Dr. Sullivan and his team are top notch. Finding a good vet that is not perpetually trying to break your bank account is synonymous with finding a trustworthy auto mechanic. In November my 8 yr old shepherd went paralyzed out of the blue. The paralysis set in over the course of 4 days, getting progressively worse until she was completely lame in her hind end. Up to that point, I had never had the call for real veterinary care, aside from routine vaccinations. Out of ignorance, I took my pup to the local VCA in Issaquah where I was told she likely had a spinal issue and would require evaluation from a spinal specialist. They told me I was in luck, their specialized care facility in Lynnwood had a specialist on staff, and if I went there right away they would gladly get me in for an evaluation. This was on a Saturday, and was being billed out under the emergency cost structure. But what do you do when your best friend has suddenly gone paralyzed? So I went, waited 10 hours, did NOT see a specialist, and was sent home after a couple of x-rays with a medley of useless medications ($$$) and over a thousand dollar bill for services rendered..... no useful prognosis however. On Monday, my pup was incontinent and was looking like she was destined for the great beyond. In the midst of this, an old vet I knew from growing retruned a voicemessage I had left over the weekend, and after I explained the scenario, he accurately diagnosed my pup, said she needed an immediate MRI and most likely back surgery. He followed that by saying that it sounded like the VCA really mis-handled my case and that it was teetering on the precipice of malpractice, and at such an high price. Both financially and for the long term well being of my dog. Luckily my fiance knew Dr. Sullivan from growing up in Bellingham, and she facilitated the contact with Dr. Sullivan. By the time I spoke with Ed, I was already on the road, headed to Pullman to have the vets at WSU perform the MRI and likely the requisite surgery. WSU had quoted a price of $5K, which was just about $5K less than the VCA Lynwood quoted as the "starting price" for tame treatment. (Now I understand why the VCA can afford to put Direct TV in every exam room). Dr. Sullivan encouraged me to go to Pullman and insisted that it would be a good choice. After a brief, but productive conversation, I asked Dr. Sullivan if he was equipped to have the MRI done, and take care of the surgery personally, which he confirmed he was. I changed direction, headed North, left my pup with Ed, and when I returned to pick her up 5 days later she was up and walking around.... not real great at first, but up on all fours nonetheless. Now, 6 months after being completely paralyzed she is back to her former glory, and at a fraction of the cost the VCA was attempting to extort out of me. What strikes me as the most testimonial, is that my pup gets all fired up now when we go up to Dr. Sullivan's clinic. I can hardly slow her down as she charges inside to catch up with her friends that brought her from two legs back up on all fours. Top notch, trustworthy folks. If you don't believe me, just ask my dog, she wouldn't know how to lie..... or write a yelp review for that matter. read more

My dog was not well and required an immediate ultrasound. I tried a host of so call professionals to get the procedures done but everyone blew me off saying the best they could do was three days away. The staff and Vet pulled out all the stops and their best was to give my dog the procedure and testing he required immediately "just get him in here and we'll get him going". Totally professional, compassionate and helpfull...Thank you for your excellent efforts and for caring.... :) It's nice to see a Vet who cares for the animals! read more

I really liked the Veterinarians that work at this clinic. They are excellent, knowledgeable, and the best in Whatcom County as far as I'm concerned. If anyone wanted the best of care for their pet I would advise to have the doctors that work here see their pet. However, the reason why I have given them a low rating was not because of the vets (I give them the highest rating) it is because of their office staff. It is great they will work with you regarding making payments, but the woman who takes care of the books/payments is a wicked witch of the west. I was unable to make payments because I lost my job and couldn't help it, but I wasn't about to ignore my responsibilities and promised I would pay when I landed my job, but the bookkeeper was soooooo rude to me she made me feel so bad. Now granted I appreciate that they gave good quality care for my pet (the doctors that is), but money is money and compassion is compassion. I want to pay them back, as I am working now, but that woman made me so embarrassed to even show my face there anymore and she made me feel so bad that I don't even want to pay them back. I still feel really bad about the whole thing and I still want to see the Vets there, but they have to get rid of the lady that takes care of their books. She is the only one there that is really mean! I noticed that other reviews on yelp complained of this same woman who also serves as the receptionist and checks you in. Come on Dr. Sullivan, get rid of this woman/employee she is giving you a bad reputation and your otherwise loyal customer will not be returning because of her. You can't make money by continuing to employ this mean rude individual who sits in the front desk at your clinic and takes the payments. She is the older one that looks like she is in the age bracket of 60ish!!! She is just plain mean and rude!! read more

Had an appointment for 1 pm. When I got there I was told every exam room was full, and people waiting for their 12:15 appointment were still waiting. Front desk person could have called me and asked if I could come in later--but why bother! She actually claimed that she didn't know they were backed up until I came in! I was very apprehensive about switching my golden retriever, Parker's vet at the age of 12. We moved up north last August and over the year it just became too hard to get him down to see his vet for little lump checks, etc. during their office hours. I have known both Theresa and Ed for the last few years because I ride horses with two of their daughters. They are the most down to earth, amazingly nice people. The way they and their daughter's take care of their horses is a true reflection of their love of animals. I decided to ask Theresa if she would mind seeing Parker, as he had a warty growth that I was pretty sure would need to be removed. She couldn't have been nicer about it, so I called and made an appointment. I was so impressed when I arrived! Their clinic is beautiful inside and out but more importantly I genuinely trusted Parker was in good hands. He had the growth removed and a few other spots checked. As a pet owner you are in such a vulnerable position with vets as you trust them to take care of your "fur baby". I know that knowing them on a personal level is a bit different but I can truly speak to what wonderful people they are and that they love what they do! Our 18mth old Scottish Terrier had been sick for 2 months, threwing up, lathargic, and had lost 7lbs. We live in the White Rock, BC area and we had taken him to the vetrinary hospital numerous times for blood work, X-ray, etc and after spending $1,200 in tests they could give us no answers as to what was wrong. Finally another vet said he would do an ultrasound and they ended up finding a round rubber ball. They were going to charge us $4000 to operate and take it out. It was quite a dilema for us but while deciding what to do I asked a friend in Bellingham if he knew of a Vet he would recommend. He recommended Dr. Ed at Bellingham Veterinary and so we took him down there and he did the surgery to remove the ball, repaired his intestine, and took care of Jeter for a five days for a quarter of the cost it would have been in Canada. His communication with us was excellent, daily updates, etc, and once Jeter was ready to go home he asked us for updates daily to monitor how he was doing. We are happy to say after 3 weeks Jeter is almost back to 100%, has gained his energy back, gained 6lbs, and is back to himself. I brought my dog in after another vet in town sent me home with prednezone to "see what happens". My dog required an mri and verified she needed surgery for a ruptured disk in her spine. All the people at this clinic were very responsive and caring, and gave me their personal cell phone numbers for communication. This was a very serious condition and I feel that my dog received constant care. Dr Sullivan performed the surgery and was in constant communication with me which was very reassuring. Dr. Ladd provided much of the post op care and has also been performing accupuncture which has greatly helped my dog's recovery process. The vet tech's have all been very helpful and in fact loving towards my dog. It has been an arduous process that has been made easier through the personal attention we have received. read more

For over a year I was really worried about a bad infection my greyhound had on her paws that started on one toe and kept spreading to other toes and paws. I took her to Maplewood Animal Hospital but they never seemed too worried about it despite being open pussing swollen wounds. They had me giving her daily epson salt foot baths which wasn't doing anything. I wasted over a year of my ex-racing greyhound's life with this infection. She was unable to run and enjoy life. I had both veterinarians there look at her hoping one would come up with something. Nope. I eventually took her to Bellingham Veterinary and he gave me some pills (just an anti-biotic) and in a week it was cleared up. He had a few different plans of attack to help clear it up if the anti-biotic didn't work. Even did an small biopsy on it. None of this was ever considered by Maplewood. They just didn't seem to care or maybe they are just not very knowledgeable. Thanks to Bellingham Veterinary my dog is back to her old self! read more
