my gender affirming self-care any place that's not safe for my trans friends and family as well. You shouldn't either. read more

They're simply doing excellent work at reasonable prices. Appointments are recommended, and they book do book out a week or so in advance. They will take walk-ins, but there's a chance of a long wait, and an even higher chance that you may not get to see your preferred stylist. Also, appointments couldn't be much easier, as they can be made online via their website. The facility is clean. They have a comfortable waiting area. They use a digital display board to show appointments, openings, scheduling, etc. Both of my kids got their cuts there, and 2 tough-to-please clients were both beyond satisfied. SLIK Barber Lounge is the new venture of master barber (and long time Chatham area favorite) Jose Matos. Having built a large and loyal following during his years at V's Barbershop at Chatham's Shunpike Mall, Jose elected to pursue his own gig - along with wife, business partner (and fellow barber) Kelly. SLIK is located in the shopping center adjacent to Trader Joe's in Florham Park. If you're planning on going before about mid-November, be prepared for the fact that SLIK is presently operating in temporary space, which will make you feel a little like you're getting a haircut in your neighbor's kitchen. Then again, can your neighbor cut hair like Jose? Didn't think so. A few weeks, a little remodeling, and a grand opening weekend from now (around early Jan 2020) and SLIK will be the finished article. But no matter the aesthetic; remember, it's the product that counts, and I've trusted Jose for years now to give me a great haircut, great advice, and great customer service. For convenience, there's an app that allows you to book a specific slot online, or put your name on the walk-in list to save time when you arrive. They don't follow COVID precautions and it makes things super uncomfortable. PS- I'm not first person to give them 1 star for this exact reason, look back a few months and you'll find another. Got a haircut from them last week and staff barely wore masks. When I asked them to put them on, I was challenged by guy cutting my hair as to why he should... And when they finally did, they don't wear it properly. Either around chin, or covering mouth, but not nose. Walk by anytime and you'll see they barely wear masks, don't temperature screen, and plenty of other COVID restrictions seemingly ignored. Post pandemic, you should totally check them out though. Actually a good haircut. But not worth it for now from a health perspective. read more

Finding a new barber sucks...there are so many of these trendy barber shops opening up and you never know if you're going to the butcher shop or the barber shop until it's too late. My hair is a pain in the ass...it's dark, thick, grows like a weed and I like it kept short. Trust me I've had plenty of bad cuts in my lifetime...from DAY 1 these folks had me dialed in. The barbers @ SLIK don't mess around...serious skills. Unlike these pop up fly-by-night shops that come and go this crew has planted their cornerstone @ their new shop in Florham Park and their investment speaks volumes to the confidence they have in their craft and their guaranteed longevity as a premier barbershop in the area. This place is always busy, however, they offer online booking (& payment if that's your thing) and they're very accommodating to young kids (& the moms that bring them!). The one negative review is like being the ONE person that didn't vote for Derek Jeter the first time he was eligible for Cooperstown! read more

Had a haircut with Curtis. He explained his thoughts on what would look good on me, and he gave great insight. I had him do whatever he thought would look good, and it turned out to be easily the best haircut and beard trim I've ever had. They've just recently moved to their new location, and the decor is already looking good. The service is great too: free coffee or water if there's a wait. Curtis has been my barber for as long as I can remember. He does the best work I have seen and provides a consistent hair cut. I was at the shop during the current pandemic, and all barbers and customers were compliant with mask wearing and customers waiting were spaced out. I cannot recommend this shop enough. read more

Went today for the first time and had my cut with Jose. Easy to find, big parking lot. The space is wide and friendly with a good vibe. They offer you a drink to relax, thoughtful design and very clean. Not your average barbershop/salon and not the cheesy places all over the area. I normally get my cuts by Japanese master barbers in nyc like kida and st marks since they are good with details and shaping the cut to match your head shape but Jose met every expectation. Im impressed and it's much cheaper than I was paying in the city. Definitely going back. Didn't think there were people this talented here. Highly recommended. read more

Best barbershop I've been to. Prices are very reasonable and they can handle everything. Long hair, short hair, fades, shaves, etc. You can book appointments all online and pay for everything online. They also accept walk-ins. They stay open late on some nights like Thursday and are open every day except Wednesdays. Lots of TVs in there to watch sports l. One other awesome perk is they let you either bring in your own alcohol or they will offer you beer or bourbon. The place itself feels and looks new and cozy. Coolest place ever. A barbershop is really only as good as its barbers. May sound obvious but some places aim for flare and show but the barbers don't really know what they're doing. I've known the owners of this place from their previous shop for a few years and I was excited to find out that they were going out on their own.
