Guess we should thank the algorithm gods at times for listening since my husband found this gem researching Instagram for our trip to Barcelona and was served up this recommendation.
Belliny was everything we hoped it would be as a brunch spot. The tropical inspired decor was tasteful and trendy, not kitschy and tacky. It was intimate but not hard to get a reservation.
The vibe and clientele was xennial casual, but no diner vibes here. The staff was generous and easy to communicate if you don't speak Spanish. Most of them knew a little English and some a lot of English. They were very friendly, and of course the star was the delicious food!
I chose the set brunch menu which for 18 euros included a hot beverage, a cold beverage, main course and dessert. A bargain!
Fresh squeezed orange juice and a nice espresso were the best start. The eggs Benedict had a hollandaise like nothing I've ever tasted before - in a good way! Light, yet thick and flavorful with local ham (burying anything we have in the states) and perfectly poached eggs. Potatoes didn't need anything else as they were seasoned and cooked perfectly.
A whipped Nutella sauce on thick and fluffy pancakes were the perfect finisher. Good thing we had about a ten block walk to our hotel as we needed it!
Our food took a little longer and the server was very apologetic and offered me another espresso on the house. It didn't detract from our experience at all - if anything it gave us more time to take in the vibe, the decor, enjoy conversation and more coffee.
Highly recommend Belliny! read more
